How does the 1010 compare to the 1000? What features have they added, and (hopefully not) what have they taken out?

I have the 1000, which is great because of its sturdy feel, swivelling screen, photo/video, standard/hi def, mic input, lighting shoe and sd card output. Does the 101 have all these? anything else?

Having to access the manual functions through the menu can slow you down a bit, but for the size it's really the only way to make it work. The design of this camera is well thought out. For instance, if you have it attached to a tripod mount you can swap memory cards without having to unscrew the tripod plate from the bottom. It has an external mic input and headphone jack (but it seems you can only monitor audio while recording.) For the money it's a great starter camera for filmmakers.

Hello , I am Kiriakos from Greece, got this camera before 20 days.

I have 10 years past with Olympus digital cameras C2100UZ.

The Sanyo HD1010 has an amazing image quality, that made me to fall in love with it, the camera by setting some basics settings manually, it does miracles.

I had some difficulty to find software editor that supports the 60 fields ,but at the end found that the Corel VideoStudio X3 is 100% compatible & got it.

My only nag " stabilization " still looking solution.

@jazzicron911 Oh yeah. This camera has a rock solid look and feel to it. There is no comparison. The price, as you might imagine is higher than the Sony Bloggies.

the flash only works with still camera mode. It does have a cold shoe to add camcorder lights or mics.

No, the camera itself has a screwhole for tripod. The docking station is just to view video on TV or charge the battery.

Thanx for your review! I'm still a little concerned about the menu/manual functionalities (coz I've read they kinda suck) AND about the stabilization, since confronting some of your videos made with this camcorder with ones made with i.e. SonyCX520 and similar higher-budget cams, it is obvious this one's stabilization is pretty lame. I'm coming from Italy to NY for Xmas, and I'm planning to buy a cam under 300€/440$. Sony is out, so this may be it. What about stabilization while walking?

The files are large even at the lowest level HD recording. An 8 min vide is about 600MB - 2G depending on HD setting. The files are not compatible with Windows Movie Maker. The Kodak Zi8 produces smaller files at the HD 720 setting. I need to find a quicker way to upload these large HD files to Youtube! Otherwise nice camera.

Hey, I'm thinking about getting that camcorder.. But that docking station looks really awesome. By any chance, does that come with the camcorder? If not, what is the name of it because I really want to get that with the camcorder because of the connectivity it has hdmi, usb and firewire. Great long detailed review!

Hi DarkestWolf: the answer to your question is that this camera is NOT waterproof. Sanyo does have other models, however, that are waterproof.

Not sure if you mentioned the threads on the lens to add other lenses or filters. Headphone jack. Use the manual settings for better photos and video.
