im not a fan of womens wrestling. it seems like in every match its full of botches and poorly executed moves. and i don't think its about taking womens matches off PPV but taking matches you know thats gonna suck off the PPV. i mean if you're gonna have alyssa flash vs tara or Cody Deaner vs Rob Terry then i would take the womens match any day. they just need to put the right ones on PPV the ones that will be good i mean people are actually paying for this stuff.
I agree about Joshi being a major influence on the present day Light/cruiserweight style. I've never understood why TNA didnt go after this style durring its early days when they pushed the X division so much, it would have made alot of sense to push a womens verson as well

I personally could care less about a wrestler looking attractive, as long as they look interesting as a character. Wrestlers like Mick Foley and Vader weren't attractive but they had the right look to get over. Thats the way women's wrestling should be.
I think that Doug came off very sexist and disrespectful to the hard working women in wrestling by saying they have NO place in pro wrestling. I think that's bull. Ok, Heres my opinion: Like Truth Slayer said, The womens division is not what it once was. Only because they aren't taking as much chances as they used to. And they're making bad choices, They only look at the looks of the women. Yes once in a while you do get the sexy yet good wrestlers. But Doug is wrong. Women don't belong on a different brand or valets. All they need to do is promote and take more chances. You never see another match like Trish and Lita, Or Trish and Jazz.

The avg rating on this vid is kinda low, but I thought this was a really good video tslay. The female World X Cup idea would appeal to me a lot (even though Joshi is pretty poor at the moment) and could be quite a distinguishing feature for TNA to be different (in a good way) from the WWE - especially important if the Monday Night War revisited rumours come into fruition.

There will always be certain maneuvers that men can perform better than women. Personally, I love seeing the talented women wrestlers like Awesome Kong, Sarita, Gail KIm, and Beth Phoenix compete.
When the good ones are actually allowed to try and put on a good match it usually succeeds. The problem is that they are mostly just used for soft porn eye candy, which gets old rather fast.

Now I understand models who don't have real wrestling ability have no business in the ring, but there are atleast a handful of women wrestler out there you have to give credit to. 1 Lacey Von Erich is a bad example when Lacey Von Erich is nothing more than a glorified Kelly Kelly only with a famous wrestling name attached. But come on, women like Awesome Kong are much better in the ring than most men in TNA, especially men like Kevin Nash who can't even lace Kong's boots

I don't see why TNA needs more women. Why not just let the crappy girls (Beautiful People, Christy, etc) stay on the sidelines as valets or whatever, and allow the girls who can go actually go for longer. They already have enough KOs.
Older joshi may be good, but I personally think it is a bit overrated. I would much rather watch Kobashi/Misawa/Kawada/Taue than anything the women did even at their best.
Current joshi is pretty poor from what I've seen, yet I've still seen people praise it like it is the greatest thing ever.
I am also sexist though, so that probably plays a big part in my preference. I believe male wrestling will always be superior and I could never get as emotionally involved in a female match.

I hate the fact that they bring in Lacey Von Erich, no doubt she's drop-dead gorgeous, but she's just as bad if not worse than Kelly Kelly in the ring. I don't mind keeping her as a valet kind of like So-Cal Val, but other than that she should not be wrestling, unless she suddenly gets good, and at this point, I can't see that happening.
It looked like they were feeling each other out through most of the most. I believe it was the first time they've faced each other. As they get to know each other more in the ring, the quality will improve.

Kim leaving was the end of the knockout division to me, apart from Flash who looks strong, believable and talented and i believe what she does unlike all the other weak looking and fake knockouts. Flash looks awesome, and like a pro wrestler. Sarita looks like a teenage boy.
I have to agree with you. The women wrestling of the 80's the wrestling of today is completely different. Like you said, WWE only hires models and then tries turning them into active wrestlers. People's view of women wrestling is screwed up today because of the way WWE uses their "divas". I get what he's saying. I think the women would benefit greatly from some sort of boot-camp for pro wrestling. Take them all off T.V.... hell, make it an angle, and teach them how to make it LOOK real. If it looks fake, thats it. Completely ruins just about everything that can take place after it, ruins what happened before it, and in some cases ruins what happens in other matches... I like some women, Hamada is REALLY catching on with me, for instance, but some are completely unwatchable.

