It is the SAME, but FASTER. It has the same name with the iPhone 3G, only S added (stands for speed).
It is impossible to add such speed by only firmware updates, that's why they're releasing this new hardware. Again, if you own an iPhone 3G, you don't have to buy this one.
By the way, what would you have wanted from the next iPhone if you're not happy with this one?
I'd say the iPhone 3GS is just what I was hoping for.

I totally agree, the extra processor power and double the ram are excellent upgrades, if it was a computer you would be more than happy with a faster processor and twice the ram. The only thing I would like to have seen is a flash. Forcing 8, 10 or 12 megapixels on to the tiny ccd in a mobile phone is ridiculous, 3 is plenty.

Yep its a 600mhz instead of a 400, 256mb of ram instead of 128, and it has a faster graphics processor so the thing runs at least twice as fast

really? thas good because i just got 3.0 and my iphone is slow AS FUCK i cant turn it on off sleep takes 2 mins then it clicks on im like wtf?

Well, there's video recording, MMS and copy and paste (which rivals have had for ages), plus a software update. I think the most disappointing things are the 3 mpx camera and the same old screen that they've had since 2007.

To be honest, the iphone is the best smartphone on the market... by far. It is the most user friendly, the fastest. And for god's sake if you are pissed off that it doesnt have a good camera than invest forty quid and by a decent one.
