I love Doris Day, I grew up watching her movies. Just a lovely, kind, beautiful lady. Has always been my favorite actress... Calimity Jane, and all of her films with Rock Hudson and James Garner. And that clear beautiful voice, she is the best!!
Doris is one of the few truly top-tier stars to walk away from show business and go on to an entirely different but just as worthwhile, productive and generous life. She's always said she never particularly enjoyed the stardom part of the stardom; what she enjoyed was doing the very best she could with her music, her film roles and her television show. She obviously has always thrived on challenges.
I'm sure many here are familiar with wikipedia, where everybody can edit someone's biography. Anyway, I put into their bio of Doris Day that she is "one of America's most beloved entertainers." And that was removed! And I put it back. And it was removed again. And finally I gave up. Their reason was that this was merely one person's personal opinion that couldn't be backed up with fact. Seriously! I wrote back that anyone who removed that didn't know the first thing about Doris.

I have breast cancer, and today I felt quite worried, and had forgotten all about Doris Day's birthday----until I got the email with the link to Doris' call-in. It really cheered me up ! When I was a little girl I would watch my mom dance around the house as she cleaned, and sing to your beautiful voice "Que Sera Sera". Later on in life as I raised my 4 kids, I would play your songs to them. My son & I would get up early of the mornings & sing to your Greatest Hits CD. A GREAT way to start the day.
