I just want to see something different. The Yankees and the Dodgers have ALWAYS dominated Major League baseball since the 20's. I just want to see the Mets, maybe even the Indians win the World Series for once. If all of us Mets fans are lucky, maybe the Yankees and the Dodgers will lose their edge and be no good anymore. That would be sweet! The Yankees have won enough World Championships.
the Mets are horrible because it starts at the top, Minaya should not be a general manager. He just traded a good relief pitcher for an outfileder who literally only had one good season 3 years ago. sing it with me folks...

Actually Colin is off by a year. The Mets beat the Diamondbacks in 1999 Wild Card round. Sadly however, the Mets really did use that "Who Let The Dogs Out" song after the beat the Giants in the 2000 Wild Card, and again after they beat the Cards in the NLCS...whatever...Cowherd is still a classless jerk!
im a die hard mets fan but the wilpons need to go and take alot of people with em. and the point of the mets song meet the mets, which is pretty catchy, is show that met games r a good time with the whole family and in general. This comment has received too many negative votesshow
This guy is an idiot, if the mets wanted to be the yankees then we'd lose all the fun in the game. The mets are the blue color new york team, the yankees are the high class/rich and the mets are the working man. This guy is truly an idiot. The wild card was even around in 1987. Who cares about "who let the dogs out" THIS retard forgets the METS PLAYED THE SONG "NEW YORK" FIRST. In 1986 wen they won it all it played. The Yankees copied us.
The Mets are blue collared to New York standards. Not to everyone else in the MLB outside of the Yankees, BoSox, and Cubs. And I don't think Colin cares about the fact that the Mets might have played "New York, New York" before the Yankees did. It's the fact that they actually did play a Baja Men song at some point in that stadium. And you brought up that they won it in 1986. That proves Colin's point, because this is a solid franchise that should compete every year. Baja Men? Seriously.
i'm not a mets fan but i think now that they finally moved out of that piece of crap stadium they should get rid of all the black in their uniforms, even the drop shadow. Wear the pinstripes with the blue and orange and the blue hats, have some tradition and a sense of history
The Mets won the offseason World Series in 2006 and 2008, but haven't won a real one in 22 years, and have only two for their franchise history (same total as the Marlins despite 31 more years of existance). Maybe Cowherd should've thought twice before saying that they were elite.
not if they keep falling 3-1 3-0 every alcs against better teams the rays are better than the red sux deal with it red sux are obsolete their third baseman, dh, right fielder, catcher, and half their pitching staff are on aarp! the rays have younger hungrier players
no dummy try the yankees and before you say well the 2004 red sox came back yes that is true but they will never build a dynasty because they do not have the character of a champion the only reason they have done so well these last few years is the fault in the yankee ownership and gm so before you diss my team diss your own for having no heart in the alcs
The jingle that Colin is talking about is the "Meet the Mets" song that was re-recorded by some broad in the 80's which sucks. The 1960's version is the only version they should use. Regarding the uniforms, how many pink and red and yellow yankee hats have we seen? many.
the yankees don't wear them on the field. those are just fans wearing souvenir items for hip hop people and fashionistas trying to wear a yankee hat that matches their outfit. the mets wear all those unis for games.
ok well you know hip hop culture buys caps might as well take advantage of it half those guys do not even know who the pittsburgh pirates or the cincinnati reds are they just buy the hats because they like them its better for baseball because those teams suck ass
why i listened to this again, i will never know. but I'd just like to point out that the yankees put out the same promotions the mets, and every other mlb team does. so funny, yes, but the more I listen to it the more it just sounds like a yankee fan ranting.
ps i love the log flume, and I would be at shea everyday if they had one right next to my apple.
I'm a lifelong Mets fan, but this was pretty funny. I agree in part, and in fact I've been griping about some of the same things for years.
