  • $1800 more for a full frame sensor and better ISO sensitivity?. I would rather get good lens and photoshop :).

  • Great comparison and footage! Those are the kinds of things that we amateurs take time to learn about. It's so great to see that knowledge shared, thanks a lot!

  • I'm getting the OLD Canon 600 (no D) plus 2 lenses (75-300mm and 35-75mm) for only 200€!!

  • Filmriot = awesome

  • How in the world do you export to such good quality? Is the 5D just that good? Or am I missing something? And what lens are you using??

  • 44 peaple just bought a 5D

  • i have a t2i :c

  • Was about to upgrade from t2i to either 60d or 5d mk II. Came across a ton of info on the Panny GH2. There is a firmware hack available which makes this $800 camera outshine the canon DSLR's. Waiting on a set of nice primes, including the Voigtlander 25mm/f.95. I won't be able to compare a 5d, but I will compare the t2i, although there are plenty of comparisons on youtube and eoshd already.

  • @JPortoProducer Omg, thank you... Didn't know about the GH2 with the amazing hack.

  • @PlayfullWithFire No Problem!

  • Did you use a steady cam or tripod to shoot the vacation?

  • People should learn about the "Picture Profile". That improve a lot the video quality and can make the T2i look sharp as the 5D Mark II looks, because both have the same DIGIC-4 chip. Off course the 5D is "THE CAMERA" but the T2i are pretty close and in the right hands with the right lens, it's just perfect.

  • @segr3do If you have to sharpen a T2i image to match a default image from the 5D, then the 5D still has more headroom for increasing sharpness.

The biggest difference in terms of image quality between the two cameras is captured detail and low light performance. They may use the same processor, but the sensor in the 5D is notably larger. More detail, less noise, and a smaller depth of field.

Not a big difference for most people, but important enough for those serious about photography.

  • @ApeIncognito Agreed. Like I said, the 5D is "The Camera" for all the reasons that you explained very well, but in my personal opinion, I really think the T2i is a very good camera too. Some of the "bad sides" of T2i, like noise on high ISO, we can fix a lot with great soft and plugins. A great post-production can make the difference between both really hard to see on print size... but don't get me wrong, 5D Mark II is one of the Top, for sure. But it's amazing a Pro camera vs an Entry Level.

  • its all about eyes.

  • i use a T2i 550D for my video shots, but i would like to know, an old 20D that i use it as a photo shoots will it be any better? cause i would like to know its quality between 550D and 20D in photo shooting quality ^^ thank you in advance Mr.Dave^^

  • BEST EXPLANATION YET! I'VE BEEN TRYING TO READ FORUMS AND WATCH VIDEOS SINCE 8:00 P.M. Best comparison thank you and I will have some questions. I'm super new to photography and cinematography.

  • 7D is the one to get

  • Having used both, the 5D has much more dynamic and crisp video and performs better in most low light situations; plus it's weather proof -A MUST for any sort of real cinematography.

Now that the price of the 5D has dropped significantly, more people should be able to pick up one up.

And yes..the most important factor is the GLASS! Buy good lenses! Kit lenses are crap for video. Period.

  • 2:30 Look at the background bokeh effect between the two. 5D better in more shallow depth of field.(off topic) Consider the age difference between the two :) If 5d is this good at this age imagine what 5d mark III will look like when it comes out.

  • I am quite surprised with this review, I own a 550D but have trouble with the film recording (stops randomly, NOT a memory card issue, a model issue according to jessops) and even playing with the 5D in store got me all excited. My money is probably better spent on new lenses for now but I still feel a 5D could be in the cards in the future.

  • '

how come both cameras cannot do that depth of field

  • lol creppy

  • what type of lense are you using for the footage at the end? it looks like a movie! the quality is awesome and im trying to get that quality with my T3i

  • the 5-d has better noise handling, more pixels, weather sealing, all that jazz. but i think i might get the 7d for the high continuous shooting rate and the 60p video frame rate and the lower price. yeya

  • i think im in love with the girl

  • I love my Canon T2i. I feel it is the best "bang for the buck" camera on the market. It is not the best camera on the market, but it is really an awesome camera for the price. As the video showed there are advantages to the more professional models, but the quality difference is minimal compared to the price difference. Some day I'll get a professional model and I might change my opinion :)

  • @nevadaxtube I Feel the same with my T3i. It may not be a 5D Mark II. But the sensor in my T3i is Way bigger than the one in my Sony HC-7 HD Camcorder. Plus that only took 4Megapixel stills not 18mrgapixel stills. I just need to get used to shooting video with it. SInce thats what I got it for.

