  • lol @ poignantpoetry ... personifying a human huh?

This is a radiohead knockoff, oddly enough.

  • I have thought Sage was a genius ever since i heard Makeshift Patriot on an epitaph. My friend lent me death dance, distrust, and Journals and I think i finally got the link between rap and poetry. So when i came to watch this and everyone said how disappointed they were i was concerned. I watched the clip and i thought it was brilliant. Sure its not as brutal and in your face as some of his stuff but not everything worth noticing in life is going to hit you over the head. Much respect to Sage.

  • This is the only crappy sage francis song ive heard :( there are some good parts in there but considering how much his other music has affected me.. this song didnt move me at all..

  • good video and good album.

  • ama la viva. sage viva.

  • i <3 sage

  • I heard of you from Mark Linkous.

    Sucks he's dead.

    Glad you aren't.

  • Mark Linkous is genious

  • F the haters. people take it for what it is. theres some tracks i like more than others, but ill always have an open mind when it comes to sage and always have infinite respect for what you spit on the mic. your a BEAST! JAW OF STEEL!!

  • looking forward to seeing this guy tommorow

  • @PoignantPoetry thats same as i thought

  • I'm not sure how much I dig the style, but the emotion is really powerful, and I love that.

It goes without saying that I love the song (top played on my iTunes), I'm talking about the video.

  • Fucking great. Sage's best work yet. The way hes incorporating indie rock into his music is great, rather than simply relying on funk/disco back tracks like so much rap does he's looking to other genres to pull from.

  • Okay... so the video is about a robot (personification for a human probably) who builds a girl out of bits and pieces of himself because she wants them... first he gives her life, then a heart, then his chest plate (symbolizing tearing a shield down since his shielded his chest)... then she leaves him for another and he's left at the end rebuilding himself... did I get it right?

  • maravilha!

  • R.I.P. Mark Linkous.

  • I personally know Jim Foltice! He's awesome and did a great job :)

  • sage is off the hook...a true escape artist...

    check en route project

for some trip hop vibes too..........

  • Fantastic video...

  • @alexisserious its not the same dummy

  • WHY? made this song years ago and called it GEMINI

  • Every artist is allowed one "Coda-esque" release, people. Besides, shit grows on you.

  • Yep, Portal's a game. If you end up playing a computer game ever again, you might want to make it Portal, actually. Awesome video, either way; might I ask what sort of camera was used?

  • @Gunter47 Cool man! I will have to check it out, unless it's one of those games that require mad skill, cause I SUCK at anything video game related. I don't know what it is but no matter what I die and then get to frustrated to learn. The film was shot on a Canon Rebel basically straight out the box. I did mod it and put some Nikon lens on it for some shots.

  • @sunofrellik That's why I recommend it, actually; the writing is great, and it does a masterful job of introducing the game mechanics and gradually ramping up the difficulty. Also, I have to ask now that I've got a conversation with somebody who knows what they're talking about: what software did you use to put the video together? I got into stop-motion animation as a kid, and I'm thinking about getting back into it now that I've got some degree of patience and money.

  • fuckin great love it

  • way to be f***ing awesome Jim!

  • Wow! A great stop-motion vid for my favourite song on the album. Way to go Sage and Jim! Rest in peace Mark.

  • What is portal? I have no idea what that reference means. Is it a video game? that would explain it, The last video game I played was street fighter 2, (well I guess I cant deny Grand theft auto) but I have never heard of portal. Definitely didn't have it in mind when creating this video, but its cool it reminds you of something you might enjoy.

  • I've been really disappointed with Sage's new direction with Indie artists, it doesn't suit him. I just wish he'd go back to his hip hop beats, these songs are just too familiar and generic and wouldn't seem out of place on mainstream radio! Little Houdini was an exception, that song blew me away, raw and energetic but the rest of the album is not the Sage I know and have loved over the years.

  • @Corey200199 I know people who've been making the same album for 20 years straight. That's cool for some folks. Personally, I'd feel no sense of reward or adventure in that. Sometimes it's good to branch out and try different stuff. I'll always return to my roots and rap over "beats" (as that is what is easiest for me) but I also like to try new things and see what happens. I'm also half crazy so if what I say doesn't make sense then don't mind me. Haha. I respect that you have your preferences.

  • @therealsagefrancis I completely agree. Music evolves within the person creating it. if this is the direction you have evolved for this record, then I tip my hat to you for stepping out of your "norm" for this record. I saw you in the Ottawa ON show and these songs with the live band were an incredible experience. I still love you older stuff (Personal Journals really hits home with me), but own this album and not only love it but completely respect what it took for you to create it. Amazing!

  • @therealsagefrancis I gotta respect the integrity in not wanting to replicate albums, but, Sage, with the kind of stuff you put out on a regular and consistent basis...you're going to be missed. And for my entire lifetime, I'll remember your music, the most soulful, honest and beautiful hip-hop in the industry. Bar none.

I pray that you get bored of your hiatus at some point.

  • @Potatomus1 Just so no one is confused about what's going on, Sage will continue to make music and work on a variety of projects. The only thing he's retiring from is touring. In fact, he still plans on doing shows but only a few per year. In the meantime, he is working on new material and tweeting his life away.

  • @therealsagefrancis Mr. Francis you are a amazing literally everything you do is incredible and i love it all. i wish everyone knew about you

  • Look, I know Jim very well and he doesn't play video games of any kind. This whole Portal thing is ridiculous but awesome that you related this video to something that you li(k)e...

  • I don't think it was a reference to Portal...a box with a heart on it doesn't make it a Companion Cube.

Anyway, awesome video Sage, can't wait to see ya in September :)

  • Sage Francis hasn't played Portal? I don't know if I can be a fan of music any longer.

  • i didn't get that last part.what was he doing with the metal sheet?

  • @dafrosty He's rebuilding himself....

  • Thank you for you as always.

  • Ohh ya Sage, I dont think your counter is working. I know about 15 peeps who checked this out today and it was at 321 every time. Just letting you know. Keep making sick music and sick videos

  • Comment removed

  • @thistimeround that's the way youtube works, the counter doesn't update at first for a while.

  • WHAT!!!! that was sick!!! No one is doing music videos like this anymore!! Props to you Mr. Francis. I was a little worried when I say the Best of Times video. Love the song but the video was kind of......Ehhh, what ever, and generic, but this was freaking AMAZING!!!

  • the portal reference here is incredibly stupid.
