im thinking of getting an 09 model off a gugy selling it for 1000. might go for it, a honda jazz, or piaggio typhoon if mine is toast... anyone care to help me out? leaning towards the honda (favourite company), but im not really sure yet...
I got mine for $2000. I'm in 1500 miles. And you should think about modifying the carburator(makes it have a top speed of 45mph instead of 35mph). Gotta love the zuma
I have a 50cc Zuma I bought it used with 900 miles on it. They are much peppier than other 50cc bikes. I've really enjoyed it. It is very reliable and I'd recommend a new or used Zuma over any other 50cc bike for the money.
@cerj1010 not really...Zuma's are fun....but...u can go on a flat surface and wind hits u..u lose like 10mph...lame..its fun but i wish i've gottena big rockus...
@themomo6710 well i have a crappy air cooled 4 stroke that broke so now im getting a new 2011 zuma and yes it is air cooled but... it is a two stroke in it so it will have more power/speed i guess it depends what your body size is. im a football player i have ridden bolth the vino and zuma, vino is alot smaller and a little slower, the zuma is peppyer and is faster (with some adjustments) so its all on personal taste.
@themomo6710 I just saw another queation you had it is very unlikely to over heat unless you run it for 10 hours straight (impossibe due to gas tank size) but no unless there is a problem, it will not over heat. but yes i am reccomending the zuma due to expereance i have ridden the Vino, Metorpolotin, MotoFinos, kymco, and my crappy brand eurospeed and if you ever see Eurospeed on a moped go up to it pop the tires, tip it over and beat it to shit. if you dont you will be sorry :)
@funnybone16 Go for Yamaha they make some good stuff, you could have a 4 stroke from China, was it air cooled? I don't belive the Vino would let you down. Are you getting the Zuma in the end?
@themomo6710 well i ended up with a different moped it got a Peirspeed r50x ALOT better then a zuma i love it i put 24 miles on it and i just brought it home. you should look into those.
I toyed with getting this but the dealer is a little farther than the Aprilia dealer so I bought the Aprilia 4T 50 cc. which I love. One thing about 2 stroke to remember is they smoke a little and the oil you add is expensive so if you add the price of 2-stroke oil to the cost of gas when figuring mileage, it costs about the same as the cost of the 4 stroke to run even if the mpg is slightly higher for the 2-stroke. My Aprilia Sportcity 50 4T gets 94 mpg. $1750 out the door (new 2009).
The web site says that these things have enough room for two people on the seat, But do you know if it is good for the engine or will the engine wear out faster with that much more weight.
2strokes will also be snaper then a 4stroke, unless you don't have the 2stroke tunned right! 2strokes are easier to maintain if you keep puttingoil in the tank it should run forever! 4 last just as long as youput reshoil in every 500mi for 4stroke scooters they ten to have a little more toque and 2strokes arelighter and make more power! over all i would take a 2 stroke over a 4 becouse you don'thave to worrier about valve lasesand all the other works. i like your scoot! i ride a zuma too 05(:
@bates5638 The headlight isnt out, its just how zumas are. When you turn your brights on the other one comes on.. Pretty dumb but you can rewire it to have em both in use.
i had a 2005 bws and i never got it insured or registered to my name. i boujght it for 1500$ and it was a fun bike it's amazing i ran from the cops on the bike. i loved it but then i crashed a few times and i sold it. be carful on grass or dirt...very touchy in those areas...oh and taking it off roading...isn't the best ideal lol. thinking about buying a new one.
It's 123mpg estimate, but from what I have read, it only gets 80-90. The Honda scooters seem to get as good, or better than the estimate, but this one just looks so awesome.
Someone, please correct me if I am wrong. I would love to see some actual mpg data too.
Dude hipjump............ wen i light is on..... on a moped or a motrcycle ........ that means they have low beam or high beam and wen there one lite on they have low beam on . wen there 2 one they have on high beam
And I forgot... YOUR SCOOTER IS AWESOME.... I have a 2004 BWS (blue) and im realy happy whit it, I prefer BWS and Zuma, I not realy like the Ruckus look... Anyway, nice video!
I have an 2 elites and a ruckus. I love the Ruckus but unfortunately its my dads. Im thinking about getting and older 1999 zuma. Their cheap and look really cool.
i was initially set on getting the honda ruckus like you, but it's more expensive and offers less than the zuma (only plus was the cool design). i'm pretty pumped for my zuma, i was getting sick of public transport
My 09 tops out at about 40mph. You can do a quick mod to the scooter when you get it to make it push about 45mph, stock. It's a great whip. You don't need a license or anything, I'm in VA though. Gas efficient like fuck. Like dude said, roughly 130mpg, holds about 1.3 gallons. Great vehicle to get you from point A to point B. Every ride is like an adventure.