  • such a great video! thanks for posting this!

  • what's the background sound of this video on the latter part?

  • Your voice sounds like Matt from MattsMacintosh.

  • Can you get pictures almost like the 5d but with the t2i and really good lens?

  • @BenjaminLucky13 Lenses make all the diffrence. I shoot using old Minolta lenses on my T3i.

  • Great job! You should shoot a commercial for these guys

  • thank you for this video.... I have a T3i and I use it primarily for video and I'm very happy with it. I know the 5D has a bigger sensor and makes it better in low light but can that difference be faked on a t3i if a better glass like a 24-70mm was used?

  • u look so much like god on this video godam quality

  • Is 5D Mark III really coming or just a rumor-hype ?

  • @Boodhunnilesh It's true. Autofocus is on the way friend

  • I USE A 5MP WEBCAM

  • Thanks, great review and creativity. Are Canon cameras better than Nikons when it comes to video?

  • @bassivity As a general rule most definitely

  • On the studio tests the T2i looked best, imho. It was kind of like using a diffusion filter. The 5d picked up and amplified every blemish. I'm sure this can be fixed in post. Outdoors, the 5D was outstanding. FWIW To Hell and Back Again, nominated for an academy award, was shot entirely with a 5d.

  • Thank you:D Subscribed

  • The Best - Sony HX100V

  • T2i plus lenses cost so much less compared to the 5D Mark II and that's why I think it's better. Until people make feature films on the big screen (Where the 5D has been used for before) I'd say the T2i is great.

  • @NElangbam Couldnt agree more. For anyone starting out in video, the the T2i is great and you can use the savings for lens.

  • I've owned both cameras. The 5D Mark II is far superior especially in low light. Good glass performs much better on the 5D Mark II. Manual control of audio on the 5D, not so on the T2i.

  • Thanks for the video

    -wefilm4you-

  • personally i came from a T2i .. actually bought a 5D

As a professional photographer i choose the 5D all the way ..

Images are much more detailed, full frame sensor, really good at hight iso and the 21MP sensor really helps with images like portraits.

But for amateur video and picture taking i confirm what you say .. you really must zoom in 100% to see the difference, and an amateur will never do that so ..

    a 5D don't worth the costs

  • @akagodofheaven great comment, thanks for taking the time to write.

  • @akagodofheaven HI, ONE QUESTION, THIS CAMARA 5D, WHAT'S THE QUALITY IN VIDEO? 1920 X 1080? I HAVE SOME FULL HD CAMARAS, PANASONIC AND SONY.. BUT I HEARD ALOT OF THIS MACARA. CAN YOU TELL ME PLEASE... THANKS

  • @TheHjavi The Canon 5D Mk II is able to shoot in 1080p at 30, 25 and 24 fps. And at 720p at 60 fps. The Canon 550D/T2i is able to shoot at the same settings.

The main difference between the two is that the 5D is a full-frame camera with better low-light capabilities and thinner depth of field. Where as the 550D have a cropped sensor.

  • Make that chart with crayons?

  • Hey, thanks a lot for this review. As a current owner of a T2i who is thinking about upgrading to a 5D, I found it extremely helpful.

  • get a L-series or prime lense. ditch the sigma.

  • Comment removed

  • its all about the glass

  • @jackrabbittt333 For photos, not video

  • @jackrabbittt333 True true. I am quite happy with my Canon 24-85 USM on the 60D.

    Watch:

21E - Revere 525 Beach Street EPA Hazardous CERCLA Nuisance Pt.3: Gasoline remix.

    Peace.

  • Very nice comparison! I wish there was one like this with the 60D and the 5D MK2.

I know there are comparisons out there, but not side-by-side.

  • Awesome Vid man....I'll be checking out your other vids as well....keep them coming!

  • Is it me or do the t2i looks better?...

