why do all of the good cornerbacks in the league have to be matched up with the best wide receivers? for example, reggie wayne and darrelle revis are always matched up. throwing the ball to the left is therefore a bad idea, no matter how good your receiver is or how good their cornerback is

I agree completely. One thing about Manning, and it's as much the Colt's brass fault as his is that he calls the plays,runs practice and has entirely too much responsibility. Often it works in the Colts favor but it sometimes does not. He takes it upon himself to win it. It's not the first time he's called a bad play or series of plays. Addai had a great game and they went away from him. Addai was huge in SB41 too. This excess in responsibility is why that team only has 1 SB ring.

Teams win Super Bowls and the Saints played nearly flawless after the 1st qtr. The pick six was the nail in the coffin but I never thought for a second that Brees wouldn't drive right down the field and score if the Colts had scored. Did Brees have an incompletion in the 2nd half? He was awesome that night.

@indyco29 If Manning had kept the Saints off balance with more runs on that final drive, the chances of the Pick-6 happening would've been greatly reduced. The run game had been working all day. Plus the Colts could've scored with little or no time on the clock and let the cointoss decide it. A cointoss is 50/50 but that's a heck of alot better odds than that tired Colts defense had of stopping Brees from getting a game winning FG drive if the Colts had scored with 1 min left.

Hard to say I have to give it to Brady on that one though. He IS the more accurate QB beyond doubt, but they have different styles really. Brady does live in a more concrete system.. and obviously better coaching. Manning makes more plays off his receivers to just try and zip it in and beat the man player, but he also gets picked off alot more that way..... Brady to me is a more safe pick, wont make big mistakes. To Me Manning is no better than Favre..... both great... just not that Great.
Manning i believe is a better QB. Brady runs a normal formation with his coach Bill B. giving him his plays. Brady is accurate but in the season he threw 50 tds it was random lobbs mostly to moss. Manning was consistant with his 49. And manning runs the hurry up O. Witch means he plays QB and mostly coach as well. Smarts out beat any characteristic, just watch UFC its the same. You look at this Colts team, they are only getting better. They have a good crop of young recievers in Gonzelas and Garcon. Solid Defence, and an unbelievable D-line (which now has more depth with Chick and Hughes). Also, the experience that this play-off run has had on the younger guys. They are only going to get better in the next few years...

@1992gabe Superbowls are indeed won by a team. But, a Superbowl CAN be lost by one player. One key player making several key mistakes. Manning just proved that. He lost that game in the last 3:30 with his big game jitters. Patriots lost a Superbowl but not on Brady errors, he gave his team a chance every time. And the Patriots lost 11 games in 2000 before Brady took over, that's not very strong. They haven't had a losing season with Brady. The Colts have had losing seasons with Manning.

@1992gabe Actually, if not for Adam V. Manning would have no rings. Remember the divisional round agains the Ravens leading up to SB 41? The Ravens' D shut down Manning but they won because of 5 FG's by Adam, final score: 15-6. Manning had a 39.6 rating in that game but the Defense and Adam carried him or he never would've made the Superbowl.

Brady came close and Ben is still a budding legacy, but Manning lacks that cool repose in the clutch...that was evident way back during his college days. Look beyond strictly the numbers at the context of the situation...peyton's wideouts never got consistent separation(credit saints dbs) while the colts dbs were routinely beaten by the saints wideouts and hence brees had wide open targets while manning's were covered. Ask yourself this, are the colts really this talented? What if manning were on the vikes, boys or steelers, how good would that team be?

I agree completely. One thing about Manning, and it's as much the Colt's brass fault as his is that he calls the plays,runs practice and has entirely too much responsibility. Often it works in the Colts favor but it sometimes does not. He takes it upon himself to win it. It's not the first time he's called a bad play or series of plays. Addai had a great game and they went away from him. Addai was huge in SB41 too. This excess in responsibility is why that team only has 1 SB ring.

Teams win Super Bowls and the Saints played nearly flawless after the 1st qtr. The pick six was the nail in the coffin but I never thought for a second that Brees wouldn't drive right down the field and score if the Colts had scored. Did Brees have an incompletion in the 2nd half? He was awesome that night.

