  • He who doesnt know how to listen to music, can not feel music.

    Therefore he cant understand.

The man who creates order through chaos, does something great in my opinion.

    Now music creates emotions right?

This person can create you emotions through manipulated noise.

If you dont like it, its okay, go and listen what record companies serve you in a can, for years.

  • @fattyJNL Well what ever the fuck....I'll never understand this NOISE. Better? :p

  • My nigga, I came from listening to Waka Flocka to this.

    Some dope ass shit.

  • I will never understand noisecore....

  • @Joezena12 It's not a core.

  • It is fair for a person to say this is not music because you can only put value on something that relates to you. Personally, I've been a fan for over 13 years. It's like telling a fly that a certain book is worth reading and will change his life. It may be of value to one person but not another.

  • Mesmerising , this man IS god.

  • i can hear the fukin noise & i like it

  • I'm really intrigued why people listen to this. Either they might think it's just cool, because they pretend to like something which others think is just shocking and noise. Or they are in some way automasochistic.

Really, why do people listen to this?

Oh, and i do like some more extremer music, like breakcore, which i can appreciate in some circumstances. But this really is only a flow of noizy sounds.

  • @sjaartrol Because not everything you listen to has to be music...

  • @sjaartrol I'll tell you what man, look up "john cage on silence" and "stockhausen on sound" which are two instances of contemporary classical composers talking about sound in general, and while you're at it look up "people who do noise" which is a documentary on the portland oregon noise scene. These three things really helped to form how I see music and sound in general especially of course the first two videos.

  • @sjaartrol simple: pretension.

  • you can see in his eyes that this guy has a lot of issues...

  • This is so awesome no i'm kidding this sucks please die

  • I was choking on sound. I am epileptic, and thought I was about to sieze up LOL. Hot shit 4 real, the true neo-classical music if i must put an elitist twist on it. LOL

  • Most people don't get it.

It's all in the texture. It's how the music FEELS.

  • @TheTundraTerror but the funny thing is that there IS melody and rhythm in ANY sound. So it is (if u people could fucking stretch their neurons a little) traditional musical elements in his work, if not somewhat buried ha.

  • @maxabeles and by u people i mean everyone that thinks this Isn't music. Get over your self.

  • @maxabeles There is even structure in almost all his of releases but it usually changes so rapidly it seems random. Now that I think about it there is no sound that is truly random. No matter what sound you make, it has its own individual sound that can't be replicated through any other way except that EXACT conditions in which you made it, it has structure and progression even if that sound lasts for less than a second. Now the "no melody or rhythm in noise" argument seems even more dumb.

  • @TheTundraTerror hahahaha!!! made me lol so bad! THEY DONT GET US! hahaha crybaby

  • @Lrrrrrrrr English, motherfucker! Do you speak it?!

  • @TheTundraTerror Yes, and be glad that English is an international language so you don't have to learn more then one language

  • @Lrrrrrrrr How can you even say that when you apparently like edIT that has roots in glitch music which has it roots in pure distortion of sound (aka noise) through the use of scratched and beat up CD's like for example the classic glitch artist Oval which then took the noise produced cut it up and organized it into a noisy but always rhythmic structure. That's just being a total hypocrite.

  • @squezey1 You have to separate playable music to noise-effects. According to me this is NOT music but rather effects. edIT use those effects in their music while this is just sounds with lots of effects. There are plenty of musicians who use this kind of noise-sounds in their songs, but this is just effects. He even go away from the mixingtable and computer and just let the effects go crazy on eatchother. I get the "It's how the music FEELS" but I think it should be "It's how the effects FEELS"

  • thumbs up if u saw this genius at issue project room last year!

  • @maxabeles Whats it feel like live? I turned my stereo speakers up to max in my room and listened to his stuff and was overwhelmed.

  • Haters gonna hate.

  • REPENT TO YOUR LOCAL CHURCH TODAY FOR BEING EXPOSED TO THIS ABOMINATION OF GOD JAPANEESE SATANIST.

FIRST PEARL HARBOR, NOW THE BRUTAL, UNTHINKABLE CONTANIMATION OF YOUNG MINDS OF THIS. I HONESTLY NEVER BELIVED THAT NOT EVEN THE MOST GOD-HATING HEATHEN WOULD EVER THINK OF SOMETHING AS THIS..... BUT NOW MY EYES HAVE BEEN OPEN. WE MUST FIGHT AGAINST THIS SICKNESS! REPENT NOW AND THUMB UP THIS POST IF YOU AGREE AND DETEST SATAN AND EVERYTHING HE STANDS FOR, FOUND IN THIS HELLISH "MUSIC"!