  • @olofberggren its just you

  • @olofberggren I thought so. Accept for the low light tests...

  • Thanks for the comparison. It's nice to see the same footage side by side.

  • the real difference is in photos... of course.

  • i ordered the t2i today, i'm so glad i came across ur video, now i really cant wait to get the t2i!

  • what the name of the program that u use for edting the vido plz

  • well the clarity is much more depending on the lens than the camera

if you want a soft image get a soft lens, or de-focus a tiny bit with a sharp lens

also the main advantage of the canon 5d ii is that a full frame sensor will allow for more shallow depth of field than the crop-camera t2i.

Keep in mind the bigger a sensor gets the poorer the price/performance ratio.

because larger sensor production has a much lower keeper-rate which drastically increases price.

  • Did you met Stephen King? :-)

  • What lens are you using to achieve a f1.4?

  • Great video! T2I! And I love the footage of coastal Maine. God, I miss Camden.

  • Can you tell me what software you used to encode the 5d footage to use in Premiere Pro? I'm stuck between using Neoscene and AME. It's my first time editing 5d in Premiere Pro and based on what I've read, it could be a challenge.

  • I like soft skin.

  • What do you think is better Canon 5D mkII, Nikon D7000, or Nikon D700

  • thumbs up if you were looking at tits at 2:30.

  • @Blackberryboy24 From that alone, I'd say the t2i is a much more boob friendly camera.

  • You may need to look at the Nikon d700. It's full frame along with lower pixel (12mp) count give it ability that no other slr offer: super natural low light ability

The low pixel, resulting in larger larger photon gathering site, is something that need to be felt.

Since you're an established Youtuber, you can afford to rent one of these from a pro store from any major city. w-doddcamera-com does mail order rental, see if they have one for rent.

I'm curious to see how D700 compare.

  • the DOF will always tell you away when comparing aps-c to full frame. there is no escaping geometry and light path !

  • I think the 550d and 7d are more comparable as cameras.

And i would have liked to see a RAW straight from camera test, in that 550d-7d test thats really where the 550d shines over the 7d.

But still i definetly thing the video is a great surprise, as i rarely use it, but it looks great.

For this i really want a 5d. When i come into money, but im happy with my 550 for now!

  • I think maybe the 550d and 7d are more comparable as that amateur crossing into pro.

I would have liked to see a RAW straight from the camera comparison, as thats where the 550d shines over the 7d.

The amount of arguments ive had over that, and my point is always the same, why the HELL would you need 10fps? Unless you are a bad photographer...I could live with 3 fps. or even 2...

Anyways, i definitely want a 5d. Although they will hold value long after the Mk3 and X1 comes out.

  • Thank you,you saved me a lot of money. I'll take the T2i... thanks!

  • So I am actually planning on getting the Canon 5D mark ii in a few weeks but when will the Canon 5D mark iii come out???? Anyone???

  • hey dave what do you think aout canon t2i and panasonic GH1

  • This told me everything I needed to know. Thanks

  • In the first test the 5d's subject looks better because you're using an 85mm lens. On the crop camera your using a 50mm lens to get the same field of view (80mm equal), but you retain the 50mm perspective. Nothing do to with your test in that shot, but it gives the full frame camera an advantage in that situation.

  • @Canon60d you're dead on!

  • 2:38 It's weird how the background shifts when the foreground object enters... I wonder if that's a side effect of compression, where the background is being replicated?

  • I kinda agree with Ryan. I see more saturation in the T2i. The 5D gives you more dynamic range and shallow depth of field in the video.

  • One is full frame... one is not.. one is 21 mp.. the other is 18... I promise you you'll get great video either way.. However, people DO NOT BE FOOLED by Nikon's video.. It doesn't look good. You have to edit it like crazy to make it look right.. I'm not shooting down Nikon being I used Nikon for photography for years, however, I truly believe that Canon is the top in the industry for both photography and videography.

  • i want the t2i

  • Thank you for this video. You have the most beautiful pictures from 5D. You seems do have the best use with DSLR cameras. What do you think about Lumix Gh2? Do you think to test it against a 5D?

  • 5:05 Philippine flag. gyeah..

  • very smart dud

  • Brilliant comparison!

