I am a really old-scholl fan of Silverchair Grunge Times, but the "new age" only shows how much of a bad-ass musicians this guys are and how they have evolved! I honestly admire them! One of the greatest bands!!!!

While I think the early "Seattle" sound they had was far better, here they show a "Coldplay" kind of feel but not as *bleh* as Coldplay. Don't get me wrong...It's a very good album. But noone outside of Chair fans even know about it. It will never be credited by the masses to be the "most incredibly genius album".
You and handrix89 were barely born when some of the most incredible and honest music came out. Soundgarden, Mudhoney, Screaming Trees, Mother Love Bone, Alice In Chains, Pearl Jam etc...
These are the bands that Daniel stole most of his "genius" riffs from over the years.
If the aforementioned bands were to ever decide to collect royalties on all of those stolen riffs, Daniel and Co. would be flat broke.

If you knew a bit about Diorama you'd know that Daniel composed it's songs in piano and in guitar using open tunings in some songs. He also made the orchestral arrangements along with Van Dyke Parks.
Besides, what's the matter if he doesn't play technical styles or uses simple progressions? If you can't see beyond that in music... well, you really need to learn to listen.
This last year I've been thinking a lot about what I wanted to play with my friends... we used to play heavy metal and thrash, but that was almost 5 years ago... as one grows up, I guess you tend to calm down a little bit... I started playing grunge and alternative rock 2 years ago. I always listened to it but never found it "attractive" for me to play it. Well, here I am now. If you analyze any contemporary musician's career, they all tend to calm down as time goes by. It's just part of life :P
This is not about being close minded, ya dipshit. This is simply about not needing another pop band in this world. One Jonas Brothers is enough.

@ixlovexrain I have to admit I did too, I was a huge fan of neon ballroom, freak show & frogstomp, seriously I was obsessed & I didn't get this when it first came out, but I came around, but I still can't get used to the song "if you keep losing sleep"

Don't get me wrong...It's a very good album. But noone outside of Chair fans even know about it. It will never be credited by the masses to be the "most incredibly genius album".
You and handrix89 were barely born when some of the most incredible and honest music came out. Soundgarden, Mudhoney, Screaming Trees, Mother Love Bone, Alice In Chains, Pearl Jam etc...
These are the bands that Daniel stole most of his "genius" riffs from over the years.

If the aforementioned bands were to ever decide to collect royalties on all of those stolen riffs, Daniel and Co. would be flat broke.
They got lucky though... They were seen as kids who were merely immitating, and those bands from Seattle didn't care about money. They probably didn't even care to listen to yet another copycat band in the post grunge era.
So, keep stroking Daniel's ego, because you're the ONLY ones who are doing it.
Noone else cares about him or his "masterpiece".

i don't worship daniel, i only like the post-freak show, cause the guy matured and became a better musician... i just think he's underrated.
And i don't think we'll see Alice in chains or Pearl Jam (i love them though) switch from what they have always been doing to pop or electronic the way daniel did. Is it bad, no, It's just different.

I've been playing guitar for 25 years....that's longer than you've been alive.
Everything from 3 chord progressions, to jazz modes, to blues pentatonics, to drop d riffs like you'd find on Frogstomp.
I've played more music than you've listened to, and my mind is wide open, swee'pea.
Daniel just lost his edge. Even on Neon and Diorama, he still had some balls...but this album sounds like it was written by Natalie...
I just can't believe Ben and Chris put up with playing this shit...

All I'm saying is...15 years ago, If Daniel would have seen a guy like the one he has become...he'd have laughed at and probably called him names.
He went from headbanging to heavy riffs, to wearing a headband, molester mustache, tight jeans, moving around on stage like a girl, and singing in high pitch more than his normal pitch...while playing gayed up pop music.
Natalie stripped the balls right off of this guy, and she probably still has 'em, because she won 'em in the divorce...

