This had neither orphans or candy on board.. This was a birthday present for an old man who did eventually die from this accident. Orphans and candy.. What a tosser..
The only thing I can think of is that the bird was overloaded and couldn't get higher than in ground effect hover, tried to compensate by reaching ETL by going down the street, but failed miserably. Whatever the case he should not have hovered down the street, and if he was over weight, he should have recognized that and set back down. Either way, he probably lost his certification or received a harsh penalty by the JAA (I don't think this was US so not FAA...)
@code123ns That goes without saying, key to that report would be a tail number, location, type of aircraft... without one of those, you would have to search through every single report of a helicopter crash... and without personally knowing what country it was even in... it's bout near impossible.
@code123ns Very interesting, seems the pilot knew one of his engines was not producing full power but decided not to land. One has to wonder how in his head setting the bird back down was not as good of an idea as hovering down a street with hazards on either side. And now I'm curious, how did you find this all out? Did you already know about this particular crash? Thanks again for the report info, was a good read, happily no orphans or candy was involved though :D
@Wahlnutz no problem :) I just saw that you had an idea what you were talking about and remembered that I've seen the report somewhere.. it's sort of "famous" actually. Always good to spread the info; learn form others mistakes..
wow... just wow.. look at 0:43-0:47 lower left corner.. he cuts off a truck. The driver probably shit himself. Where was this at? it looks like he's trying to taxi down a boulevard. que lindo...
That street was way to short to be able to catch enough speed for translational lift..But you may be right about weight, those blades looked like they were coning pretty good.
Why don't you learn to fly a helicopter before you make uneducated comments about them. The amount that you can lift does increase with the amount of airspeed you have. The rule of thumb for the Eurocopters I fly is about 6 pounds per knot. As you increase airspeed you reduced the power needed to stay aloft. I have flown a Bell 407, BO105 , and BK117 professionally for the past 6 years. I know what the f**k I am talking about.
I know what I'm talking about also. You are correct of course; however, the power curve is an inverted U with less power needed to maintain lift as airspeed increases and then as speed increases above a point (say 60-80 knots) you need more power. Most power needed to go very slow (hover) and very fast. Helicopter pilots should always be respectful of others and the general lack of knowledge of helicopters and educate kindly. Think of the candy. mmmmm.
If you understood the basic physics of helicopter you might not answer so stupidly, the increased speed means an increased air flow through the blades creating more lift then when in a stationary hover
I'm not sure if my last comment posted cos my computers being a bit of a willy head so basically I linked some info because I think I did explain it wrong, I shall pm the link as whenever I post links youtube doesn't seem to won't it to post
Think of it like a motor boat prop in the water. If you hold the boat in place and crank the engine the water will become very disturbed and the prop will lose efficiency because of the turbulence of the water. If you release the boat the prop will move out of that turbulence and start biting into undisturbed water as it moves forward. Continued forward movement-->continued efficiency improvment. Helicopter's usually fly out of their own turbulence at about 15 to 22 mph. The airflow does change
helicopter full of candy and orphans!! LOL that doesnt sound made up.. were there puppys on it too? and kitten! they should have sold one of the orphans to help pay for a real pilot. this guy had to of known there was a problem when he started hitting that tree. why would u try to leave knowing theres a serious problem. hes 5 feet off the ground- he had tons of time and space to put it down. but he decided hed keep goin n see what happens.
You all are just total morons!! Trying to explain stuff, commenting it looks overweight, but cannot even ID the type!! What heli pilots you are !!
It's a Russian Mi-2 Hoplite, not a kitbuilt or homebuilt heli. You can pick them up for around US$200K, not bad for a good heli. This video clip is bad publicity, they fly extremely well. Of course they will fly well, they are Russian heli's, absolute workhorses.
If I'm not misstaken, the flight was for a man celebrating his 80th birthday, the trip was a gift from his kids. The pilot was not authorized to fly that helicopter in that perticular country at all.
Not homemade. I don't know which, but it looks like a Russian model. I think Russian choppers are ugly and unreliable so they don't really interest me. I'd be just as happy if I never flew in one.