Anybody remember that goofy 1999 MLB promotion where teams were supposed to wear futuristic uniforms for a game? The Yankees basically said "screw this", and wore their pinstripes. The Mets became the "Mercury Mets", and looked absolutely ridiculous.
the yankees broadcasters suck!!!! Kay, Singleton, the other washed up players, sterling and Waldman,, holy crap, i cant listen to them,, sterling cant paint a picture of a game,, and Waldman,, OH MY GOODNESS GRACIOUS<< ROGER CLEMENS IS IN GEORGES BOX AND HE IS BACK,,, give me a break
I agree in part, but I think that a few more would be alright- the many uniforms of the Mets is as much a part of our tradition as strong pitchers and catchers, the apple,
Mr. Met, and Miracles. The regular blue and orage home combo should be worn more, with blue hats. Grey with blue or black hats should always be the away uniform. I like the black, it reminds of that 2000 team and the Subway Series, so keep that just for Yankees games.
GO METS....YANKEES SUCK...yanks have only won 6 since the Mets developed as a franchise, and 4 of them was tainted through the steroid era...YANKEES SUCK!
This is by far one of the hilarious and funniest rants I've ever heard from Colin Cowherd. Props to Colin for this! It makes me laugh out loud, cause most of it is true.
And this coming from just a baseball fan who isn't a Mets fan!
The Yanks and the mets both suck. They both have huge payrolls and what have they done with them lately??? NOTHING, the yanks sucked at the beginning of the year and then blamed a playoff loss on bugs!! And the mets collapsed and didn't even make the playoffs!!
i'm a met fan and admit... there ARE some decent/funny points made here. Let's get rid of the apple. Let's not do that Professor Reyes lame-o stuff. Let's behave a little more like champions. I'm not saying be like the pompous Yankees, but c'mon "sweet caroline" in the 7th inning? why???
man..MR.MET is going to go to the mascot hall of fame......the home run apple is a MET tradtion and for a self confessed man who is "fond of the yankees" or yankee fondler,to rip us for our tradition is like for met fans to say the roll call is stupid,or like a MET fan saying the braves chop is stupid,in reality it is,can anyone imagine anything more terrifying than a bunch of inbred nascar fans screaming at you like zombies with a rythmm and moving their hands like a traffic cop?,because i cant
Class like Sterling, Suzyn Waldman, Clemens, Pettitte, Giambi, zero titles this millennium. How regal. Cowherd pick a combover. Totally Da-monic. An A-Bomb. The Melk-Man delivers. That doesn't scream 9 year old.
LOL the Mets team now has a laughingstock team to go with their "Busch league" pregame music! Biggest choke job in the history of baseball next to the Bo Sox-yanks series in '04 both NY teams suck!
i'm a met fan, but this commentary is spot-on (regardless of who has a beeter record, or who makes the playoffs, or who they beat in the post season in 2000). Apple and mascot are both beyond cheesy. Who Let the Dogs Out?!? LA Woman?!? Its rapidly becoming "the boy(dega)s of summer". Hopefully they will drop that nonsense with the new stadium
Don't know if it's been said yet (I don't feel like reading all 56 comments), but the Mets beat the Giants in 2000, not 1999, ya jerkoff. "True story."
The Mets put Mettle the Mule to sleep almost 30 years ago. However, I am impressed by Cowherd's vast carny knowledge: donkey basketball, elephant ears, etc. Those 26 months in Clown School were definitely not wasted.
Maybe he doesnt understand we are not trying to become the Yankees. We like our tacky goofy shit. It's endearing. Fuck off and enjoy your 200 Million dollar Joke of a team.
They even stole their hokey-ass mascot, Mr. Met. Cincinnati has been using a nearly identical baseball-man called Mr. Red as a logo since the 1950s, well before the Mets were around. Everything about the Mets is contrived and unoriginal. No tradition, no class, always #2 in the hearts and minds of New Yorkers.
Your a total moron. Now granted the Mets are the underdog in their own city, but that's what makes them so much funner to root for. Their a team unlike the the conglomorate NY Chokees, who with a 2 million dollar payroll cant even be in first place or even win a W.S as they're supposed to every year right?