Truth.. i was woundering if you remember GLOW wrestling back in the 80's ? if not ,it was a pure womens wrestling organization wich was some what good,but only had a short run. AWA's Sherri Martel ruled,even though i understand Moolah may have been the best womens wrestler over all women,if you ask me....Sherri would be next.
If he took charge of TNA today, it would get sued out of business tomorrow. If he scrapes the KO division simply because he doesn't think the women can go as well as the men, the Knockouts would WIN a class action case against him.
After all, the knockouts provide ratings, and that's all that matters in wrestling.
And yet TNA keeps building more to the next Impact rather than focusing on selling us on the pay-per-view and focusing on the pay-per-view.
It also doesn't make sense that they didn't do more house show dates prior to 2007, and nearly dying on the weekly pay-per-view deal and the FSN deal that really tried to kill them.
Ratings have nothing to do with marketing, you can have a lot of people watching you but if you don't convince them to order the pay per view or buy the T-shirts then you aren't going to make any money off of it. WWE at 3.0 ratings makes more money than WWF did at 6.0 ratings in America because they're ultimate DVD/merchandise selling publicly funded winners of doom now.
Ratings have EVERYTHING to do with sales! How do you think sitcoms that don't sell merchandise or DVDs get paid?
The network pays the show an amount based on the ratings that show pulls, just like how wrestling promotions pay wrestlers based on how much money they can make the company!
Except, the networks buy most of the shows as they're produced outside of the network's company structure (thus why most shows are "pitched" and sold around on circuits). They get a cut based on testing markets first, not based on any perception of ratings but rather how they scored with test audiences (in a way you could argue this would be where they get their perception for the ratings). Then you take into it all the advertising dollar which carries more weight than actual rating figures.
Again, not necessarily, because a show could put up poor overall ratings but still get huge advertisement because it does extremely well with a key demographic that certain other shows in their time slot don't do as well with.
Also, the share is the real important number to most networks because it tells the tale of how many viewers were watching during a given block, and displays what demographic they did well with.
So the ratings aren't the end all and be all of the television world.
Your leaving out ad revenue which is also much more profitable if the ratings are high, and yes you are right, that is true of shows that don't sell merchandise or DVDs, but TNA isn't that limited, they do Pay Per Views because that's where the real money is. They're going to make a hell of a lot more money if they get good ppv buy rates and bad ratings than if they have good ratings and shit buy rates. The same is true for DVD sales.
However, if TNA neglected ratings in favor of promoting their PPVs, they risk getting Impact canceled, and then, they're right back where they were in the Summer of 2005.
No, instead, TNA should abolish its PPVs altogether, and do the style fo writing they had in the weekly PPVs. Then, there's no conflict of interest.
I'm not saying neglect ratings, ratings don't need maintenance, just put on a good show and most people will come back for next week. Like I said, Pay Per View is where the real money is, just putting on a televised show with no ppv's isn't going to help them, no matter how much money they can make from network and ad revenue, it's still not as good as they can do if they're successful at DVD and PPV sales. And that's why I say ratings are overrated, because it's about making the most money.
Actually, there kind of would if the decision was based on any sort of discriminatory issue, such as firing based on race, religion, sexuality, political beliefs and so on and so forth.

Personally I feel Women can put on just as entertaining matches as Men but I do feel there is nothing in particular that Women have to offer thats ne different to make me watch them over Men. I don't see why TNA needs more women. Why not just let the crappy girls (Beautiful People, Christy, etc) stay on the sidelines as valets or whatever, and allow the girls who can go actually go for longer. They already have enough KOs.

Older joshi may be good, but I personally think it is a bit overrated. I would much rather watch Kobashi/Misawa/Kawada/Taue than anything the women did even at their best.
Current joshi is pretty poor from what I've seen, yet I've still seen people praise it like it is the greatest thing ever.
I am also sexist though, so that probably plays a big part in my preference. I believe male wrestling will always be superior and I could never get as emotionally involved in a female match.

That's about it.
I hate the fact that they bring in Lacey Von Erich, no doubt she's drop-dead gorgeous, but she's just as bad if not worse than Kelly Kelly in the ring. I don't mind keeping her as a valet kind of like So-Cal Val, but other than that she should not be wrestling, unless she suddenly gets good, and at this point, I can't see that happening.

Kim leaving was the end of the knockout division to me, apart from Flash who looks strong, believable and talented and i believe what she does unlike all the other weak looking and fake knockouts. Flash looks awesome, and like a pro wrestler. Sarita looks like a teenage boy.

