Peter shouting at Assumpta is a little frightening. But it's true; he can't have regular friends who form biased loyalties. As a priest he must remain neutral do he can serve all equally. He's getting closer to his breaking point and needs to really capture her attention and get her to start thinking about the consequences of her words and actions. He feels remorse after she leaves.
Assumpta realizes here how much she's hurting Peter. He hears people's confessions. It's critical that they can trust his discretion. He can't confide in friends like other people do. If he reveals his personal feelings for her, he'll be interfering in HER life and marriage -- something he would never do, either as priest OR friend. She really doesn't think carefully about consequences. And he's tortured by trying to think and feel for everyone.
@sweetamyleigh A question for whom I consider the ultimate BK expert.....is it Leo's sweater that Assumpta grabs from the back of his chair and wears to the church in this scene? It certainly does appear to be big on her when she walks into the church. Little ironic details like this fascinate me and attest to the genius of the writers of this brilliant show. This is also one of my favorite scenes.
Can I add that Peter is almost terrifying when he near-yells "You put ideas into people's heads!" Boy is he bitter that he can't get that woman out of his mind.
Oh I just want to take him and hold him for dear life. Poor Peter is so conflicted, so vulnerable. You can't not feel for him. I hope ST looks back on the role fondly.
Awesome scene. Simply one of the best shows in TV history. Incidentally, the music played during the first 1:35 of this clip is my favorite music from the show - it was first heard during the second half of Season 3, used whenever Peter was around Assumpta. Terrific mood music for the scenes
Looks like Peter's jumper from previous episodes!!!

I was a little frightened when Peter said, "Priests don't have those kind of friends." very dark for him.

@beerman37
It's also played after Assumpta's death when Peter throws his collar off the bridge. Beautiful and heartbreaking!

@somethinggnaws Also in the polar bear incident in nieve's kitchen.

@beerman37 Especially the stringed instrument, not sure if it's a cello...it's soooo painfully singing to you.

One of my absolute favorite scenes. The emotions Stephen Tompkinson can portray. Lovely. Thanks!
