  • This does finally put the 2012 A2B in contention with Bionx since they now have regen But one can find Bionx kits for around 1300 or often less

It can be stuck on any walmart 100 dollar full sus for a great cheap car alternative .

After testing the A2B I found the gear ratio too small for an ebike 1st thing I did with my ebike was put on a big chainring . This is the next suggestion for A2B

  • You should wear a helmet.

  • @metermill That's a good point! I nearly always wear helmets and we definitely endorse the idea that everyone on a bike should wear one. -Peter

  • @nycewheels we should talk about this in public. I am pro-choice. I will not wear a helmet in city riding, have not for over fifty years now (I tried it, and gave it up). Millions of Dutch city cyclists also wear no helmet. Helmets make cycling a "uniformed activity." We no longer have helmet laws in Florida. The accident and injury rate dropped. Cars are more cautious of un-helmeted bikers, imo...so, it should be a choice, not a "you should wear a helmet", from the helmut nazis.

  • nycewheels, again you made a great demo video. The bike can't be a great manual pedaler, but that is not the goal of that bike. And it can't be cheap, but it is no sin to make a quality product exciting to the market segment that can afford it. It's obviously a great bike for city runs in particular, and there is none that looks better in action, style does count.

  • That looks like a pretty usefull bike. I got to ask though, does the battery charge up when you peddal also?

  • @eth92 Its really an awesome bike. The suspensions is amazing as well. The 2011 A2B Metro does not charge but the 2012 model now has regenerative braking. This feature is enabled when you pull the brake and uses momentum to recharge the battery a little. Regenerative braking usually increases range by 10-15%. -Bert

  • ok how much is it?

  • @CixDeuce Prices change from year to year, check the link in the description for the current price. -Peter

  • @CixDeuce 2600$

  • @Evgenyraskin Any "new" A2B at this price should be carefully scrutinized. It is likely old stock and may be out of warranty or have a depleted battery. -Peter

  • why cant someone invent a charging system that is powered by the motion of the bike, like having an alternator powered by the wheel and then the alternator could feed the electric motor or the batteries.

  • @dirtyboy601

This is a good idea and the BionX system and some other bikes already use that technology. It is called regenerative braking and recovers about 10% of your energy when costing, braking or going down hill. To recharge while riding does not work since the energy needed to charge is more thatn what is used to drive the charger (100% in 90% out) -BC

  • Nice Bike, just a little pricy :-)

  • @DBJCobb

Agree but once you ride it you might try to scrap together some cash : )

  • @DBJCobb Yeah, The Bionx system alone can run $2000 . So for an extra $600 you get a complete bike from Ultra Motor. I think most would agree the A2B is a great deal when you think of it that way.

  • @csegbers Did you take proper care of those LithiumBatteries? They need to be kept well charged all the time, not run down and let sit near empty for days. With good care they will last 3 - 5 x longer than LeadAcidBatt. I agree though LithiumBatt. are still overprized which should change as sales volumes go up.

  • To anyone considering buying the A2B bike. The bike is certainly fun to ride and nothing else on the market looks as nice. However.... the battery is not ready for primetime. I had the bike for 18 months with minimal use (about 600 miles) before the battery had "dead cells" requiring me to buy another one at $600+. If Ultra gets the battery worked out it can be a great bike... but I cannot recommend buying this bike, your cost of ownership is way too high.

  • @csegbers I agree with Ginosboo, with proper care these batteries should last at least 2 years. Regardless, thank you for sharing your experience. It is important and valuable to have your perspective here. -Peter

  • I would most definitely check this bike out...

  • dude you have the greatest job on ny!

  • @genial55matt :D -Peter

  • Hello there, I see that the 2011 model has improve in function. What is the retail price for the new model?

  • ok cheapest UK price on a 2010 version is 1,800 to 1,900 UK pounds, the 2011 version is 2,400 UK pounds, how does A2B justify the price hike? moved key position, blue LED backlights don't cost that much! can the backlight be turned off? better digital motor? more powerful but goes the same speeds? 600pounds more money? hmmm

  • @BR1GHT0NCH3MTRA1LZ2 I guess costs just go up every month. I think the Dash-panel with the top key position is a nice upgrade. The have also move the controller from inside the motor to the bottom of the main frame to keep it cooler. That allowed them to also add regenerative braking, that's kinda neat too. BC

  • @BR1GHT0NCH3MTRA1LZ2 i've ridden a 2010 model and own a 2011.. the 2011 is miles better.. there are new features, but also issues with the 2010's that got resolved. 2010's had flat tire issues, shock issues (back wheel hitting spare battery), key snapping issues, to name a few, all of which have been resolved. the 2011 has significantly more torque a lot of new useful features. personally, I think 2010 models are obsolete.. the few remaining will probly be sold for less and less..

  • @BR1GHT0NCH3MTRA1LZ2 FlyKly has better tech specs all around and only costs $1900. Just saying.

  • this bike is sexy but the price just blewmines .__.

  • nice bike but too expensive

  • nice bike, but its not recumbent, so i cant ride it. he ran thru all the stop signs.

  • @shoobedoorocketship Recumbents are definitely a comfy way to go, my folks own one each! Ever thought of electrifying yours? We have a lot of customers who install BionX kits on theirs. -Peter

  • @nycewheels i am building a semi recumbent and i am looking for hub motors, front wheel. i want to find a 48 spoke hub motor though, everything seems to be 36 spokes

  • @shoobedoorocketship That may be hard to find, if you do decide to go with a 36 spoke hole motor check out the eZee kit, search for ezee kit on nycewheels(dot)com. This kit has proven itself reliable and powerful over many years of tough use by our customers. -Peter

  • @ nycewheels I am 6,4" tall

  • @onefastnitro Ok, well you would definitely want a taller seat post. We do not carry a taller post but a 31.6mm seat post should fit the bike if you can find a taller version of one of those. The standard A2B seat post is 31.6 x 200 mm. -Peter

  • I like to watch peter even if I had no interest in electric bike.

  • @vendorist Why thanks! -Peter

  • I like the electric Brompton in the background :). Is that the Crystalyte 209 motor on it?

  • @scoloplastic Haha! Yep that's Bert's (the owner of NYCeWheels and cameraman). He loves it and while it may not exactly compete with the A2B it is the one electric bike I know that can fit under the table at a restaurant! As for the technical details, you'll have to send a personal message for that. ; ) -Peter

  • How much does the the A2B cost and can it be shipped to LaCoste ,Tx ?also can a 6,4" 290lb guy fit in this bike? I noticed that the seat post doesn't look like it would adjust they far up .or can the seat post be upgraded to a longer thicker grade seat post? Sorry for all the questions.I really love the A2B

  • @onefastnitro We can ship anywhere in the US, no problem. Please visit the link in the video description find the product page for the A2B Metro. At this link you can view pricing and with an item added to your cart you can calculate shipping costs. The seat post is adjustable to a degree. How tall are you? -Peter
