Honest to god man, ive gotten inspired by you. Like you I wanna play college football as an offense and possible defensive lineman and do exactly like you. You workouts have got me bench pressin 355 as a sophmore and over 500 for squat. And I completely have ease of beating other lineman. Thanks for this kick ass workout. I honestly wanna meet you one day.
What are you to gain by just simply managing to get the weight up? I believe the most muscle synthesis happens when the muscles are targeted by using good form. And couldn't you have gotten the feeling that the weight might be a little much?
@ajayalmighty gaining satisfaction that you've set a new PR. As well as the peace of mind knowing you aren't a complete faggot worrying about strict form and "muscle synthesis". Really, if you had to ask that question, I don't think you should bother watching Elliott's videos.
@ajayalmighty I guess you'd have to ask him. I'd think maxing out is pretty effective strength training though, I don't see why it would be a bad training idea except for the danger involved.
Had a similar thing happen to me with a standard barbell press awhile back. Only difference was that I was pressing 185 pounds (my bodyweight at the time), not 355 pounds!
People always say that squats will test you the most mentally, give you the most fear. But the way the weight feels on a OHP PR and the knowledge that it could come toppling down, turning your core into an accordian... yeah, takes some real motivation to get back under it especially after your first topple.
thats how you do it man! never back down untell you drop! im inspierd by this feat of effort. makes me think about trying harder when i hit the weights.
what i like is that you got the balls to put up videos of you struggling. Trainers these days either (a) don't train properly themselves and are out of shape, or (b) only show themselves in perfect form performing 'incredible' feats of strength or whatever. By showing us your struggle it inspires, man. it shows that even at your level you're putting in the work and pushing the limits. i like it. when i start my gym it'll be like that. why be afraid to show that you're still learning everyday.
dang dude, that was f'n lucky...it look like the weights almost took your legs out but good save, that would suck bad if u got injured...this will be a youtube classic lol keep up the nice vids...best ever!!!
had something like that happen to me with my first attempt at my new 160lb water filled keg. Pressed it out then it came back down and hit me on the head....
Thanks for sharing this Elliott. This is one of my weak events and seeing THE man have to bail once in a while makes my lifts (or lack thereof sometimes) seem more real. BTW, the beard makes you look like old time wrestlng legend Tony Atlas!
I truly appreciate this video! All over you only see a person's success but not his or her failures. Learning from your mistakes and have the guts to move forward and succeed shows the true character of a person. I have no doubt that we will watch you succeed once again. Looking forward to you showing us that you pressed that son-of-a-gun!!
Elliot, keep hittin it hard...No one is perfect...at least you have the balls to push it to your limits which is awesome...keep up the good work and soon that weight ain't gonna be anything!
Hey man that can happen to any of us. That isn't exactly a cake walk to lift. You got it up and managed to avoid killing yourself. So mark this one a small victory lol.
Dude. the fact that you were able to just clean and jerk that much weight is impressive. I dont see a failure here. I actually think you can get this wieght though. Alot of people just dont realize how mental weight liftin can be. Just get your mind right and run up too it 1 mo gin! you got it bra. Train till you cant train no mo... and then train some MO! BEAST!!!!!
Elliot, do you practice cleans? That should help you power it up. Still, failures are only stepping stones to future success. Most people won't even try what you attempted.
I have a question: although I am young (19), I do not want to risk getting arthritis in my joints when I am older, and the reason people get arthritis is over-use and over-stress of their joints throughout life, but that seems to be the only way to gain muscle - to reoeatedly move the joints under great load to resistance train muscles. How do you gain muscle without damaging your joints in the long-term?
honestly man, its a trade off. You will have to sacrifice one thing for another. Do not be afraid to train hard, but smart. Arthritis, injuries, and everything else is just apart of the game.
idk man i think as long as you stretch out like your shoulders and everyitnhg and make sure you loosen up before you lift heavy your joints will be ok im not sure though im 18 lightweight but i like to lift for lower reps with heavy weight i make sure im loose though before i lift i think that if you dont and then you lift heavy that is how people get joint issues idk though
hey, you're obviously a strong guy...but I wonder why you have to go for maximal lifts in practice? You don't think that sub-maximal lifts (e.g., 2-3 reps) is as beneficial?

@frodosauce Half as much? Well considering I weigh 250, yeah I can lift half as much as him.
I was simply wondering why he would take such a big risk, I know all about setting PRs but not at the cost of lifting anything in the future