Great video, Drew! I have owned many a motorcycle in my time, and I can say the scoots pretty much outclass them all! Really enjoyed the vid... you should do more! 5 star!
Thanks drewdown2000. I too was torn between the Ruckus and the Zuma. I ended up buying a bike like yours, same color. I found one second hand. It was a 2006, had 1650 kms on it, paid $1600 plus tax. I just love this thing. I bought it October 1st and have already added another 1200 kms to the odometer. I added a Givi storage trunk ($100). I am amazed at all the groceries I can stuff into this bike. Much more practical than the Ruckus. I can take my kids on it too. Thanks again.
you need a motorcycle license in California to operate this. However, you only need an M2 license. The M1 license allows a rider to ride any size motorcycle. The M2 is for 125cc or less..at least I think it's 125cc's..might be 149. Go to the DMV's website and you can read about what's required.
I wish I had a little more info to think . If I had, I would have gotten a Zuma. Mostly for the storage. I got to my Honda dealer. Saw the Ruckus, and, it's like I was kicked in the head. Honestly it looked like a guys scooter. So does the Zuma, but, I didn't even know about the damm thing. Now, i'm hearing things like, the zuma doesn't have a lot of leg space. You can't trick it out like a ruckus. Etc. I'm happy with my Scoot, And if I wanted more power, I would buy a higher cc model Ride safe
Too slow for regular road use, speed limit is 45 around here, my guess is that would be good for someone living and working on a college campus in a stop-and-go city.
so do you have to refill the oil often? or is it like a 4-stroke engine where you have to change the oil once in a while until it gets dirty.. im not sure if i should buy the yamaha C3, the Yamaha Zuma, or the Honda Ruckus..
Well I have yamaha C3 and I love it. After I broke my C3 in and put in a new tansmission belt and spark plug it now goes 45 and maybe over burying the speedometer. The C3 will last longer with it's FUEL INJECTED water cooled 4 cycle engine! just gas it up and go, no 2 cycle oil to mess with. I put synthetic oil in mine and it runs smoooooth.
The yamaha C3 has a better more advanced engine with three valves and a ceramic composite coating on the cylinder wall for WAY less friction. Now the C3 looks retro but don't let it fool you it is the most technologically advanced 50cc out there! The C3 has the same tech as the new 2009 Zuma 125cc! Actually better than that cause the C3 has water cooling which makes it last MUCH longer like a motorcycle engine.
I'm looking at buying a Yamaha C3 or Zuma. Both have their appeals, but which bike will I enjoy more if I'm the type of person who wants something that has a bit of performance and fun in it? I like a quick and agile.
I've never ridden a C3 and I don't know much about it, so I couldn't say. If you're looking for "quick" though, you're going to have to spend $3000+ on a 125cc scooter. Agile the Zuma is, but quick no.
There's a little rubber restrictor in the air filter box intake that's easy to remove as well. I run 45 psi in my tires. The increased tire pressure reduces rolling resistance a lot. My '08 cruises at 38-40 mph with just these mods. Every mile gets better as they break in, too.
It's one of the best scooters you're going to find new in the $2,000 range. Tops out stock at 37-38mph, though with no wind and a totally flat road I've managed to hit 40.
How tall are you? I've found Zuma sort of uncomfortable. When turning my knees were always in the way. Hoping Zuma 125 cc will be more "knee friendly" and I'm only 5'10"
Hi from England, Thanks for posting the video, it looks a great starting bike. I've been looking at getting a Yamaha 125cc scooter I have to decide between the Yamaha Cygnus or the Vity now.
Hello, i was interested in buying a scooter like this one (or similar 49 cc) but i wanted to register it here in NJ. Doest it classify as a motorcycle or as a moped?
Not sure about NJ, but here in CA it classifies as a "motorized scooter", not a motorcycle. Check with your DMV. A lot of states don't even require you to register scooters under 50cc, though of course here in California they want you to register everything they can (mostly so they can take your money).
Dealers try to get you with the extra fees and such. But for example if they did let it go for $2199, they're profit is only a few hundred dollars to be honest.
I was lucky enough to get a smokin' deal of $2149 out-the-door.
Average prices though, definitely shoot for around $2300-$2500
im thinking of getting an 09 model off a gugy selling it for 1000. might go for it, a honda jazz, or piaggio typhoon if mine is toast... anyone care to help me out? leaning towards the honda (favourite company), but im not really sure yet...