@indyco29 If Manning had kept the Saints off balance with more runs on that final drive, the chances of the Pick-6 happening would've been greatly reduced. The run game had been working all day. Plus the Colts could've scored with little or no time on the clock and let the cointoss decide it. A cointoss is 50/50 but that's a heck of alot better odds than that tired Colts defense had of stopping Brees from getting a game winning FG drive if the Colts had scored with 1 min left.

If he keeps pace with his current trend on average about 15 int a year he will be gaining on favre with and hold 3rd place in interceptions, if he screws up and has a few more 20+ years,.. which in his case is probable, you can tack on 20 more to that.
If he plays ten more years I dont see how he can avoid it.

Brees didnt need luck, he had better regular and post season stats than Manning, and He didn't Choke in the big game. Manning might chase marino and Favre for total yards, but he is too inconsistent to match Steve youngs career percentage mark, and he is in severe damage of shattering Favres interception record before he hits the yardage records.
Also he chokes in the big game, .. hell he chokes in the playoffs, Young, Brady, Montana, Big Ben, Brees are all easily superior QBs to manning.

The Pats were 5-11 the year before Brady took over, and they were 0-3 with Bledsoe as a starter when he finally got hurt and Brady came it to play. So that's 5-14 in 19 games before Brady comes in and wins the Superbowl. Does that look dominant to you? You're delusional if you think they were good before Brady. @1992gabe Also, The Colts were 3-13 in 97', and then they drafted Manning and they went 3-13 again. It wasn't until 99' Edgerrin James' rookie year that they went 13-3 and won the division but got bounce in the first round of the playoffs.
In the year before Brady showed up they were 5-11 and 0-3 with Bledsoe starting. He gets hurt, Brady comes in, they go 14-2 with Brady as a starter including the Superbowl which they win. Ask peyton what's a bigger comeback, 13-3 or 11-5 plus the Superbowl?

Hard to say I have to give it to Brady on that one though. He IS the more accurate QB beyond doubt, but they have different styles really. Brady does live in a more concrete system.. and obviously better coaching. Manning makes more plays off his receivers to just try and zip it in and beat the man player, but he also gets picked off alot more that way..... Brady to me is a more safe pick, wont make big mistakes. To Me Manning is no better than Favre..... both great... just not that Great.

Manning i believe is a better QB. Brady runs a normal formation with his coach Bill B. giving him his plays. Brady is accurate but in the season he threw 50 tds it was random lobbs mostly to moss. Manning was consistant with his 49. And manning runs the hurry up O. Witch means he plays QB and mostly coach as well. Smarts out beat any characteristic, just watch UFC its the same. You look at this Colts team, they are only getting better. They have a good crop of young recievers in Gonzelas and Garcon. Solid Defence, and an unbelievable D-line (which now has more depth with Chick and Hughes). Also, the experience that this play-off run has had on the younger guys. They are only going to get better in the next few years...

Just to clear this up...they didn't LOSE their second superbowl in four years. They WON a superbowl and they lost one . The way you have it worded sounds like they lost them both. There can only be ONE winner. They made it to the superbowl which is more than all the other teams except for New Orleans can say. That makes them one of the two best teams in the league for this year. GO COLTS!!!

@terimeriful Overall the Colts played a pretty damn good game too. I know everyone points to the interception at the end, but other than that it was almost a flawless game on each side. As a neutral observer I have to say that it was a great game to watch.

Colts were the worst before manning came, he was the first pick. now look at the colts. Superbowls are won by a team, but MVP's are won by a player. Manning is the greatest of all time. I like brady, but putting him before manning is just Jewish.

@1992gabe Superbowls are indeed won by a team. But, a Superbowl CAN be lost by one player. One key player making several key mistakes. Manning just proved that. He lost that game in the last 3:30 with his big game jitters. Patriots lost a Superbowl but not on Brady errors, he gave his team a chance every time. And the Patriots lost 11 games in 2000 before Brady took over, that's not very strong. They haven't had a losing season with Brady. The Colts have had losing seasons with Manning.