I have to agree with you. The women wrestling of the 80's the wrestling of today is completely different. Like you said, WWE only hires models and then tries turning them into active wrestlers. People's view of women wrestling is screwed up today because of the way WWE uses their "divas". The mainstream audience doesn't really understand that women wrestling today is a lot of what Doug said... it's just bad. His choice of words could have been different, absolutely. I'm sure he think so now too.

I get what he's saying. I think the women would benefit greatly from some sort of boot-camp for pro wrestling. Take them all off T.V.... hell, make it an angle, and teach them how to make it LOOK real. If it looks fake, thats it. Completely ruins just about everything that can take place after it, ruins what happened before it, and in some cases ruins what happens in other matches... I like some women, Hamada is REALLY catching on with me, for instance, but some are completely unwatchable.

If he took charge of TNA today, it would get sued out of business tomorrow. If he scrapes the KO division simply because he doesn't think the women can go as well as the men, the Knockouts would WIN a class action case against him.
After all, the knockouts provide ratings, and that's all that matters in wrestling.

It also doesn't make sense that they didn't do more house show dates prior to 2007, and nearly dying on the weekly pay-per-view deal and the FSN deal that really tried to kill them.

Ratings have nothing to do with marketing, you can have a lot of people watching you but if you don't convince them to order the pay per view or buy the T-shirts then you aren't going to make any money off of it. WWE at 3.0 ratings makes more money than WWF did at 6.0 ratings in America because they're ultimate DVD/merchandise selling publicly funded winners of doom now.

The network pays the show an amount based on the ratings that show pulls, just like how wrestling promotions pay wrestlers based on how much money they can make the company!

Except, the networks buy most of the shows as they're produced outside of the network's company structure (thus why most shows are "pitched" and sold around on circuits). They get a cut based on testing markets first, not based on any perception of ratings but rather how they scored with test audiences (in a way you could argue this would be where they get their perception for the ratings). Then you take into it all the advertising dollar which carries more weight than actual rating figures.

Yes, the networks and the shows have a contract for a set amount of money, based on the predicted ratings during the contracts' term.
Just like how a wrestler has a fixed paycheck based on the expected profit he'll bring the promotion during the term of that contract.
After the contract is up, they can renegotiate pay and terms. both wrestler and promotion, and show and network.

Again, not necessarily, because a show could put up poor overall ratings but still get huge advertisement because it does extremely well with a key demographic that certain other shows in their time slot don't do as well with.
Also, the share is the real important number to most networks because it tells the tale of how many viewers were watching during a given block, and displays what demographic they did well with.
So the ratings aren't the end all and be all of the television world.

Your leaving out ad revenue which is also much more profitable if the ratings are high, and yes you are right, that is true of shows that don't sell merchandise or DVDs, but TNA isn't that limited, they do Pay Per Views because that's where the real money is. They're going to make a hell of a lot more money if they get good ppv buy rates and bad ratings than if they have good ratings and shit buy rates. The same is true for DVD sales.

However, if TNA neglected ratings in favor of promoting their PPVs, they risk getting Impact canceled, and then, they're right back where they were in the Summer of 2005.
No, instead, TNA should abolish its PPVs altogether, and do the style fo writing they had in the weekly PPVs. Then, there's no conflict of interest.

I'm not saying neglect ratings, ratings don't need maintenance, just put on a good show and most people will come back for next week. Like I said, Pay Per View is where the real money is, just putting on a televised show with no ppv's isn't going to help them, no matter how much money they can make from network and ad revenue, it's still not as good as they can do if they're successful at DVD and PPV sales. And that's why I say ratings are overrated, because it's about making the most money.

He based his comments on the 2 KO matches at Bound for Glory, right? Thing is...had Angelina still been with TBP and if TNA hadn't thrown in that confusing Kim Couture attack in the Kong/Tara/ODB match, he probably wouldn't have had a complaint. The Alyssa/Hamada match from 2 weeks ago and the Alyssa/Tara match from tonight were really good. Heck, I even liked the 6 woman match from tonight until Lacey came in and half-assed a move for a horrible finish.

I don't know, I would probably agree with you if at any point in the video he suggested that the knockouts need to get better/TNA needs to get better woman's wrestlers if they want to have a place amongst the men, but his two options for solving his problem were to either get rid of the division or give them their own show for "people who like to watch that crap." Still skepticism kicks the worlds ass so I'll keep thinking about what you said, it's always better to have a devils advocate anyway.
