Ok, this actually completely disabled my internet. Deleting the dwords restored my connection, but at triple my normal latency. Ended up having to run Windows FixIt to restore default TCP/IP registry values.

@jdaziz0 Those are network connections. Having 7 keys mean u have a lot of network connections. Disable the ones you don't need and you should only have 1 left for you to configure.

Guys, better don't mess up with your registry.

And you should also now that this one decreases you Ping on the sreen so your actual ping is still the same.

@rjc0234 What distance is involved ? As I said, my ping from St John's NL to Vancouver BC is less than 100 ms. It won't get much better than that simply because if the distance. a 500 ms ping could be crossing several oceans a bunch of times. Could also involve satellite links, in which case you are hosed no matter what you do.

well its just my area and my house (while i am less than 15 miles from a major area) my house has always suffered insanely high ping, but this fix has been crazy, it has now made my ping around 30-40!

i also think that my internet goes through bad stages, where it will be 500-600 a couple of days a week (and my ISP has no idea why) but this fix seems to ahve worked quite well (and made me very good at battlefield 3) so for that i thank you.

Note: This only affects TCP. Some games don't use TCP. The other option is UDP which works differently. TCP is a connection-oriented protocol which means it guarantees delivery of packets and that they arrive in the right order. UDP is a datagram protocol which doesn't track which packets are received

If the app uses TCP these will work. Some real-time apps like VoIP (Skype) use UDP and ignore packets lost by the network (usually dropped because of congestion).

Also try pathping on Windoze.

TcpAckFrequency = 1 (default is 2, 0 treated as 2) is used to make TCP generate acknowledgments immediately, normally acks are sent after every two packets are received.

RTT (Ping) times are reported in milliseconds (1/1000 seconds). They include the (nearly) speed of light travel of the data on the wire.

And you can't go faster than light (unless your network card sends neutrinos).

This means if your server is across an ocean or continent, you can't do better than the time for signals to go across and back. You can eliminate the waiting in your local and remote 'protocol stacks', 1st for Nagle's Algorithm at your end and second for piggybacking acknowledgments at the other (I think).

Both of these should be set by the application when it sets up the TCP session.
