Susie is a well mannered ditzy,lil girl but very innocent and Sarah Jane is a Lil bitch you should never be ashamed of what you come from black,white,Asian or anything she selfish! Also Steve is cute but he jealous of the Jawn career!
Ironically, Sarah Jane couldn't date a black man either. Think about it. She looks white, so people would think she's in an interracial relationship. That was totally unacceptable back then. Her black boyfriend would get beat up and possibly killed. And she'd get treated horribly and possibly beat up as well.
this movie is really about life. It isn't about black and white but about shades of grey in between. Sarah Jane had her mean points yes. But you don't really hate her completely. She was hurting and in pain and this manifested itself in some mean ways toward her mother because of the way non whites were treated in the 50's. The only REAL villains were the bigoted people that would create a society where that type of behavior would be allowed to manifest at all. Oh and Sarah's crazy ass boyfriend
I know Annie doesn't mind helping Lora, as she has a nurturing character, but when they left Sarah Jane out at the party, I can understand her being upset. She grew up with Suzie like a sister, but was still regarded as the "help's" daughter. I would think Annie would have benefitted from the good fortune Lora achieved, as well as Sarah Jane. It's almost as if they did, yet still maintained their "roles" in life.
Sarah Jane is a spoiled rotten little ungrateful witch! I hated her character. I blame her mother, because she should of straighten that attitude out a long time ago. She should of introduced her to history of many people that had children that was bi-racial and multicultural those stories where in the Bible to give us all a sense of who we are.
Her character IS ungrateful an vain. Her character doesn't seem to realize that she's NOT the only light skinned Black person in the country. There are many, particularly when this film was made, fair skinned Black folks who look just like her and whiter. She wasn't special or unique.