Stop painting yourselves out to be the poor underdogs who are "funner" to root for. The Mets have the highest payroll in the NL and the 3rd highest in baseball. You're just as guilty of buying wins as we are. That's the beauty of playing in the biggest market in the country. Nice command of the English language, by the way.
I also have news for you. You talk about how the Yankees have the hearts and minds of NY's more. Well, why was it that from 1964-1975 the Mets seemingly outdrew the Yankees. We're talking about a lot of bad Mets teams here before 69 while the Yanks were winning pennants. Also, the Mets outdrew the Chokees from 84-92...the Mets OWNED the NY baseball attendance record and we broke it several times until the Yanks did it in 99.
Of course the Mets outdrew the Yankees in the 1960s. They had the homeless fan base of TWO NL franchises to accomodate. The Mets had a World Series and two pennants from '69-'73, so obviously they drew, and they had EXCELLENT franchises from '84-'90. Good teams always draw. And if the Yankees are such choke-artists, they're choke-artists people want to see. Come talk to me when the Mets draw 4 million.
Funny how the Mets were the first team to ever draw 3 million fans into a crap ballpark and the all mighty Yankees couldn't accomplish that until after the 98 season. From 85-86, we drew about 2.8 million fans to Shea. The 95-96 Yanks we're below the 2.5 million mark at the time..
There you go! You just admitted it, they had excellent teams during that decade; while you guys rallied around a perennial loser like Don Mattingly. So that just proves my point...the Mets ARE NOT always second rate. Have you wondred that the only reason they have begun to draw 4 million fans into that overpriced dump is because of A-Rod?
I never said the Mets didn't have teams that played well. That's my point - even when you have a better team than us, you're still the second bananas in this town. People have strong feelings about the Yankees one way or the other. People love them or people despise them. Either way, they're iconic. The Mets are always an afterthought in the lexicon of New York baseball. You live to hate the Yankees like jaded, petulant little brother. Face it, you're the also-rans of this town.
I agree with you on the love and hate aspect. Only the Yankees can generate those sort of emotions with the fans. No other team can't...whether it's the Mets, Red Sox, Cubs, Dodgers, etc. They don't come close.
Did you really forget the 1980s? Do you really think that the Mets from '86 really were "second bananas" in the city? Did anyone give a rat's ass about the Yankees in 1969 or 1973?
I know plenty of dyed in the wool Yankee fans who looked at the Mets in the 80s like some Met fans have looked at the Yankees in recent years. There's a reason why George Steinbrenner added guys like Cone, Strawberry, and Gooden in the 90s- the 80s Mets teams were the only teams to steal his thunder in New York.
you are right. in those two years more band wagon hoppers hopped on the mets band wagon. in those two years. Gotta admit though, orange and blue uniforms???!!
Actually, for the forst 30 years of the Mets' existence, the Mets outdrew the Yankees in attendance 18 times. They were the first team in NY to draw 3 million fans. Not even the 1996 or 1998 Yankees did that.
Their image, from their team colors to their logos, is all ripped off from the Dodgers and Giants. They're only purpose was to fill the void in the National League as a watered-down, bastard offspring of those two franchises that left for California.
It's ok if your new to the game of baseball and you hopped on the Chokees bandwagon since the late 90's and your not familiar with alot of these things. The Mets world series victories of 69 and 86 caused alot of excitement around here...don't really remember a Yankees team accomplishing that, other then the 96 team and it ain't even close to the other 2. Usually when the Yanks win...ppl give out a huge YAWNNNN
Well, you're right to an extent. A franchise of high caliber is expected to win. When the Yankees win a division title it's little cause for celebration because it's the status quo. As a Met fan you have lowered expectations. With pennants coming as infrequently as Haley's comet, I guess I'd be pretty psyched when my crap team had an iota of success once every twenty years, too.