  • @Iamcola65 Hi, i dont beliebe in god, but anyways i love satan, the fucking concept of satan is nice. He has no need to be adored ( being omnipotent), nor forces to abstain from natural things, which himself created.

  • @AKORDEONMUTANTE7 THIS IS THE KIND OF MECHANICAL BEHAVIOUR THIS JAP GIVES PEOPLE. LOOK AT HIM, HIS SPEECH IS ALMOST IN A ROBOTIC SHAPE, AND

  • @Iamcola65 Tell us moar.

  • @AKORDEONMUTANTE7 you cannot believe in satan and not believe in go you silly

  • @lumukanda Of course i can, it's called CHAOS.

  • Fuck the haters.

  • pretentious hipster garabe.

  • he looks like some guy from the matrix with his glasses on

  • high energy show

  • The public is sssssssoooooooooooooo excited

  • Laptop noise? What a poser! He should be up there banging pots and pans, playing an out of tune guitar and scraping nails on a chalk board.

  • Seeing him live must be something else.

  • Wow. They probably payed like 70 bucks to see some dude fuck around on a laptop

  • You people who say this is noise not music really need to grow up and stop commenting on youtube and pick up a book .Educate yourselves for god sakes . This man is a legend . Look up aesthetics in a philosophy book . You Consume whatever they feed you. They(advertising companies) Tell you what to say ,how to say it what to wear and yes what to like .Therefore it could be concluded you don't exist . Not to be negative . You may not like it .Oh poor you.Thats your life.Hitting the like button.READ

  • @rydubz7 Agreed. Read some art history (especially postmodern art and avant-garde culture), and especially read about the Dada movement. Read about anti-art movement. Noise is some form of anti-art in terms of context and intention but anti-art --eventhough how much ironic it may sound-- is art. Art has no boundaries, so as music. It's only limited with imagination, so stop quoting definitions of art and music from Webster, ffs. ._.

  • @TTunczz I Agree .Im very aware about Dada .Exept for that part were you say I was quouting webster as a definition for art .That comment was a sane mind ending with melting into a (but a I have to throw out a irrational insult at the end of the comment just to be "youtube proper") mentality .I personally dont like or dislike anything and believe all is art. Your comment seems a bit anti intellectual .At least at the end . Peace Blubber Pot and Ice cream .

  • @rydubz7 Well, the last sentence wasn't actually directed at you, it was directed to those who couldn't perceive this as art, or music. And my point about quoting Webster (I actually saw someone do this in a discussion before, heheh) is that it's not a good way to learn and define art by looking at a dictionary. You can only learn about the word and it's origin and linguistics of the word, not the context of the word 'art' by looking it up at a dictionary. It's my opinion, anyway.

  • @TTunczz This may be the first time this has been written on you tube . I Agree . I feel its important to not come to closure on ANY issue .To not label . Its the best defense mechanism from people like those in the media trying to tell you what reality is . When it gets to the arts this becomes even more so .Peace ,Blubber,Sex,Pot , Icecream , LSD,nuts , Bottle openers for president 2012 . Boy this is a sick exerpt Mr.Merzbow is playing . I wish More IDM fans would check him out . Tweedles .

  • @rydubz7 must be fun to be as pretentious as you. You do realise you sound like a total cliche, right?

  • @rydubz7 Just to make a specific recommendation, 'Noise/Music' by Paul Hegarty is a good read. I used it as a major source for a lot of my Uni work, most of which involved Merzbow (and 'Noise' more generally). Great read, excellent book.

  • @rydubz7 Its noise by definition isnt it? Embrace that.

  • @rydubz7 I was blind once, but now i can see.

  • @rydubz7 But...this isn't music...it IS noise...the genre is called "Noise"...?

  • @rydubz7 ...What if YOU'RE the one being conned and manipulated?

  • @rydubz7 Luciano Berio is a legend for example, not this shit, sorry

  • sick live performance sitting down haha..if someone could explain how im supposed to enjoy this shit i will gladly listen...

  • @harut93 I want to know too, is a little bit hard to understand this kind of music. Maybe you need to consume drugs or something, who knows?.

  • not proper working live-act...

    the music is quite ok..

i hoped to hear some good beat matches between the track's with some great mixing parts...