Of course SG is a better band. Daniel was jacking riffs from all of the Seattle bands. Listen to SC's "Slave" and Mad Season's "I Don't Know Anything". Total stolen riff.
And I agree they have built their own sound now...
What my original comment had to with was the fact Daniel "gayed up" the two songs he did play from FS and FS (The Door and Freak) in concert in '07.
I'm just saying that I will never give these guys another one of my dollars. But others will still buy this shit...

i don't really like young modern, and that doesn't mean it's crap, i just don't like it, but i do think it's great musically.

I keep coming back to this song, just to see if it changes for me. Unfortunately, it sounds just as gay today, as it did the first time I heard it. Natalie stripped the balls right off of Daniel...just like Gwen did to Gavin.
I'm not saying the music has to be angry... But for god sakes, Daniel...pick up the PRS and play some heavy shit again.
I saw 'chair in '97 and '07. They rocked in '97. In '07, when they did play their old shit...it was so gayed up, I quit listening.

I love Silverchair circa 1995-1999...I even like The Lever, and a few other songs off their later albums. I even kind of like Low from this album.
But for Christ's sake....don't completely abandon your fans that love the heavy side of your music. This started when he started seeing Natalie, and began playing with Paul Mac.
I've even heard new shit that they're currently recording. It's Young Modern part deux.
Go back to heavy or completely lose me as a fan, Silverchair.

Not that I dont agree with what you're saying, I also prefer their old stuff than what they put out now, but then again you cant say the man aint a musical and lyrical genius, he's just evolved beyond our comprehension.
So no point in crying about it coz theres no chance in hell of them going back :/ best thing to do is put on Frogstomp or one of those albums, kick back and remember the good old days...

Daniel is good, but not a lyrical/musical genius by any means...nor is his music beyond comprehension. There is nothing he writes that I and alot of other musicians cannot write.
When I think of musical/lyrical genius in the rock genre, I think King Crimson, Tool, Zappa, Pantera, Pearl Jam, etc. Those artists perform technical, yet unconventional styles.
Daniel is merely writing pop melodies, using simple progressions.

I agree, he's not doing anything special... but he did it when he was 15 years old. "Post-grunge" didn't exist by then, this kid practically reinvented a genre. He made lots of money, assured his future in this world... and now he's doing whatever he wants. (will be continued)

this clearly shows you don't know anything about Daniel's work and/or how to listen to music.
If you knew a bit about Diorama you'd know that Daniel composed it's songs in piano and in guitar using open tunings in some songs. He also made the orchestral arrangements along with Van Dyke Parks.
Besides, what's the matter if he doesn't play technical styles or uses simple progressions? If you can't see beyond that in music... well, you really need to learn to listen.

This last year I've been thinking a lot about what I wanted to play with my friends... we used to play heavy metal and thrash, but that was almost 5 years ago... as one grows up, I guess you tend to calm down a little bit... I started playing grunge and alternative rock 2 years ago. I always listened to it but never found it "attractive" for me to play it. Well, here I am now. If you analyze any contemporary musician's career, they all tend to calm down as time goes by. It's just part of life :P

This is not about being close minded, ya dipshit. This is simply about not needing another pop band in this world. One Jonas Brothers is enough.
Once again.. there is nothing about this music that is genius. It is simple pop melodies.
No matter how talented, what tuning, what time signature, or what progressions are in this music...it's still gayed up pop music in the end. But hey, Daniel's scoring alot of dick and winning alot of awards by playing it...so it must be good.

check other performances, please. just because for comparison.. laryngitis isn't fair. during the great divide tour/07 he hit all of across the night, IMO better than the diorama days. not that i'm saying you're wrong or anything, but this wasn't his best day is all.

Man, Daniel's vocals in this version are leagues above the Jay Leno performance. It's hard to believe that this aired about a day after they played on the Tonight Show. I only wish he sang it this well the previous night so that more people would have been exposed to Dan's greatness.