I never knew you had to type in perfect english when engaging in an online conversation or discussion. No one gave a rats ass about the Yanks until after 98. When they won that world series in 96, they couldn't even draw 3 million the following season. The 87-88 Mets accomplished that feat before your teams ever did.
Face it, no one gives a shit about the Yanks unless their winning. When was the last time a last place Yankee team drew over 2 million fans? I suppose never...because the poser fanbase either goes into hibernation or begins to claim their lifelong Met fans.
I do have to agree with you on the frontrunners. We did get a lot of poser assholes flock to the stadium after the Yankees got hot. But now that the Mets are the flavor of the moment a lot of them have migrated to Shea and blostered your attendance figures, so it's your turn to deal with those morons. I'm a die-hard Yankees fan; I have more respect for a dyed-in-the-wool Mets fan than those asshole bandwagon jumpers.
It was actually fun engaging in a debate with a Yankee fan that actually knows what he is talking about. The ones I usually talk to are functioning retards that don't know anything about baseball. I respect Yankee fans who hate the Mets more then the ones who say they root for NY teams no matter what. If your a fan of one of them, you gotta hate the other one.
Thank you, thank you, thank you Colin Cowherd. The Yankees are a New York institution. A timeless franchise steeped in pride and tradition. The Mets are second-bananas and always will be. Even when they have a better record, their fans always have an inferioriry complex and they're always searching for a new image.
And I Think a better example of the Mets and Yankees image would be found in their theme songs:
Yankees: New York, New York- Upperclass Broadway image
Mets: Meet the Mets- Down home Image
Mr. Met is a but kiddy, but hey, people go to ballgames to be happy- some people like to act like kids there.
What's wrong with the apple, by the way? The many uniforms- that's a matter of taste, some teams just like a lot of uniforms. But really- who finds shame in the apple?
OK, I agree with the fact that there should not be Wild Card banners, but I think he's missing the image completely. The Mets convey the image that they are scrappers and underdogs- much the same way the old Dodgers and Giants were to the Yankees. The Yankees convey the image that they are better than everyone, royalty- how UN-American is that? Royalty? Was America founded on royalty, by royalty? NO! It was th little guy, the scrappy underdog
As an aside, I can't believe Colin, a 'journalist' didn't check his facts about the song he heard in the Mets pregame. It's the 80's remake of the 1960's Meet the Mets. It opens and closes the Pregame show hosted by the classiest guy in the baseball press, Ed Coleman. The show itself is well produced and often features interviews with players and coaches of the team the Mets are facing that night.
oh please , go anywhere and you see a bunch of thugs with yankee hats on sideways-and I guarantee you they have never even watched a baseball game...at least mets and red sox fans are loyal no matter who is in the playoffs...remember the 80's...yankee stadium was empty...
because the yankees represent the best. the yankees are cool.
so are YANKEES fans. yankees fans wont just leave because the team isnt very good. plus in the 80's people rooted for the yankees they just didnt want to pay to go see them play.
umm...ok I guess thats really cool...baseball hats sideways...thugs..yes thats all so cool...and let me get this straight, you think all these so called die hard yankee fans were rooting for the yankees, but just didnt want to see them play...yes I guess thats real loyalty...as I said fair weathered fans...
The Mets are better than that? Could've fooled me...

The jingle that Colin is talking about is the "Meet the Mets" song that was re-recorded by some broad in the 80's which sucks. The 1960's version is the only version they should use. Regarding the uniforms, how many pink and red and yellow yankee hats have we seen? many.
eme456 3 years ago
the yankees don't wear them on the field. those are just fans wearing souvenir items for hip hop people and fashionistas trying to wear a yankee hat that matches their outfit. the mets wear all those unis for games.
halfhoosierhein 3 years ago
ok well you know hip hop culture buys caps might as well take advantage of it half those guys do not even know who the pittsburgh pirates or the cincinnati reds are they just buy the hats because they like them its better for baseball because those teams suck ass

why i listened to this again, i will never know. but I'd just like to point out that the yankees put out the same promotions the mets, and every other mlb team does. so funny, yes, but the more I listen to it the more it just sounds like a yankee fan ranting.
ps i love the log flume, and I would be at shea everyday if they had one right next to my apple.