I LOVE BEING FROM THE GREATEST COUNTRY IN THE WORLD!!!!!!!!!!If I was a chump like you from some meaningless country"that your more than obviously from" id keep my fucking mouth shut. GOD I HATE PEP FROM 2ND WORLD COUNTRIES!
Its a Mil Mi-2. What an idiot pilot flying in a built up area like that. Really lost it on the landing, or whatever he was doing. Being a smart arse proved costly.
He was probably trying to get some translational lift from foward flight as it looks like it was overloaded. I have to do this sometimes but i wouldnt do it here in a street. Id turf some of the pax out so its lighter.
What are you talking about? Are you purposefully trying to show off by using enigmatic language? Translational lift is used in every departure, not "sometimes." And as a pilot I can't even make heads or tails of your last sentence. It's disrespectful of those who have put in the time.
I didnt say it was used "sometimes" i said that i sometimes have to use translational lift to get airbourne as the helicopter is on its maxium all up weight and just raising the collective only gets the skids or wheels light on the ground. And if you really were a pilot you would know what turfing out the pax means. Its pilot speak for getting some of the passengers to get off the aircraft.
I'm a heli pilot and have never heard of "turfing the pax" either....
pf126p is correct, Transational lift happens in every tranistion to flight from the hover.
This I believe is the Russian mi-8, just looked completely over weight. Yes you can as you said 'madeljacky' run the skids across the floor to gain transational lift and depart, but not only is it clearly over weight and dangerous to do that, you are more than likely past MAW and are ilegal anyway. plus you dont do it in a street.
Oh, I see. LMAO. I didn't even understand what he was saying. Taxiing into translational lift? That would never occur to me to drag my overloaded ass along the ground, even with infinite clearance. That's so stupid it's funny. Good God, how fast would you have to be taxiing?? Who knows. No way. Maybe that's how they do it in Russia.
It is taught in pretty much every countrys ppl(h) sylabus.
I learnt to as you say drag my arse across the floor to get airbourne. It can be done for 'emergency' situations of whic my instructors have never managed of a situation I would ever actually need to do it unless i'm above MAUW and there for ilegal anyway, so it's cach 22.
That would be the whole point of taxiing across the floor into transational lift, 'if you were over weight'
Try it, just apply enough power to become light on the skids but not enough to hover, and ease the cyclic forward until you start "lol dragging your ass" around, or if your really over loaded and have the room go in big left circles all while on the floor(if your in a robbie or bell etc) and wait for transational lift to occur and your away! always good practise to try new skills...
You can drive a car with your feet; it doesn't make it good idea. xD
As far as honing and building skills, I couldn't agree more; I never ever lie back on my laurels.
Hmm... ground taxiing (on skids) always kind of turned me off anyway (I like to get it up ASAP!), so we'll see about fully entering translational lift while still on the floor, lol. I'll keep you posted.
I've read stories from vietnam helicopter pilots who literally dragged their overloaded hueys in circles in order to reach transitional lift. Trippy shit.
he forgot he was flying, thats what its like after a long day at work flying pleasure flights, you get back in your chopper to go home thinking your in a car, i'll just glide along angelically hovering nicely above the tarmac, oooo shit my cars got rotors n they dont like tree's or lampposts.
i agree that this wasnt at all funny... someone could have been killed or seriously hurt in a crash like that... and if you think that is funny then your sick in the head.
Censoredmunky.. what you are suggesting is what is known as a "Max Power takeoff" alot of things dictate flight characteristics of helicopters, weight, temp, Atmospheric pressure. In other words he may not have had enough power to "hover above trees" no pilot would do that anyway, because it puts you into the area known as the "dead mans curve" look it up, and NO he didn't deserve it.
Fist of all, that is NOT a homebuilt, second of all it was, believe it or not a present for a man celebrating his 100 th birthday, he did not die in the crash of his injuries, but did pass away in the hospital a few days later. Go to ALEXPARKIN for the video and explaniation. Although on a hot day, and with a noticable lack of power, the pilot in command should have aborted the takeoff.
registered MI-2 helicopter lies on its side. (AP file photo)Everyone on the flight survived with nothing more than cuts and bruises, but the 100-year-old Zetterlund was flown to Uppsala University Hospital as a precaution. He had been in stable condition at the time of the crash, but his condition worsened and he died on Friday, said the hospital. Prosecutors are investigating the crash, which was captured by a Swedish television crew.
Post a stolen video where a 100 year old man's birthday flight turns into a nightmare and kills him. Bad piloting. You can point out the bit that's funny after someone kicks your teeth in.
