Pellet stoves and furnace have become so common here in New England, and they are great. We heat our entire house with a pellet stove for less than half the cost of oil or kerosene. Cleaner for the atmosphere and produces no dust inside and very little ash. Pellets are more economical. A pellet stove will last at least 24 hours without refilling as opposed to a wood stove, some bigger models last for days or more as they have a larger storage.
@charliemant Really? Well that's a hell of a damn thing! I've never heard of anything running on "wood pellets" before! ..Wait, wouldn't the wood-scraps that the "pellets" are made from be a more a effective fuel then!?... wtf
@ubersteigen brother, I don't know much info I just looked it up on google. I just wanted to know what was the purpose of making them. If you gather more info please inform me. Thank you friend.

Look at wood burning stoves, they burn not only logs, but wood pellets like this. It is so a loading device can keep a steady supply to the stove

@ubersteigen The real reasons that wood pellets are better than wood chips are the following.
1) Because stoves and furnaces cannot burn water obviously, the lower moisture content means higher energy per pound of fuel
2) The more energy per pound means that it can be transported more readily to the domestic and industrial market
3) Because of the shape and consistency of the pellets, they can be "co-fired" with coal in large scale power plants
