@ujusgotownd Find a trade school in your area. Here in NYC we have aviation highschool but there is a college here where you can get your A&P and a degree at the same time. After you get your A&P trying getting a job outside the aviation field. I worked on forklifts for 2 years before getting into aviation. I learned more fixing forklift then i did airplanes.
I love aircraft engines because I do really care for fixing big and though works from turbo prop to turbojet engines haha it really took me years to master each aircraft engine especially from the pratt and whittney canada engine company I love to work for now on 12 stage turbine engine which cost it to repair and replace for 700 grand pals.
Im doing this in highschool. Right now we are learning how to service landing gear strutts. In my school we have a fifth year program where you can get both A and P licenses in your highschool years.
consider yourself lucky. 4 years in the AF, and I'm just now getting the requirements for A&P. Jobs don't make you millions, but it's not a bad gig for a career, or even just a fall back if things go south in this economy.
ummm u don't get ur certificate after months of working. U get it after you take the knowledge test, practical test and oral test ofcorse after at least 1900 hours of classes.
Nice to see what they do as a mechanic because this might be a good job, If I can lift 2 golf bags, a big baskets of range ball, I can lift up to 25lb of parts for the engine.
