  • very funny

  • I've always wanted to play with a bin lorry just crushing some stuff for shits and giggles.

  • @WTP2k ya me too

  • Just imagine what it does to the bodies....

  • Is this in the UK?

  • one thing thats always got me with this and ive finaly remenbered to ask is what is the rod at 2:04 and what cuased that noise at 2:28

  • The rod was referring to the carriage plate rams - they rods on them are hollowed out so that the hydraulic connection is on the rod end, rather than on the bottom of the cylinder barrel - therefore the hoses don't keep moving back and forward as the packer cycles. Hence - no pipework to f**k up!

We were trying to make the ejector plate move forward when it was already fully forward, hence the hydraulics were stalling.

  • the yellow one is actully a heil powertrack

  • Yeah that's what that model is called today - but back in 1990 it was a Colectomatic 4000 (or Formula 4000 as it is called in the States).

  • where were the ejector plates to

  • Can't remember - think we had it fully retracted forward on the green one.

  • what is the redge oof all 3 of the lorrys because i sure ive sean that green one in west wiltshire

  • The yellow Colectomatic (H277 MOM) was ex Denbighshire Council, now scrapped as the engine was cannibalised for the white Phoenix.

The white Phoenix XL (L384 LWL) was ex Oxford City Council - my mate sold it on to a private waste operator once the engine was repaired.

The green one was from the Midlands somewhere (I think) either Rugby or Warwick....pretty sure.

The green one I am not

  • can you get the dennis phonix excell 15 body the green one which has a pay load of 6 and a haf ton put croncreat in the back and then i think there will be a lot of troble

  • The blade would probably just stall wouldnt' it?

  • that would be fun [lol] :) asumin you could get it over here and restore it 2 working order or not the lorry just the rear end 2 working order

  • can u try and get a rotopress i think theres 1 neer birmingham/london i would get 1 but no money :)

  • Rotopress is good, but I'd much prefer to rescue a Revopak from Malta!

  • u guys are the best youre so funny

  • What was up with the old yellow collectomatic?

  • We couldn't get the blade to roll - i.e the carriage would slide up and down but we couldn't sweep.....annoying!! I reckoned it was an electrical problem - one of the relays that operates the hydraulic valves was bust. So the engine out of that one was cannibalised into the white Dennis.

  • That's fair enough. I always thought Jack Allen/Heil were rubbish bodies (no pun intended). Don't often see the narrow Phoenix/Ex-cell body.

Would love to see if someone's got a video Screw type Norba or GWL Muskateer on here

  • Not seen GWL trucks for ages - are they still in the game?? Remember that West Dunbartonshire had the Glover-Webb Loadmaster (or was it Bulkmaster?) it was effectively a Revopak without teeth - just a plain revolving packer panel.

  • have not seen a Glover for years. was a good 10 years ago i saw one last in london.

We had the Norba "Constrictor"(?) augers in gravesend (kent, not Herts) until the mid 90's.

  • Will we see the white Dennis in (more) action?

  • Afraid the white Dennis has been sold on.

  • Great! A few hundred light bulbs / light tubes would make a big unenvironmentally friendly noise!!

  • Your crush videos are absolutely great. Since a long time my group and I are looking for sexy, crazy crush-videos where a good looking girl is pushing the cush button. So if you can someday arrange a crush video with a girl, would be the greatest. We would also pay..

  • that is actually pretty cool. Hopefully on day we'll see some cars or motorbikes stuck in the back of one of these things. I reckon that thing could easily take a small car in stages.

  • Good fun!!!

  • I am going to go out and buy myself a garabage truck after watching this!!!

  • I've crushed everything you can imagine. fridge, stove, washer, dryer, hotwater tank,sofabed,trees...etc. And yes have been a little tipsy while doing it..

  • do dennis phoenix have a website?

  • i'd use that stuff and kick it then crush it in a garbage truck XD

  • skwish! lol

  • Have you considered selling turns on the dustcart, reckon you could make a fortune judging by the enthusiasm on this site!

  • would certainly be an idea, but they'd have to supply interesting things for us to crush and film.

  • Well, I've got a microwave on the blink I could bring, but it wouldn't make much of a crunch(!). Perhaps I'd better start looking for a piano too...

  • Like they used to do on Big Breakfast? That would be cool. I wonder if they've still got that bread bin?

  • I'm a dustman and I've done a piano! Well, I tried. You need a huge hopper and a deep sweep/slide blade - it destroyed one of our Vultures at work!

  • One of the City Employees I talked to some years ago DID a baby grand in a truck made by " Universal handling" here in the city.. Said it bogged the truck down for a few seconds but it did turn the piano into matchsticks... Said it made one hell of a funky crunch too.

  • I can Imagine it did, my favorite thing when I drove rear loaders, awas fridges and couches, I loved the way they buckled under the blade.

  • I do have a piano, but it is currently on ebay, I dont think the winning bidder would be too pleased. Why dont you have a bid then, you can do what you want with it if you win!!!!

  • Great video, I would also like to see what the crusher would do to a piano, hoping you make more videos like this

  • if you can supply us with a piano - we'll definately have a try!

  • Wow, nice.

I take it he collects them or something?

  • Cool video, I love garbage trucks!

I used to ride around our area in ours and crush stuff every bin day when I was a kid, RotoPress was queen back then, though you just can't beat the good old compactor type for crushing furniture and other crap that goes with a lovely crunch.

    So many memories!

    Hehe!

Do you guys run your own waste collection business?

  • No, the truck is owned by a friend who bought it for restoration. Nothing wrong with having a bit of fun with the crusher!

  • We've since removed the bin lifter so would probably be easier now to get a piano over rave rail. Would be pretty interesting to see how it dealt with the iron frame....

  • You guys ever do a piano? that would be fun.