  • he's using a mac, hat pretty much explains everything

  • It's certainly art. but i prefer stuff that, ya know, has rhythm,

  • @MisterKiyoshi try it again at about 1:20, theres a rhythm

  • @Lichenecrostoso I could consider this as an abstract art. A unique form of art, but I really don't think this should be classified as music. Maybe I just don't understand it.

  • I would consider 1:14 music. It has a beat. A lot if this just seems like noise to me. I'm not trying to be mean, but I just really can't consider this to be music. A lot if it would be good for a horror movie or game, bun just as scary, ambient noise.

  • masonna>

  • This is complete shit..rather listen to soulja boy...fuck.

  • @Clerks0 WTF man, you don't even know me, why do you have to be offensive?? I just said what I think about Merzbow..if you don't like him, just don't watch his videos on youtube, nobody forces you!! Keep on listening to more conventional music, nobody gives a shit about your music tastes. And anyway, there are always a lot of people at the Merzbow's gigs, so probably the world is full of retarded people like me!! who cares..

  • @Lichenecrostoso I'm sorry :(

  • It's sad that noise is the most hated form of music out there, but then again it is anti-art.

  • @clerks0 if you don't want to call it music call it in another way, but it surely is art, you idiot. If you can't appreciate it, it's your problem. Try to open your mind and don't call me faggot again.

  • @Lichenecrostoso This is complete shit, you just don't understand "art" or music for that sake.

    You're a fucking retard.

  • This is one bar mitzvah i'll never forget.

  • Have you ever wondered how God worked with all of his retarded creations looking up at him wondering at his creations? This is it...

  • pero que mierda es esta ,,,,,=? malditos locos siempre inventando algo para ser cool y ellos mismo no se creen la mierda que hacen !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! una mierda jamas sera musica !

  • sound quality is good enough for me to appreciate this. Oh and to the people who don't like it... good. That's the point.

  • The song at 2:00 comes out in a video on toxic[]junction .com where it says 'most disturbing video ever' haha! Now I know where that creepy tune came from.. (by the way, the video displays a girl who's anorexic) i think Merzbow comes along fine with that video.. must watch! haha it's hypnotizing.

  • I call practical joke.

  • I'm really sorry for the people who can't understand this kind of music...you should try to open your mind a little bit...music, as every other kind of arts, must be explored in depth...I think Merzbow is an amazing artist

  • @Lichenecrostoso I sure hope you're joking, faggot.

Because this is some serious shit, this isn't music. And don't do dare calling this asshole an artist.

  • okay check it. if you dont think merzbow is music than you are simply narrow-minded, and you are to constricted by your own sense of what is what. you are the types that dont see the music in everything, like footsteps or driving mixed with weather and nature.. lets think of ti this way, every moment in life could have a song that is a soundtrack.. do you think radio rap or pop punk is gonna be at every moment... your so blind to what art can be... go listen to what your told hahaha

  • what kind of computer program is that what he makes his noises with?

  • This is probably what a god would listen to nowadays.

  • i hear music at 2:11 ;oooo

  • God damn Hipsters

  • Fucked bastards can't understand why this genre is great

  • He looks bored.

  • @Merzbowxnoise its not for fun

  • This isn't a musician , this is God you are witnessing , think yourself lucky.

  • lol at guy who shouts louder.

    LOUDAR.

    LOUDARRRRR!!!

And merz juts sits back up and turns it up. haha.

  • WOOHOOO!!

  • it is now not clear what does it mean music. :D

  • gary glitter is his number one fan

  • WTF?! This doesn't sound like Daft Punk? FUCKING GAY!

  • metursubau stop playing with your gameboy color

and that thing that goes EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAKKKKKRRRXXXXXXX

  • lol at the one fan shouting

  • Fuck you people, Merzbow is awesome :3

Also, lol'd at the guy shouting "louder". Merz inspired me to start making noise tracks and I still do it now. It's actually a really good way to vent creativity. Merz can do it better though, because he has an epic setup, and I have audacity and a few plugins. :3

  • @xPikaWolfx you dont need an epic setup. i have a pretty minimalistic setup, and i dont mean to pat myself on the back, but i can make some damn good noise with the few pedals i have.

you can find some cheap pedals, and a small practice amp on ebay. hook it all up to a tape player, or a microphone, just anything that will output sound, and make some killer tracks.

  • @iamthegirlfriend I like to use either software or have a massive ass setup.

  • @iamthegirlfriend I like to use either software or have a massive ass setup. makes it feel more "involved". Like I'm making the noise, and not like I've just plugged it in and left it..

