@tjmccomas It's not Jason's fault. At that time Kirk and Jason didnt have much say in the band, Lars and James were in charge of writing the songs almost completely on their own. In all of his time on Metallica Jason only co-wrote Blackened, My Friend of Misery and another song from Load. Those are James and Lars who wanted to get to bigger audiences and make the crappy music they make since 1991.

So metallica now is more mellow than they were in the 80s, but why the hell is it that Kirk seemes to be a better player in the 80s than he is now, like he can't nail the solos and they're pretty sloppy a lot of the time now (same solos as the 80s)

Then Monsters of Rock - they owned the stadium - crushed the Scorpions that day, Dokken was good, and Van Halen was quite good late that night. Opener was Kingdom Come. Saw the AJFA tour in Omaha, NE, pretty much the same show as here - they were great. After that album, Metallica was no longer a speed metal or thrash band.