  • i've been using 550d (t2i) for over a year now. I think you should shoot some place dark with lightings further away from the subject, for example streets at night, and use f2.8 lenses with normal zoom lens. Try to bump the ISO and i bet 550d will lose miserably even on iso 800 and above. It's very frustrating on low light conditions, your low light seems ok coz the light is so close to your face dale, i can upload a video showing how miserable 550d is on low light compared to 5D in videos.

  • wow... great video

  • So I have had my 5D since christmas, and, in bright light, it looks absolutely stunning (as it should do). But when I get down to slightly lower levels of light, the picture quality is unbearably grainy. I've been looking for a solution, but nobody seems to be having that problem. So I've concluded that it must be something simple I'm missing. Could somebody please go over the steps they take in order to acheive a great low-light image, so I could pinpoint exactly what the problem is? Thanks.

  • @hpathbp25 I can just tell you that it happened to me the same with a Nikon D7000 and I was told that the problem is simply the driver. So probably just an easy to fix software problem and not an hardware one...

  • T2i all the way!!!!!!! I love it!

  • Just saw this video. I have been using the 7D(T2i) & 5D II for 2 years now for videos & Pictures. The 5D II is INCREDIBLE!!! the 7D(T2i) only advantage is the 60fps which is a BiG deal for film students. For me: 5D Mk II all the way for weddings, creative photography, & 24fps videos. If you are in to slow motion stuff & sports photography then get the 7D.

  • @SuperMangn can you send me a link to those test?

  • @drumat5280 I will PM it to you because youtube does not allow link last time I tried.

  • @drumat5280 Those result are from dxomark, those result are for still image rating from low noise to dynamic range and color dept.

  • @drumat5280 Can you make a tutorial on color correction? I'm trying to get that look that you've got around 2:15.....

  • @drumat5280 Hi Dave. I think he refers to this one: dxomark [dot] com/index.php/Cameras/Compare-Camera-Sensors

  • @SuperMangn Nikon fanboy???

  • @RafaelEVOX2 What are you on about, I own two Canons you idiot.

  • @SuperMangn yeah the nikon will be better on the photography side of things, but canon do better in the video side of things

  • At 2:17 to 2:35 How do you get your video to be wide screen with the black lines? (I'm the only person who doesn't know)

  • @MrZayNev You can do it in Sony Vegas, After Effects, and a few other editing programs. This is known as a letterbox. Hope i helped! Subscribe c:

  • so what you recommend because I planned to buy the canon t3i in your opinion and experience which do you think is the better of the two cameras

  • great vid. very helpful!

  • Grea video at the end.

  • i really want to see T2i with Magic Lantern, with higher QScale and compare with 5D

  • @VeryHugeAss why do you say that? What did is say or do to get this comment?

    Dave

  • @drumat5280 I wouldnt pay much attention to people such as these..keep up the good work.

  • @drumat5280 sir, you are really inspiring! love your video so much because you are so friendly!

i guess just ignore the comment of VeryHugeAss.

by the way, you are awesome! please continue make more video. love to watch it!

  • @drumat5280 I think maybe he's just a jrerk. Nice vid, useful.

  • PERFECT! THANK YOU :) I`ve been waiting for a pro review of the T2i with the mark II , although I changed my T2i with 60D :) Loving it!

  • Hello Dave, do you use the t2i to perform this video ??? ( Talking in your office we suppose ).

Do you use some program to color correction ??. Thanks in advance for your information.

  • @Serkaingenieria yes the t2i, just Premiere pro

  • Thanks man!

  • Canons - blurry

  • I recently purchased the T2i and love it! It has such great potential. I shall be uploading my review of it and some test footage to my channel soon. Please people subscribe to be the first to view!

  • Your only comparing quality here, there shouldn't be a misunderstanding of why the 5D costs 3 times more. It's not always quality I can give you several reasons why it's more expensive. 1 is 5D is full frame (better for low light). 2 is more selectable ISO range. 3 is manual audio controls. 4, a lot more durable and built far better than the T2i. And five, more dynamic range. Take these 2 outside under sun light and you'll see how much the T2i's whites will clip when trying to obtain dark areas.

