"He got up and walked away", wow. I'd let them safety inspect my vehicle all day to make sure things were as right as possible, thank you SCTA and who everelse is responsible.
I met these guys in 1997 in Hollister during the ralley, they had not yet tried for the world speed record, which they now have. I might go to the salt flats next month to watch them run. I have sent them a request to see if I can run my Corvette on the 5 mile track, that would be fun and how many people get to do this?
My uncle was driving the Ack Attack here...... He was traveling approx 330 mph when he was "hit" by a 5 mph cross wind..... He was not harmed and was actually was back at Bonneville about 3-4 weeks after this crash in the same bike going for the record again.
The McKibben/American Honda "Honda Hawk" streamliner fielded for the record back in the early '70s had the same kind of mishap. It lifted, turned and tumbled, got all torn up and John walked away too. His Hawk had a tall tailfin that really made things worse. But the important thing is even though his 'liner broke up and could have been tragic, good technology and sound engineering saves lives. This Ack Attack 'liner is one well-engineered vehicle.
That's a definite Oh Sh*t moment right there. Anyone willing to go that fast on salt(or anywhere) has a few screws loose. Man, I gotta build something and take a road trip to Utah someday...LOL
Slight Wind Gust! While this is a motorcycle, you can't lean to correct a variation in direction. You must drive throught it...something that is very difficult to do!!!
Must be a different streamliner. Constuction was started in late '02 and the video you see was shot in '04 and the first time the streamliner had been run at high speed.
Sorry I was thinking it was the Bub Harley from the 80's I remember one run it layed over on its side, skidded and popped back up on its wheels and sorta continued on with its run.
omg that was so scary, I almost cried! But then the dude said "hallelujah" and I felt better cuz it made me laugh, hahahahhaa.

Wow!
Seems like a very fine line between running well and a crash.
