Guys like Royce proved you wrong long ago. They defeated Thai boxers with far superior striking by completely removing them from their game. A solid Greco wrestling/Judo/Sambo game pretty much neutralizes the Thai clinch completely. There is a reason the Thais get thrown all over the place by the Sanda fighters, since their very limited throwing game doesn't prepare them.

Have you ever watched Muay Thai vs Sanda matches? Didn't you watch Anderson Silva getting taken down easily by Sonnen, despite knowing even MORE than the Thai clinch? As John Jones correctly pointed out, a Thai clinch is at a huge disadvantage against someone skilled with wrestling clinch abilities, open to a huge number of takedowns. It "going either way" has been proven false many times.

I love both but cctually in UFC I saw many fighter that can't kick, can't block a kick, and also fighter wih a bad cardio or a ridicolous glass jaw but still winner in the fight (and sometimes even the belt) because of their power or because their ju-jitsu. Champions are in everysport but general speaking UFC just gave the chance to choose more strategy and technics to win a fight. but doesn't mean that requires "more skills" than kickboxing.