  • @HyRSiWOLF I know what you mean. Im the same way, but with a minimal setup. I use a guitar as my sound source, and only three pedals. I pretty much beat the hell out of my guitar for 15 minutes when i play live. So my stuff is far from just turning on my gear and standing back. When im done playing im sweating, and breathing heavily, and usually have a headache for the rest of the night from beating myself up.

  • The crowd are fucking wild! what a gig!

  • "I'm a musician"

"Really? Can I hear some of your music?"

    KKKSSSHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

  • @mugofdoom Merzbow is noise, not music

  • @RockStar100500 Noise is considered a genre of music.

  • @mugofdoom no, all music is noises

  • @Rapchaid The statement goes either way, both are correct.

  • @RockStar100500 baaaadly made point

  • woah man i love this guys music! it's so catchy! he also has such great stage presence

  • @ellojello5896

    lololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololoololololololol

  • Awesome! Thanks for posting this!

  • Merzbow is hillarious and awesome

  • I love Merzbow... but why would anyone pay to watch a guy play a computer? Such a boring concert... no stage presence or anything.

  • @19Mikael92 So true. Merzbow is second to none in noise, but my god he is such a boring musician to watch.

  • @Daedali1 Isn't all of this stuff all improvised? Then I would think the reason people go to see the guy is that they are fans of his work and would like to hear some new stuff, really really loud.

  • @19Mikael92 He doesn't perform any differently to big electro acts like Justice, aside from the stage set. The only difference is you can't really dance to this.

  • @19Mikael92 Just because he isn't jumping around or shaking his ass doesn't meat its boring. Did Bach need to jump around? No. People can enjoy it for the music. I can understand if this isn't your taste in music but for those of us that like noise this is a wonderful set.

  • @Reojo Yeah, I bet it's easy to understand why we don't like it. It's not music

  • @theoriginalemoninja and what do you think give you the right to define what music is and what not? there are people who say metal is not musc. there are people who say hip hop is not music. there might be people who say jazz is not music. and in the end theyre all pointless idiots because they don't know shit. and you are not any better.

  • @Metalwurst666 What gives me the right? The definition of music gives me the right. If he wants to make a bunch of noise, package it, and sell it as his heart and soul that's fine with me, but it's not music and shouldn't be labeled as such.

  • @theoriginalemoninja so what is the definition of music according to you?

  • What's the board that he has a bunch of stuff plugged into to the left (right in the video) of his laptop? Is it a sampler or some kind of looper?

  • Noise is dead? What the fuck dude...

    Seriously.

  • @VinterVandring I'm sorry i retire my words..

Noise is not dead but not very alive too :S

  • Is it pronounced Merz-boh or Merz-baow?

  • @ignoranttwat

It's Merz-baow. I know because the japanese spelling of it, and all japanese is written phonetically so there can only be a certain way to pronounce it.

  • Who knows the name of the track which plays from 1:20? Amazing Dark Minimal Techno.

  • 00:29 is my favourite part.

  • the world needs merzbow!

  • @noisesionoise - Yes! Not enough people appreciate the perpetual eargasm that is Merzbow!!!!!

  • yeah he really knows how to make a show of it :\

  • Whether or not you enjoy this doesn't make it music, mainly because it contains no musical elements.

I know that it's possible to classify something as music or "not music" based on whether or not you enjoy it, but that's usually because it was music in the first place lolol

The only reason I can think of as to why people consider this to be music is because there are CDs of it.

NEWS FLASH, GUYS!! A combination of different noises =/= music!

  • Dead dudes are not the only ones who get to decide what musical elements are.

  • You're right. That's why we have men who are alive and well that study music and HAVE been studying it for years.

Without structure and certain elements, all music is just "noise".

I think people are getting the wrong impression that, because I am implying this is not music, I am therefore saying this isn't enjoyable to anyone and is just merely garbage.

I honestly don't care for this stuff, but I never said it sucked. I just don't believe it's music.

  • @BLACKDOTSx

I was going to ask you to define "music", but I see that you have sort of said it can't be done, and you compare it to defining "art" (I think...tell me if I'm wrong). I went to an exhibition the other night where a woman had taken a dead fox, put it on a table and covered it in salt. In that context (that of an art gallery) it is art, just as...

  • ...this (in context, thought considering the means by which it was created it is impossible to take it out of context) is music. The point is that what makes something art or music is purely the will for it to be so.

  • "art is anything you can get away with" -andy warhol. Considering music is a form of art, this is music, because Merzbow, and music concrete musicians have been doing it since the 50's. You do not make the standards of what is and isn't music

  • Neither does Andy Warhol, lol

I'll admit that no one can really define artwork, but you can to a certain point.

