I never got into liking smallville. In my opinion, its now for superman fans. it's for the general audience.

@OaGuardian However relying on the fact that an S emblem was on screen instead of a better concept, a better actor than Reeve or the equivalent (and yes Reeve i love him but hes not god, im sure somebody out there could be him) wouldn't age well. However knowing that this would make money for a sort time they wrapped it up and threw it. Unfortunately it turned out not like but close to Supergirl. Like Supergirl the reaction was same. "YAY A FLYING BLUE PERSON....although i wish it was a boy."

@OaGuardian You can tell that the reason for making this series was the success of the Superman movies. Whether people think S3 failed or not it certainly was popular and was a box office hit. A year after the Quest for Peace which was horrible but still attractive in a action sense people still liked Superman. Knowing that Reeve wont come back, trying to replace the man of steel without looking lame would be impossible (AKA Lois and Clark) So using a alternate yet familiar concept was Superboy

@OaGuardian Yes and people dont like certain things. Turning Superman into a Twilightified Tv series (Smallville) wouldn't attract the general audience that likes the man of steel. Superboy is a contradiction and down plays the awesomeness of the man of steel when we see that this wonderful man had been doing these wonderful things since he was a teen. Making the superman a typical superman. For enjoyment purposes its aged horribly but story wise its just a tv contradiction trying to go 5 stars.

@OaGuardian I will blame them, but i also blame those who continue to use such a weird concept. The interesting part about Superman is seeing him do something we cant, not over dramatic shots, weird actors, and developing powers which doesnt consist with the correct storyline. Its a nice television show, just dont say it has anything to do with superman and i would have watched it.

What are you talking about? This show was very true to the comics, the special effects got better and better, and the scripts were written by comic book greats!

This was amazing back then. I remember every kid on the block here in Denmark wanted to watch it every saturday at 5, after school.

superman was such a hit. dc created superboy without siegel and shuster's permission. that is why dc ended up creating a separate superboy character.

Yes it's true that Gerard Christopher was considered for the role of Superman in L&C but when producer Deborah Joy Levine found out he'd done "this type of thing before", he was no longer an option. Another candidate considered for the Superman role on L&C was Hercules' Kevin Sorbo.

Hi, no I've never met Gerard but I have contacted him once via email, I've also contacted The Ilya Salkind Company via email before but I've never met anyone from there either and I'm in no way affiliated with the show or its production staff ... just another fan. I have no idea why Gerard auditioned for the part after just coming off the Superboy set perhaps because he had a good feel of the character after three or so years in the blue tights.

I talked to Gerard twice (via email). The first time we talked, was after Christopher Reeve's passing. He auditioned for L & C, because he liked playing the character. Superboy was prematurely canceled, because WB, was making L & C. Universal made Superboy and WB didn't want two shows, at the same time. So, they told DC Comics, to withhold it's blessings of more scripts. Gerard got the part, but L&C producers dropped him, because they wanted a fresh face.

Yeah pretty much. It was back in 1999 at a convention at Chicago, long before the DVD set was announced.

Yeh even if they are still having legal issues, they are letting it rob them of financial oppurtunities, as this item is one that would make them a lot of money.

True,i hear you. Yet you cant forgetabout the rare and short-lived Superman Animated series done by Ruby Spears which aired on CBS Saturday Mornings.(1988-1989) I would also like to see that series on DVD as well.

Of course, you would. Any "die hard" Superman fan would want to have both the Ruby Spears Superman Animated series and Superboy seasons 2-4 on DVD. No Superman collection is complete without them.

DC/WB and the Jerry Siegel estate are currently engaged in a legal battle over ownership of the Superboy character. I'm taking a gamble here and guess that's the reason why WB hasn't released "Superboy" Seasons 2-4 on DVD yet.

Through an online chat conducted in May 2007 (I think it was at the WBHomeTheaterForum), WB stated that there were no plans for more live-action "Superboy" DVD sets at this time.