The chopper's a russian design, not a homebuilt, so your know fuck all on top of being a turd.
that was not funny at all how is that funny ever thought of the pilot? ever thought of the civillians or the people on the street? people like you think violence and death is funny. this was sad and i hate people like you 1/5
A man died in this crash. The pilot, if he survived, should have his license pulled. What an idiot to fly in that confined area down a populated street. MORON.
birthday and his gift was a ride in this PZL-Swidnik Sokol helicopter. He did not survive his injuries and died the next morning if I have my facts straight. I fly helicopters for a living and I really would like to know where the pilot received his flight training. Most of us would never entertain flying in such a confined area without having a safe departure and approach path. Too bad for the old man. A sad way to go.
thats not a homemade helicopter...and im a helicopter pilot and they arent that hard to fly at all ... you just have to have a good idea with physics ...so hes a dumb ass
what an asshole flying so close to people and putting them in danger.... he was choppin the trees up like it was a weedwacker... whats he even doing around trees, let alone a neighboorhood?!
Nope. this was not a homebuilt. It is an ex-Russian Mil Mi-2. The day was hot and the heli was heavily loaded yet the pilot decided to continue the takeoff. The 100-year-old passenger died a week later. Funny is a tasteless way to describe this.
That is really dumb to operate any vehicle over it's loading capacity. If it was me, I'd stay couple hundred pounds below capacity. Better safe than sorry!
One life lost, more could have been taken, luckily no explosions occured, expensive mess. The pilot should be heavily fined. It could have been much worse.
Why would he pilot it down a normal residential street? Surely that isn't normal practice...? I would have thought hover, 360 check lift off? Or something liek that.
csirac2-Mosquito is actually making a turbine option for their XE now too.pretty sweet ultralight n all.(i think) but about the video, maximum perfomance takeoff any1?
actually every one servived the crash. this flight was a gift to man for his 100th birthday. yes 100... they all got out of the crash but the old man died a week or so later due to his injuries.
What a fucking dumbass. That guy had no buissness flying any aircraft much less a homemade experimental helicopter down the fucking road. The video is definatly not funny. When the craft is going down the road and clipping trees you can see what appears to be small children playing in a field. You the guy makes all pilots look bad.
Neither homemade nor funny. One of the occupants died. 2005 in Stockholm, a joyflight gone wrong. Lithuanian registered Russian Mi-2 with an (apparently inexperienced/not-trained-for-type) Polish pilot.
You copied this clip from somewhere that _DID_ have the correct information. So why, for the love of god, would you make shit up and put a devastatingly inaccurate title?
What were you thinking when you posted it? Is it too hard to read the text around wherever you pulled this from?
It was not overloaded. Maybe a passenger sitting on the collective?
According to a PPruNe post, he was a PPL-H, not checked out for this type, registered experimental but not in Sweden.
It seems there were criminal proceedings but I can't see anything obvious on Google.
It's just frustrating a twin-turbine 3-bladed military helicopter could be mistaken for a homebuilt. The most advanced kit helicopters I'm aware of are still piston powered, unless you count the single-seat heli-cycle.
Another theory was that the pilot was hot-dogging it for the camera. It was a local news crew filming; doing a story about the 100-year old birthday passenger, the aircraft was arriving and departing out of a nursing home.
You are ignorant!!! It is not an homebuilt helicopter, it is a Mil helicopter! Homebuilt flying machine can be as good as a known one, you just have to build it correctly.
What's amazing is that he somehow overloaded this massive helicopter for personal use if that was the case. If it was the first flight why would he load it with anything? Did anyone notice the real reason he crashed? He hit a light pole. The tree trimming was not good but for those massive blades probably didn't do too much. They were very small and it continued to hit a light pole. Very bad judgement in any case. How did anyone look up the crash without a tail number being visible?
Very strange that the instructor allowed the student to take off in an area with trees everywhere. Was the student being verbally instructed without the instructors controls? how stupid is that!
I'm sorry, where is the funny part? those blades could have kill someone...also it must have cost over 20G's to make...It was attractive until it crash...
B) A man who was taking his very first (and unfortunately, last) helicopter ride (it was a birthday present) sustained fatal injuries from this crash. If I remember correctly, he was either in his 80s or 90s.
Why the pilot reduced his forward airspeed (thereby loosing life) instead of increasing it (in order to gain more lift) is beyond me.
LOL "Candy and Orphans" you sick bastard! hahah :)