  • I'd be ashamed if I'd go on you tube start comparing a race horse to a rabbit by giving it a horse whipper and a rat for a mount...you figure it out!

  • canon 1d with the 4k video should be sweeet :D

  • I have a 550d and want a 5d mk 2 :S

  • Honestly, I bought a 5 MK II to sell my T2 I, while comparing the two I realized a have paid well over 1500$ for just a BARELY visible improvement, after testing over and over and over again I sold the 5D. I personally think that if one wants an improvement over the T2 he or she shud get a 1Ds MKIII and over.

  • @EpicsodeOne yea but how much is the 1d mk3...a lot more i'm sure, right?

The problem is with video editing and the way the video is rendered in post production, any footage from practically any decent camera or camcorder can be made to look identical and good quality.

There really isn't any clear best which sucks...u would think the more money it costs the better it is

  • @whole27 Exactly what I mean, one day IF I GET RICH, I will get one and as long that I want bang for bug I will forever stay (How epic) with th3 550D, actually the only thing that makes a camera more expensive than the other is ONLY the dinamic range that it can see closest to the eye and this is something that all camera manufacturers don't tell.

  • @EpicsodeOne BUCK***

  • @EpicsodeOne Not really ... You do realize the 1Ds MKIII is a freaking expensive camera. The 5D MkII is an amazing camera. It gives you more dynamic range to work with in video. It gives you shallower depth of field than the T2i gives you since it has a full frame sensor, unlike the T2i. The 5D AND the T2i are both very capable cameras. You work with what you have as a filmmaker. I own a Nikon D5000 and wish I had a 5D mkII, it's still not stopping me from practicing my art with cinematography.

  • you spelled "CREEPY" wrong lol GREAT video!!!

  • @IUSECAMERAS I know, that is what I don't like about YT they won't let me correct it and re-upload a new video to replace it.

  • @drumat5280 Gotta actually get it right. Lol.

  • I use my T2i with Technicolor Plug In and I don't need anything else.

  • Now if we want a sharper image with the t2i we ciuld just do it in post

  • Great video and great comparison.

  • im thinking of buying canon 550 d and i want to use it for video,do you sujest me anything with the same money??

  • @8anoschocolate I think the 550d is a great camera for the price, check out my gear page.

  • @drumat5280 ok,i'm just thinking that if i'm gonna use it for video, should i get a video camera?i'v worked once with canon 550 d and i was surprised by the result.anyway thank you, your channel is helpful!

  • Is that James Cameron...but a much better looking version of him?

  • How do you "correct" color in a video ?

  • I 100% completely agree with that chart.

  • so glad that i got a 550D

  • FILMRIOT<3

  • @MrSchMikaels FILMRIOT 4 LYFE

  • The scenes at 1:52 looks amazing.

What color gradin system are you using and what kind of lightning?

  • THX ALOTE u helped me made my choice!

  • I Must say Dave, out of all the tutorial videos on the internet, your's are the most honest. Great footage mixed with simple east through explanation = quality information for any filmmaker. Solid Work Dave!

  • I give you me T2i for your 5D - There is the same...

  • wait how do you correct a video to get the orange out of it if white balance does not work? Im only 13 so im not the best on this stuff and i have a T3i.

  • Comment removed

  • hey dave...I enjoy your videos. I started with a t2i and currently shooting with the 60D. Thanks for you comparison.

  • I love my t3i

  • Kit lens on t3i? Really that bad?

  • what is the song at the end?

  • Im getting tired of crop sensor. For beginners this is a great crop camera, but with 5D II, low iso peformance and full frame sensor alone is worth the upgrade. I love shooting wide open, and i love the size of the images it produces.

  • biggest advantage to the 5d is being able to use a 28mm f1.8 and still get a shallow depth of field, simply impossible with the t2i with the nearly equivalent 20mm f2.8. Both these lenses are the same price, but the 28 1.8 on a 5d absolutely destroys the 20mm f2.8 in terms of quality, speed and depth of field.

If you need to shoot wide, get the 5d, if you need to shoot long, get the t2i.

  • what program did you use to create this whole video

  • What lens did you use for the t2i??

  • @MichaelXhardcore it was a while ago but I think it was the 50mm 1.8