Thanks again.

its looks exactly like the yamaha BWS

You must live in Canada. Me too. I bought a second hand BWS, black with red flames, last month. Best $1600 I've ever spent.

do you need a motorcycle licence in California for one of these.
BFTCaL 3 years ago
you need a motorcycle license in California to operate this.

Etc. I'm happy with my Scoot, And if I wanted more power, I would buy a higher cc model Ride safe

hey is this just a 50 cc zuma? or the 125
baylorz28 3 years ago
This is the 50cc.

What dealership did you get this from? Is it in LA?
josephrobertson 3 years ago
OTD Cyclesports in Marina Del Rey. Cheapest price in the LA area, at least when I bought mine.
drewdown2000 3 years ago
Too slow for regular road use, speed limit is 45 around here, my guess is that would be good for someone living and working on a college campus in a stop-and-go city.

You should make more videos of your Zuma.

Are the 2009 50cc Zumas available yet?

Nice video. Informative. Thank you

Do you have to mix oil and gas for this baby to run? i understand it is a 2-stroke engine..?
icecoldarctic122 3 years ago
No.
It's a 2 stroke, but it has a separate oil tank for direct oil injection.
scdevon 3 years ago 2
so do you have to refill the oil often? or is it like a 4-stroke engine where you have to change the oil once in a while until it gets dirty.. im not sure if i should buy the yamaha C3, the Yamaha Zuma, or the Honda Ruckus..
icecoldarctic122 3 years ago
Well I have yamaha C3 and I love it. After I broke my C3 in and put in a new tansmission belt and spark plug it now goes 45 and maybe over burying the speedometer. The C3 will last longer with it's FUEL INJECTED water cooled 4 cycle engine! just gas it up and go, no 2 cycle oil to mess with. I put synthetic oil in mine and it runs smoooooth.
skulldrill 3 years ago
The yamaha C3 has a better more advanced engine with three valves and a ceramic composite coating on the cylinder wall for WAY less friction. Now the C3 looks retro but don't let it fool you it is the most technologically advanced 50cc out there! The C3 has the same tech as the new 2009 Zuma 125cc! Actually better than that cause the C3 has water cooling which makes it last MUCH longer like a motorcycle engine.
skulldrill 3 years ago
it looks good except for the 2 lights in the front they're kinda weird

I'm looking at buying a Yamaha C3 or Zuma. Both have their appeals, but which bike will I enjoy more if I'm the type of person who wants something that has a bit of performance and fun in it? I like a quick and agile.
JetHawk 3 years ago
I've never ridden a C3 and I don't know much about it, so I couldn't say. If you're looking for "quick" though, you're going to have to spend $3000+ on a 125cc scooter. Agile the Zuma is, but quick no.
drewdown2000 3 years ago
how fast dose it go?
Austin2222228 3 years ago
depends on wind conditions, road degree.... on a strait road no wind, u hit around 36-40MPH 65-70 KM
lskater1116 3 years ago
Do the throttle mod. It's worth it.
There's a little rubber restrictor in the air filter box intake that's easy to remove as well. I run 45 psi in my tires. The increased tire pressure reduces rolling resistance a lot. My '08 cruises at 38-40 mph with just these mods. Every mile gets better as they break in, too.
scdevon 3 years ago
Yeah, I really want to get the throttle mod done, though my mechanical skills are pretty bad. You did it yourself?
drewdown2000 3 years ago
Easy with a dremel tool.
Careful where the metal chips go.
Google it. Tons of pictures out there.
I'd suggest bumping up the tire pressure, too.
Good luck.
Nice bike!

Do you think the zuma is worth the price? How fast does it go top speed stock?
vizzyspeed 3 years ago
It's one of the best scooters you're going to find new in the $2,000 range. Tops out stock at 37-38mph, though with no wind and a totally flat road I've managed to hit 40.
drewdown2000 3 years ago
Also try derestricting the 50ccs, they can hit 50mph+.
lusulpher 3 years ago
How tall are you? I've found Zuma sort of uncomfortable. When turning my knees were always in the way. Hoping Zuma 125 cc will be more "knee friendly" and I'm only 5'10"
mjacyna 3 years ago
I'm 6'0 and don't have any comfort issues, be it with my knees or anything.
drewdown2000 3 years ago
Hi from England, Thanks for posting the video, it looks a great starting bike. I've been looking at getting a Yamaha 125cc scooter I have to decide between the Yamaha Cygnus or the Vity now.
trancefiguration 3 years ago
You might want to check out the Zuma 125cc if they sell it in your area.

Hello, i was interested in buying a scooter like this one (or similar 49 cc) but i wanted to register it here in NJ. Doest it classify as a motorcycle or as a moped?
mercedes300best 3 years ago
Not sure about NJ, but here in CA it classifies as a "motorized scooter", not a motorcycle. Check with your DMV. A lot of states don't even require you to register scooters under 50cc, though of course here in California they want you to register everything they can (mostly so they can take your money).
drewdown2000 3 years ago
dude how much did your yamaha zuma cost?
would be very helpfull :0)
adiCta 3 years ago
MSRP is $2199
Dealers try to get you with the extra fees and such. But for example if they did let it go for $2199, they're profit is only a few hundred dollars to be honest.
I was lucky enough to get a smokin' deal of $2149 out-the-door.
Average prices though, definitely shoot for around $2300-$2500
onedorki3boi 3 years ago
dude, whats the name of ur helmet.. looks nice.
rick79e 3 years ago
How much do pay for it? I'm looking to buy one and the dealer said $2980 including taxe ect. I just want to make sure I'm getting the right price.
-Thanks