The Mets became the "Mercury Mets", and looked absolutely ridiculous.
robleder1 3 years ago
That's because the Yankees will be wearing those pinstripes long into the future also.
And yes, this was a riot.

3 uniforms.
The 1986 unis were better, though.

YoDogWhatsGood 4 years ago
They even stole their hokey-ass mascot, Mr. Met. Cincinnati has been using a nearly identical baseball-man called Mr. Red as a logo since the 1950s, well before the Mets were around. Everything about the Mets is contrived and unoriginal. No tradition, no class, always #2 in the hearts and minds of New Yorkers.
NyBob85 4 years ago
Your a total moron. Now granted the Mets are the underdog in their own city, but that's what makes them so much funner to root for. Their a team unlike the the conglomorate NY Chokees, who with a 2 million dollar payroll cant even be in first place or even win a W.S as they're supposed to every year right?
nocomment87 4 years ago
Stop painting yourselves out to be the poor underdogs who are "funner" to root for. The Mets have the highest payroll in the NL and the 3rd highest in baseball. You're just as guilty of buying wins as we are. That's the beauty of playing in the biggest market in the country. Nice command of the English language, by the way.
NyBob85 4 years ago
Correction 200 million dollar payroll
I also have news for you. You talk about how the Yankees have the hearts and minds of NY's more. Well, why was it that from 1964-1975 the Mets seemingly outdrew the Yankees. We're talking about a lot of bad Mets teams here before 69 while the Yanks were winning pennants. Also, the Mets outdrew the Chokees from 84-92...the Mets OWNED the NY baseball attendance record and we broke it several times until the Yanks did it in 99.
nocomment87 4 years ago
Of course the Mets outdrew the Yankees in the 1960s. They had the homeless fan base of TWO NL franchises to accomodate. The Mets had a World Series and two pennants from '69-'73, so obviously they drew, and they had EXCELLENT franchises from '84-'90. Good teams always draw. And if the Yankees are such choke-artists, they're choke-artists people want to see. Come talk to me when the Mets draw 4 million.
NyBob85 4 years ago
Funny how the Mets were the first team to ever draw 3 million fans into a crap ballpark and the all mighty Yankees couldn't accomplish that until after the 98 season. From 85-86, we drew about 2.8 million fans to Shea. The 95-96 Yanks we're below the 2.5 million mark at the time..
nocomment87 4 years ago
There you go! You just admitted it, they had excellent teams during that decade; while you guys rallied around a perennial loser like Don Mattingly. So that just proves my point...the Mets ARE NOT always second rate. Have you wondred that the only reason they have begun to draw 4 million fans into that overpriced dump is because of A-Rod?
nocomment87 4 years ago
I never said the Mets didn't have teams that played well. That's my point - even when you have a better team than us, you're still the second bananas in this town. People have strong feelings about the Yankees one way or the other. People love them or people despise them. Either way, they're iconic. The Mets are always an afterthought in the lexicon of New York baseball. You live to hate the Yankees like jaded, petulant little brother. Face it, you're the also-rans of this town.
NyBob85 4 years ago
I agree with you on the love and hate aspect. Only the Yankees can generate those sort of emotions with the fans. No other team can't...whether it's the Mets, Red Sox, Cubs, Dodgers, etc. They don't come close.
nocomment87 4 years ago
Did you really forget the 1980s? Do you really think that the Mets from '86 really were "second bananas" in the city? Did anyone give a rat's ass about the Yankees in 1969 or 1973?