Helicopter; registration, type LY-HCS, Mi-2
Persons on board:
crew:1
passengers:5
Injuries to persons: One person was seriously injured and died
three days later.Five were slightly injured nearby.
A technical investigation has detected foreign matter in the fuel injection
system of one of the engines which reduced the possible fuel flow through
this by approximately 50 %.

Censoredmunky.. what you are suggesting is what is known as a "Max Power takeoff" alot of things dictate flight characteristics of helicopters, weight, temp, Atmospheric pressure. In other words he may not have had enough power to "hover above trees" no pilot would do that anyway, because it puts you into the area known as the "dead mans curve" look it up, and NO he didn't deserve it.
dwinslow1245 3 years ago
Theres your problem...
Its sort stupid that he flew so low... I would have at least hovered ABOVE the trees before taking off...
He probably deserved it...

Homebuilt: NOT

A 100 year old man was celebrating a milestone
birthday and his gift was a ride in this PZL-Swidnik Sokol helicopter. He did not survive his injuries and died the next morning if I have my facts straight. I fly helicopters for a living and I really would like to know where the pilot received his flight training. Most of us would never entertain flying in such a confined area without having a safe departure and approach path. Too bad for the old man. A sad way to go.
Classic63EType 3 years ago 2
flight training? looks more like the pilot had not at all!

asksdahsudhai....that is not home made!
ymmashus94 4 years ago 2
Nope. this was not a homebuilt. It is an ex-Russian Mil Mi-2. The day was hot and the heli was heavily loaded yet the pilot decided to continue the takeoff. The 100-year-old passenger died a week later. Funny is a tasteless way to describe this.
propwash72 4 years ago 8
That is really dumb to operate any vehicle over it's loading capacity. If it was me, I'd stay couple hundred pounds below capacity. Better safe than sorry!
One life lost, more could have been taken, luckily no explosions occured, expensive mess. The pilot should be heavily fined. It could have been much worse.
Helivz 4 years ago
Not homebuilt. Not funny. Not much of a crash. Not much of a video.
Menyambal 4 years ago 5
Well, the helicopter is cool to watch, and the pilot must have been an idiot. But the title is all ****ed up.
Menyambal 4 years ago 3
Maybe the car at 0:46 scared the pilot over into the trees. He's still dumb, though.
Menyambal 4 years ago
Why would he pilot it down a normal residential street? Surely that isn't normal practice...? I would have thought hover, 360 check lift off? Or something liek that.

actually every one servived the crash. this flight was a gift to man for his 100th birthday. yes 100... they all got out of the crash but the old man died a week or so later due to his injuries.
smokestream888 4 years ago 2
What a fucking dumbass. That guy had no buissness flying any aircraft much less a homemade experimental helicopter down the fucking road. The video is definatly not funny. When the craft is going down the road and clipping trees you can see what appears to be small children playing in a field. You the guy makes all pilots look bad.
Bluesplayer78 4 years ago
that was funny when the rotor was beating the tree haha

i disagree that pilot had no idea what he was doing.and the worst part is there where tons of ppl around watchin.but it definetly was funny.
tripster5 4 years ago
Neither homemade nor funny. One of the occupants died. 2005 in Stockholm, a joyflight gone wrong. Lithuanian registered Russian Mi-2 with an (apparently inexperienced/not-trained-for-type) Polish pilot.
You copied this clip from somewhere that _DID_ have the correct information. So why, for the love of god, would you make shit up and put a devastatingly inaccurate title?
What were you thinking when you posted it? Is it too hard to read the text around wherever you pulled this from?
csirac2 4 years ago 3
Seeing as you seem to know what is happening in this video...any idea on why the pilot attempted to fly so low down a road?
NELHAOTEC 4 years ago
It was not overloaded. Maybe a passenger sitting on the collective?
According to a PPruNe post, he was a PPL-H, not checked out for this type, registered experimental but not in Sweden.
It seems there were criminal proceedings but I can't see anything obvious on Google.
It's just frustrating a twin-turbine 3-bladed military helicopter could be mistaken for a homebuilt. The most advanced kit helicopters I'm aware of are still piston powered, unless you count the single-seat heli-cycle.
csirac2 4 years ago
There are turbine powered homebuilts... this isn't one of them, but...
howajo 3 years ago
Another theory was that the pilot was hot-dogging it for the camera. It was a local news crew filming; doing a story about the 100-year old birthday passenger, the aircraft was arriving and departing out of a nursing home.
csirac2 4 years ago
whos the idiot flying it
COBHC619 4 years ago
You are ignorant!!! It is not an homebuilt helicopter, it is a Mil helicopter! Homebuilt flying machine can be as good as a known one, you just have to build it correctly.
belanger20 4 years ago
Watch the top of the light by the vehicle then watch it get chopped and fall off. This is a metal light pole.
chprplt 4 years ago
What's amazing is that he somehow overloaded this massive helicopter for personal use if that was the case. If it was the first flight why would he load it with anything? Did anyone notice the real reason he crashed? He hit a light pole. The tree trimming was not good but for those massive blades probably didn't do too much. They were very small and it continued to hit a light pole. Very bad judgement in any case. How did anyone look up the crash without a tail number being visible?
chprplt 4 years ago 2
pmsl that was fantastic, post more please
cruggy23 4 years ago
The pilot must have been a complete idiot
to try to fly down a road surrounded by
trees. I fly model helicopters and even for
models it takes a long to learn to hover
and then fly forwards. Helicopters have very
odd dynamics and the controls are not easy
to learn..I cant understand this kind of
foolishness.
microflite 4 years ago
Very strange that the instructor allowed the student to take off in an area with trees everywhere. Was the student being verbally instructed without the instructors controls? how stupid is that!

A) This is NOT a homemade helicopter.
