Now that''s what I can a jingle...How good listening to radio was back then. I LOVED Capital in those days. What fantastic presenters and they all had real character. You felt that in some way the station belonged to you. There was a sense of community in London back then,
Capital radio 1973-87 the best radio station in the world. Great DJ's like Kenny Everett,Roger Scott,Dave Cash,Greg Edwards and Nicky Horne. The station was fun and unique.
The modern day Capital is just shit DJ's with no personality and crap music
@MrDoncos All Independent local radio is like that now. Piccadilly in Manchester and City in Liverpool, now broadcast more or less the same things in the same order. There's no local personality anymore. :-(
Anyone has the 'Best Disco in Town' Capital jingle from 1978?? The jingle used the track by the Ritchie Family, 'Best Disco in Town'. Capital used to host a 'Disco' at the Lyceum Ballroom once a month and played this to promote it.
In 1970 there was lying before the Dutch cost the ship KING DAVID (sept. 1970) with the stationname Capitol Radio. It was a pitty but with a gale in nov. 1970 it was done with the ship KING DAVID. The project was finished. They used this jingle...
I was a loyal Capital listener when I lived in London in 1977. Roger Scott was my particular favourite and I was very sad to learn that he had passed away. He was a terrific DJ. Lots of great DJs on Capital back then. Great memories - thanks for posting.
Not necessarily this tune but 'Afternoon Delight' always takes me back to summer afternoons in our suburban back yard listening to Roger Scott playing the sounds of the summer. Happy innocent days!
Capital Radio's first identity jingles were written by Roger Cook and Roger Greenaway, performed by Blue Mink and orchestrated by George Martin. Madeline Bell had also sung the original jingles for Radio Caroline, the offshore pirate station that first went on-air in 1964.
It was Roger Cook & Madeline Bell who done most of those early Jingles. I managed to record them all. Great Jingles "194 How Are You", "Capital Intune With London Yeh Yeh Yeh", "We All Wish You A Merry Christmas From 194" "Such A Good Way To Start Your Day" "Grab A Little Soft Rock % Country Blues", "Well This Is 194 How Are You", "Capital Sounds Go Round & Round London Town", "C.O.D. - C.O.D Cash On Delievery", "Grab A Little Piece Of Heaven Roger Scott 3 to 7 on Capital 194, John Holman
The "in tune with London yehyehyeh" jingle- I thought (when I was 10 yrs old) that it was done by Barry Manilow - because it sort of sounded like it was done in the same session as 'Mandy' (thinking about the proto-video of Barry in his wing collar at the keyboard)...

Just one point. Capital Radio's original medium wave frequency in October 1973 was 539. They moved to 194 a year or two later.