I know plenty of dyed in the wool Yankee fans who looked at the Mets in the 80s like some Met fans have looked at the Yankees in recent years. There's a reason why George Steinbrenner added guys like Cone, Strawberry, and Gooden in the 90s- the 80s Mets teams were the only teams to steal his thunder in New York.
arnyjk 4 years ago
you are right. in those two years more band wagon hoppers hopped on the mets band wagon. in those two years. Gotta admit though, orange and blue uniforms???!!
joelsindc 4 years ago
Actually, for the forst 30 years of the Mets' existence, the Mets outdrew the Yankees in attendance 18 times. They were the first team in NY to draw 3 million fans. Not even the 1996 or 1998 Yankees did that.
arnyjk 4 years ago
orange and blue, they represent the dodger blue, and the New York Giants Orange. They are the City's former national league colors
eme456 4 years ago
Their image, from their team colors to their logos, is all ripped off from the Dodgers and Giants. They're only purpose was to fill the void in the National League as a watered-down, bastard offspring of those two franchises that left for California.
NyBob85 4 years ago
It's ok if your new to the game of baseball and you hopped on the Chokees bandwagon since the late 90's and your not familiar with alot of these things. The Mets world series victories of 69 and 86 caused alot of excitement around here...don't really remember a Yankees team accomplishing that, other then the 96 team and it ain't even close to the other 2. Usually when the Yanks win...ppl give out a huge YAWNNNN
nocomment87 4 years ago
Well, you're right to an extent. A franchise of high caliber is expected to win. When the Yankees win a division title it's little cause for celebration because it's the status quo. As a Met fan you have lowered expectations. With pennants coming as infrequently as Haley's comet, I guess I'd be pretty psyched when my crap team had an iota of success once every twenty years, too.
NyBob85 4 years ago
I never knew you had to type in perfect english when engaging in an online conversation or discussion. No one gave a rats ass about the Yanks until after 98. When they won that world series in 96, they couldn't even draw 3 million the following season. The 87-88 Mets accomplished that feat before your teams ever did.
nocomment87 4 years ago
Face it, no one gives a shit about the Yanks unless their winning. When was the last time a last place Yankee team drew over 2 million fans? I suppose never...because the poser fanbase either goes into hibernation or begins to claim their lifelong Met fans.
nocomment87 4 years ago
I do have to agree with you on the frontrunners. We did get a lot of poser assholes flock to the stadium after the Yankees got hot. But now that the Mets are the flavor of the moment a lot of them have migrated to Shea and blostered your attendance figures, so it's your turn to deal with those morons. I'm a die-hard Yankees fan; I have more respect for a dyed-in-the-wool Mets fan than those asshole bandwagon jumpers.
NyBob85 4 years ago
It was actually fun engaging in a debate with a Yankee fan that actually knows what he is talking about. The ones I usually talk to are functioning retards that don't know anything about baseball. I respect Yankee fans who hate the Mets more then the ones who say they root for NY teams no matter what. If your a fan of one of them, you gotta hate the other one.

Actually, numbnuts, the last time the Yanks finished in last place (1990) they drew over 2 million. Look it up.
NyBob85 4 years ago
Still not more than the 2003 Mets who drew 2.1 million to their 2.0. The 03 Mets were probably a worse team then the 90 Yankees. :-)
nocomment87 4 years ago
Thank you, thank you, thank you Colin Cowherd. The Yankees are a New York institution. A timeless franchise steeped in pride and tradition. The Mets are second-bananas and always will be. Even when they have a better record, their fans always have an inferioriry complex and they're always searching for a new image.
NyBob85 4 years ago
And I Think a better example of the Mets and Yankees image would be found in their theme songs:
Yankees: New York, New York- Upperclass Broadway image
Mets: Meet the Mets- Down home Image
Mr. Met is a but kiddy, but hey, people go to ballgames to be happy- some people like to act like kids there.
What's wrong with the apple, by the way? The many uniforms- that's a matter of taste, some teams just like a lot of uniforms. But really- who finds shame in the apple?
obiwanobiwan13 4 years ago