@jamor111 Yeah it was brady's fualt. And Manning threw the ball perfectly top reggie wayne, but he didn't step up to make the catch. he just let porter take it from in front of him. And also the colts d fence lost it for them. And that onside kick is what decided the game. Also the patriots lost the playoffs this year becuase of brady , not to mention that the SB's that brady won were decided by a vinitari field goal.

@1992gabe Actually, if not for Adam V. Manning would have no rings. Remember the divisional round agains the Ravens leading up to SB 41? The Ravens' D shut down Manning but they won because of 5 FG's by Adam, final score: 15-6. Manning had a 39.6 rating in that game but the Defense and Adam carried him or he never would've made the Superbowl.
See how that works?
If you criticize Brady for the Adam FG's, then the same can be said about Manning. Adam V. helped both of them win Superbowls.

@1992gabe Brady never Choked up a pick-6 to lose the Superbowl. Manning did. Even with the onside kick, the Colts had a chance to win but Manning wasn't clutch enough to finish the drive to tie it. He choked up the Int. Funny that you blame the Colts defense because Manning's pick-6 was the game. Then on the next drive, Manning threw yet another pick but the defender stepped out of bounds as he caught it and bailed out Manning. Blaming the loss on the onside kick is lame cause it was early.

@jamor111 Ok so if all ur superbowls are won by a field goal that makes you a clutch QB? All brady really had to do was beat the fucking ravens, but he choked on big dick and lost big time. I guess he couldn't clutch. And that game against the colts last season, 4th quarter manning score two unanswered td's, all brady had to do was make the 4th down conversion, but i guess he wasn't clutch enough. And the colts were up a lot so vinitari didn't need to kick anything at the SB.

@1992gabe I agree with you, Brady is not as clutch in the reg season, and he choked against the Ravens and 4 times in the playoffs that's why he's 14-4 in the playoffs. Manning has choked 9 times in the playoffs, he's 9-9 so he's more than twice the choker.
At least Brady never threw a pick-6 in the biggest game. Forrest Gump up there on the screen did. A pick-6 to ice the Superbowl is the ultimate form of choking. Also Brady has choked in the first round once, Forrest has done it 6 times

With one of the best teams in the NFL u better be able to clutch. Manning lost two key player at recieving core and still made it to the superbowl. Tom brady's team has been nice. Tom brady never clutched, the pats as a whole did But now that most of the players are gone or old, tom has been choking big time!

Forget the box score. If you look at the quarter by quarter score the Saints outscored the Colts 31-7 after the first quarter. That constitutes a rout that was capped with the pick.

As Bart Starr said, you don't really see what a player is made of until he plays in a superbowl. This is why the measuring stick for greatest QB of all time is still held up to Joe Montana and will be for quite some time. Brady came close and Ben is still a budding legacy, but Manning lacks that cool repose in the clutch...that was evident way back during his college days. Rest assured that Joe cool would have never thrown a pick six with 4 minutes to go in a superbowl.

Interesting, when you look at the box score the Colts look like they creamed the Saints... 5.2yds/rush? Roughly 50% 3rd down conversion? No sacks allowed? Regardless, its the intangibles of the Saints that gave them the win, including the onside kick at half time and the excellent QB'ing of Brees.

I am a Colts fan and was disappointed with the loss but the cold hard truth is that Saints wanted it more and got what they deserved.

Btw, if anyone watched this game, peyton actually outplays brees. Look beyond strictly the numbers at the context of the situation...peyton's wideouts never got consistent separation(credit saints dbs) while the colts dbs were routinely beaten by the saints wideouts and hence brees had wide open targets while manning's were covered. Ask yourself this, are the colts really this talented? What if manning were on the vikes, boys or steelers, how good would that team be?

The title says it all Peyton was defeated and had a bad day. It takes nothing away from him he is still the 4 time MVP of the league and it's not like that was all he had left in him.
There will be more Super Bowls for Peyton (and Eli) and he will still go down if not the best then one of the best to ever to play the game.
