Actually the MIG-31 is potentially faster than the MIG-25 since its engines have more thrust (70k pounds combined in the 31 vs 44k on the 25) but its "redlined" to MACH 2.8 to preserve the airframe and engines and enlarge its usefull life... also no speed records were atempted with the MIG-31 as the downfall of the Soviet union made uneconomical to pursuit such goals.
The MIG-31 probably can be faster than the 25 but surelly will too ruin its engines doing so (as did the 25)

In fact the space shuttle is just hanging there in space, not doing a damn thing, but thanks to the rotation of the earth, (and the high altitude) it's (RELATIVE!!!) speed is that high... Pretty lame actually to look at it like that, but theoretically I guess it's right. :-) Of course it also benefits from the velocity it had when entering orbit, that's why it flies (only a little) faster than let's say; the ISS!!! lol

Umm, the F-15 isn't faster than a Mig-31 Foxhound. The Eagle has a max speed of around 1,650mph...Mig-31 can fly at 1,860mph. I have no idea where you got your information.

Holy shit the lack of information astounds me. an aircraft by defintion has to sustain flight by use of atmospherethe not the affect of the air against earth. in other words the top 3 " aircraft" do not count therefore the SR-71(Darkstar) is the fastest aircraft in the world.. also your speed is innacurate because the offical spped is still classified. thank you for wasting my time.

I think the 17,500 mph is from the space craft re-entering the earths atmosphere, not it's actual propultion speed.

@StapledFish No, actually it's the speed while it is in orbit. In fact the space shuttle is just hanging there in space, not doing a damn thing, but thanks to the rotation of the earth, (and the high altitude) it's (RELATIVE!!!) speed is that high... Pretty lame actually to look at it like that, but theoretically I guess it's right. :-) Of course it also benefits from the velocity it had when entering orbit, that's why it flies (only a little) faster than let's say; the ISS!!! lol
