  • You need to check tape tension on both the supply reel and take up. Do you have a tentelometer? Check your manual for tension settings. I believe at 15 ips it should be around 10 - 12 onces. I cant remember what the setting is for 30ips (You are running at 30ips) It could also be the pinch roller pressure. All the proper adjustments are in the manual. Let me know...

  • Low voltage on left spooling motor makes it runs so slowly that it cannot take-up the tape.

Also an excess of friction in motor shaft bearings could make this one not to spin evenly.

When things go right, spooling motors usually tends to spin very much faster than tape could feed to, so, if reel doesn't take the tape up, there is obviously a mechanical failure in motor or an abnormally low voltage that difficults it to run normally at its right speed.

Check frictions and voltage on play mode.

  • You have to call Steve sadler. It's just a simple adjustment.. Until then clean your pinch roller and cap stand. Blevins audio.com

  • Clean all molex connectors..and possibly re solder PC boards...common problem that solves 90 percent....worked on these for years..

  • Back tension problems with the take up plate can make it spin at the wrong speed.

  • Change the motor righht, you need make maintenance to motor, review voltages, caps and resistors..

  • Looks like the left reel is spinning the tape faster than the right reel can take it up. One motor or the other might be weak or bad...

    Just a thought...
