He slit the speaker in the amp, it gives it more of a crunch sound :)
Jinxedwithme
That's right, he did! He cut the speaker cone with a razor blade! That why it sounds the way it does! If you listen to the Kinks do this song in concert, it just doesn't sound the same. It sounds too clean!!
@MrSatiro66 Oh smarty pants, do some research before commenting stuff like that yeah? Clearly lacking intellectuality. This song is considered, by several heavy metal bands, the first heavy metal song of the 60s. My source is... hmmm Black Sabbath, Uriah Heep and Iron Maiden interviews.
@justlikeclouds actually I do. Want me to just make sure you were saying some people say it's from the riff of the song that heavy metal was born but now a mickey mouse showed up on telly singing, what a contrast? I am fluent in spanish actually, just write shit. Maybe you need to learn what sounds ironic and idiotic. What about that?
I never bothered with listening to The Kinks for several years as sometimes they were overshadowed by others at times. I am 24 and I used to spend my pocket money on dead cheap records when CD's bought vinyl prices crashing to the floor when I was a kid.
@fumetti It's actually supposed to be Dave that yells it. According to Ray Davies, it was just before the solo began, while holding that C (?) chord...before the rest of the band enters. Ray tried to overdub it by screaming "Oh no", but he says that you can still hear it, and that bothers him. I, on the other hand, have been straining to listen to it for a while and can't, so maybe one needs to obtain an un-remastered version of the track.
You Really Got Me - The Kinks [London, England] - 1964 - "No.07 on 10/24/1964. 10 weeks Top 40. AMG pick. This is their signature song. One of their BEST." - The Ep Collection [02/10]: Kinksize Hits.
Though the visuals consist of a still photo, this is easily the best audio of the song on Youtube. And after all, that's what it's all about! This track was a clear influence on both metal and punk and still sounds fresh today. True innovators and heroes of ROCK 'N' ROLL!!!
Cool punkband of the 70's?? sorry..no. The Kinks began in 1964 with this powerhouse track we are listening to now. The Kinks were part of the explosion of incredible bands that came out of Britain in the 60's.
Absolutely amazing quality, thanks...

Hay quienes dicen que en el riff de esta canción nació el heavy metal. Y ahora sale un muñeco de Mickey Mouse cantándola en la tele? Que contraste.

@justlikeclouds you have no fucking idea what may mean that comment. You need to learn Spanish, or a better translator

Genius track. Sounds just as raw and dangerous today as it did in 1964.
KellyGreen5555 1 year ago
@KellyGreen5555 yes "raw" is word, no fussy chords, just hard-hitt'in rock -never surpassed by any band,
including "The Doors" "hello i love you" recorded two years later in 1966 -YES!
-obviously Jinm Morrison was only too aware of "the kinks"
-love the doors too though!