According to definitions and guidelines, this isn't music.

Just because you enjoy the sounds doesn't mean it's music, you know.

  • Who cares if it's music or not, I think it's not really the matter there.

Though, I don't agree with your statement.

  • You're right, who cares?

No one is imposing on your right to listen to and enjoy this...at least, those weren't my intentions.

I'm merely saying how this isn't music. Enjoying a certain pattern of sounds doesn't really make something music.

It was called "noise" for a reason. I don't know why people incorporated this into music and made a genre of it.

  • I think that it can be called music along with genres like "concrete" music.

Then it is not conventional music. Some people also say that hip-hop or blac-metal is not music , due to the same reasons.

  • @BLACKDOTSx

It is actually music. It contains elements that deffine music, even though they aren't commonly used. Cacaphony, dissonance, feedback. You seem to only not want to classify it as music because you're afraid of it. You continue to lack the information to convince me and the others that this isn't music.

  • What would you say about Schönberg or Varèse or Cage? Is this music or not? And if it's not, then you are denying over a century of music history.

  • it took me a long time to understand free jazz, Coleman and Coltrane, and ealry 70s Beefheart, and electronica (and guys who like this who could be just checking their email) - but when you do "get it" it opens you up to new experience. There's no rationalization for those things we love. I still can't eat much seafood, seafood lovers pity me! IT's an acquired taste!

  • Pretty weak. Not very entertaining watching a guy sit behind his laptop(s).

It was so much cooler when he used to actually generate noise by banging shit together, used guitar pedals, and played weird instruments that he created.

Some of the art is lost.

  • Some of the aesthetics are lost, but the same processes of creation are going on inside his head, behind the scenes. He's just using less spectacular tools.

  • @methengine banging washer basins has its place, but i disagree that art is lost, at least not in musical terms. entertainment value, definately lost... his banging and messing with wierd tools created a sense of immediacy. But like, Autechre just press buttons and tweak knobs in the dark, and its amazing; if i got a chance to see Merzbow, I'd be content to just absorb the sounds.

  • not really a merzbow fan but this sounded pretty tight

  • im seriously curious wat people see/hear in this

  • It appeals to you in a way which other music doesn't in your brain doesn't follow standard appeciative valuing of pitch, rhythm etc, it's purely textural and almost takes on a physicality in which the relationship between you and the music is absolute. That's as best as I can put it. It's like the belly rumble you get feeling the sub-bass thuds in a club, purified.

  • i don't get Merz

  • Merzbow IS music. Really, really awful music.

  • Все кому не нравится Merzbow сосите хуи ублюдки тупорылые

  • lol @ asian guy sitting at computer desk making sound effects while people take pictures and gaze in awe

  • ihope this was better live lol

  • I think this MUSIC is as dynamic as his FACE while performing. I love a very noisy song 'soup' on CANs ege bamjasi LP on 72. Very feedbacking rough sound, but with more emotional energy and Damo Suzuki shouting. Was that the beginning of Japanoise?

  • you don't need to argue

    just get the fuck out.

  • how about you suck a dick and mind your own business.. i'll say whatever the fuck i feel like.

  • how about a nice cup of shut the fuck up?

    peace man ^^

  • That's why they call it noise, DUMbAsss

  • someone needs to kill THIS guy so he can stop arguing with people over whether or not this is music. THIS IS FUCKING MUSIC!! THIS IS ABSOLUTE AWESOME!

  • "all music is just meaningless sound before it reaches recieving ears"

grow up, stop slagging off music that your brain is too small to comprehend.

  • Whether or not it's music, you're a fucking idiot.

  • i wish his pc would break so he could go back to his good ol' days lol

  • Hes a reall relaxed man and he seemed to be a nice guy.

Hes maybe the only really relaxed Japanoise-Artist.

All the other are so anarchistic and aggressiv.

  • he looks bored

  • Some of the sound dynamics and layering this guy comes up with are actually pretty decent and damn near fuck with yr. head or something.

  • LOUDER!

    LOUDEEER!

  • he looks so calm and composed when he does it live, very cool

  • Reading at the comments below if people think this is 'fucking shit' don't listen to this and make pointless unconstructive comments.

    Any an incredible

  • @ZebraMu

    I agree.

    But you know something?

    "fucking shit"

  • no one pays to see you!... cunts! lol

  • thats why u have to pay 200Dollars for some of his CDs -.-
