Actually they modified the AK's to full Auto. You can purchase a Romanian AK (semi Auto meaning every time you pull the trigger a shot is fired) from different states as long as you have valid paper work required for that state and smuggle the AK's back to California.

The weapons were not smuggled from Mexico. You forget that at one time assault rifles were legal in California. This took place in 1997, before that it was easy to purchase semi automatic rifles and all they did was to modify them to be full auto.

I've been a cop 24 years. The reason SWAT took so long (and they didn't take that long) is because they don't work out of a central office. The officers are scattered among different divisions. It takes time to get there no matter what city you work for.

It's just too bad that the bank robbers didn't have helmets, were a better shot, have a mini gun like Jesse had on Predator. I blame the first responders on this. When they noticed the fire power they had they should have pulled back way back. Make them think they won and let them leave. There were things in the sky called helicopters. They could have told the swat where they were going. But they put alot of people in danger. I can image the property damage. The banks are the real robbers!

Also it's kind of a rule of Police procedure to set up a perimeter around where the incident is taking place. Even then, the choppers had to back off during this because they were fired upon from the ground. I think they did pretty well, since no-body died, and only 3 civi's were hurt, which is alot by standards, but considering the situation, it's not too bad.

I know the story of this very well, and have heard this audio before, but I still shiver when I hear the "Officer down, Officer down!" calls. Can feel my blood start pumping quickly, and the adreniline starts flowing. It's scary that these scum were able to pull something like this off, granted they died, but being able to have two guys rob a bank and shoot up almost a dozen cops, and a few civillians aswell as stay active for like, 45 minutes is just creepy. Glad no officers were killed.

actually 10-23 has different meanings depending on the agency even in L.A. county. i know a couple of lapd officers. they don't use the 10 codes for that reason. and under stress people are likely to use plain talk more. they do use the code-number system and penal codes. chp uses both 10 and 11 codes like a second language. i think it's easier to keep "codes" to a minimum.
