reminds me I hate these "Install videos" when the blocks out the car. Anyone can work on an engine when it's out the car. Show us in car, that's a completely different ball game. That's what 80% of the people watching came to see.
@ladygodia - Just in case it's not 100% obvious, this is/was a test video for a sample clip of the "Basic Engine Building" DVD. It is NOT a car repair DVD. It's for people who are REBUILDING their motors. When rebuilding an engine, the block will always be out of the car.
Some people are comprehensive when it comes to crakshafts and believe that they are highly complexed. They are not all that complicated, of course a beautiful piece of engineering in any engine combination, internal and external (steam) combustion engines. I have been involved with them all my life and stripped and reassembled many engines. One of my favourite parts of the engines, it a shane that no see-through cylinder block can be made to see it in action.
@vizestroowash Hi i dont know if your question was answered or not but the cam opens the valves. one valve opens and lets the fuel/air mixture then closes for the pistion to sroke up to create compression in prep for the explosion by the spark plug. Then the exhaust valve opens to suspend the product Which is non flamable and eventually makes it out your tail pipe
would cam bearings cause lack of oil psi??? on my 97 sierra 5.7 litter v8? when its cold at start up i get over 40psi but has the engine warms up its drops down to about 20psi when idleing and then goes back up to 40ish my driveing is that the cam bearings or rod brearing that are causeing that? and how much would it be to reaplce each or those???
Don't forget to Moly lube the lifters and distributor gear. Its also a good idea to run the oil pump using a high torque electric drill and a old distributor shaft inserted in the pump when you have the motor assembled. This will circulate oil through the entire engine before you fire it up.
Yea, it ran like a champ! Just pay attention and never assume that parts will fit just because it's new. Spec. everything that you put inside that engine and take your time, Good luck!
@LeoBullterrier This short sample is only one clip from a full length DVD that is over 3 1/2 hours long.
It covers every aspect of an engine rebuild, from removal and disassembly all the way through the machining, pre-assembly checks and to the final sealing, assembly and start-up of the rebuilt engine.

@youdragon higher rpm=more oil pressure. the oil pump is driven by the engine.
