I remember being taught about plumbism when i worked at a zinc refinery. plumbism = lead poisoning. I pretty sure the toys or whatever have small traces or lead because the pipes that are used to transport the items are made of lead. The other intresting thing about lead poisoning is that it makes you go crazy. In medieval times some kings and queens went crazy because they had lead piping( drinking water.
Well, I'm also too lazy to check out the real answers online. But that has never stopped me before from expressing an opinion.
Like jessissinging said, lead is used in paint. It is also used in alloys, like the solder that glues wires and components inside your tv and computer. That is super bad because it's made of lead and mercury, which is also super poisonous!
As a Mexican myself, I can tell you that in Mexico we eat a lot of lead and make you guys abroad also eat lots of yummy lead because our tin pots and pans are lined with a lead-based enamel. Also we use a lot of earthenware that is rich in lead, which is then glased in that same lead-rich enamel.
Mexican families enjoy eating pinto beans boiled for hours in said clay pots (which gives the beans a sweet taste) thus ensuring that our kids don't miss out on lead's wholesome goodness. So if your Mexican candy has lead in it, now you know it came from the cookware! Aren't you glad you asked?!
I just remembered that we also put lead in gasoline, idky. So part of the exhaust gases, and consequently of the dust on streets and suspended on the air has lead. There's also a metal foundry near my house that emmits lead pollution who knows why. I think they extract copper and maybe they use the lead to remove the copper from the ore or something.
Ha, I am glad I asked! Thank you for being so informative! All of this outsourcing is scary stuff, I just can't understand why traces of lead and salmonella are the only things people see as a danger, it's just always on the news. Lead's wholesome goodness, haha, you're funny.
I did hear about that and it's insane! I read the comments below and wow.
I can understand why it's used in paint, but other than that...in chocolate? Interesting to hear about the industrial polution being the cause of it in Mexico.
Love your vids. yOu always bring up interesting convos. Good on you:)
stuff like lead gets into the water table and then into the food. But so far all I've heard of is candy made from the tamarind root. I'm no expert by the way.
The funny thing is that the lead is chemically bonded inside the toys...the only way to get exposure is to chew it and break it down.... so how about feeding kids food?

I could listen to you say "lead" all day. It's the way it rolls off your tongue like a river of hot, molten lead, lead, LEAD !!!!!

A big block of lead is good as a paper weight or door stopper.

As far as I know. Lead in food from Mexico is the result of industrial pollution. Lead is used in paint because it makes the colors really vivid.

I knew about the paint, as for the food, thanks man.
