  • "Dont get discouraged if it doesn't work the first time" how about the first 100 times? :P I have straight fine hair that you would get SO MAD trying to curl. :-) Im going to try using some of the Redken Hot sets on my hair prior to putting them in. wish me luckkkk!!!!!

  • you have nice eyebrows lolll

  • @HollywoodNoirMakeup do you think this would work if I rag-rolled it? Or does that toally defeat the pin-curl effect?

I'm asking, cause my bobby pins are gone, and this girl's broke.

  • the vid is awesome, but a little smile on your face is really missed!!!!

  • you do it entirely different than what i was taught, but your way looks sooo much easier. I'm going to have to try that :)

  • Hi!

Really pretty video. I did kind of the same thing for a party. I notice you didn't put anything in your hair. When you took all the pins out, did your hair come out in curls? I'm wondering because I'm trying to find a better way to curl my hair than using a damaging curling iron.

    Thanks for the video!

  • YOU ROCK :*

  • loved you video, really wished you would of shown what your hair looked like after you took the curls out. I have semi-curly hair too and want to know whether it is worth while going to all that trouble.

  • @KittenToes21

the result is in another of her videos

  • Really wish you would of shown us what it looked like when you took them out!

  • when i do pin curls they always end up frizzy when i take them out all i do is take them out and the end up frizzy if i brush them it makes them awful then i need to put ma hair up any suggestions?

    xx

  • Pin curls=epic success. I should know, I tried it for the first time last night and SHAZAM! Crazy white girl 'fro that actually turned out really pretty after I combed it with my fingers.

  • Thank you SO much for this video. It was super. And, I'm a huge fan of your glasses! Do you have any makeup tips for glasses-wearers? Everything I do seems to get lost behind the frames!

  • thanks, i needed this vid. pin curling seemed pretty essential when you're wearing a wig like mine. if you were pin curling somebody else's hair is there any tips i should know?

  • Thanks for posting this... I started thinking about this the other day. Please don't take offense to this, but I used to watch my grandmother do her hair with the pin curls and I wanted to try it myself (not meaning to say it is old lady hair... You know what I mean, I hope). Thank you :)

  • Ive tried this and i fell in love with it!!

  • Could you do this while your hair is just out of the shower damp?

  • I just want to say, if I looked like you, I would never ever have problems with my self-esteem, even on bad hair days, because you are absolutely gorgeous. =D

  • did u straighten your hair before this?thanks

  • Hey there! Can I ask what lip color you're wearing in this vid? Its gorgeous, and I think it might actually work with my hair color...Nothing ever does lol. Thanks!!!!

  • Thank you! I'm pretty sure it's a lipglass by MAC called Prrr. It's a really nice pearly, soft pink.

  • @HollywoodNoirMakeup

Thank you SO much!!! I kind of love you right now :)

  • that is such a pretty hair color

  • Thank you! You're very sweet :)

  • 6:34 to 6:43 "that's what she said" lol

  • lol

  • i wish i could of seen the way you did the back of your head. that seems like it would be harder

  • It can be. Once you get the feel of it, it's like second nature.

  • You make this look so easy, and I know it's not, lol.

  • lol Thanks. It can be difficult, even for me. I'm no seasoned pro. I still make mistakes with it too.

  • My grandmother used to do this. I wonder what ever happened to her gator clips.

  • Haha you should hunt them down!

  • i think its in the How to : Style pin curls:]

  • hey gorgeous can you tell me where you got those gator clip thingys? =]

  • Hey doll! You can get them at the dollar store usually, but even any beauty supply story should have them :)

  • nice tutorial! btw, you have gorgeous red hair!

  • Aw thank you! I appreciate it.

  • Great tutorial! I love your hair color and your glasses ;-)

  • Thanks so much!

  • Thank you so much for posting this! Most pin curl tutorials are directed for straight, fine hair. Since mine is thick and curly, this video was perfect. Really appreciate it!

  • Aw, no problem. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Thanks!

  • I like your glasses. I'm gonna try the pin curl tomorrow nite. I remembered when I was little I used to use pony tail holders that attached with two marbles. I wrapped or rolled my hair and tie with those ponytail holders and slept over night. It was very curly and my mom thought I was weird and creative.

  • Haha that's cute. Thanks for the compliments!

  • Great tutorial, always love finding tutorials that work for thick hair. Suggestion for rolling the sections, you can use a cold curling iron to do the rolls, then just gently disengage it and pin your curl.

  • Thanks! Yes, that's a great tip also.

  • I'm going to try this tonight :) Thanks for the lovely tutorial :D

  • No problem! I hope it works out for you.

  • I want to try this but I know I'm going to have a hard time with the back of my head lol.

  • lol It can be tricky. Sometimes you have to sit sideways in a chair and look back into the mirror to see what you're doing.

  • by far the best pin curl tut on you tube :D Thank you so much :D

  • Wow, thank you! :)

  • wat color is ur hair? so cute

  • Thank you! I go to a salon, so I'm not sure what formula it is.

  • i tried this a couple of weeks ago, but my hair was too wet. even though I slept with them overnight and well into the next morning, they still did not dry. bloody thick hair. however, I tried them again last night when my hair was almost dry, and today I have extremely bouncy curls. I love them :) thanks for this tutorial.

  • No problem! It's all about trial and error, so I'm glad it worked for you :)

  • great glasses!!! do you ever wear contacts? if you do i have a question for you: how do you keep them comfortable while wearing mascara/eye make-up?! i find that i can hardly wear mascara anymore cause it gets into my contacts and i start rubbing my eyes :(

if you dont wear contacts its ok! i was just wondering lol

  • Thank you!!! No, I probably should though! I'm sorry I can't help you out with that lol

  • this is great, I always wanted to know how to do this! thankyou so much for posting this. How long does it take for the pin curls to really stay? because I was wondering if I could do it without sleep.

  • Thanks so much! Well, it depends on how well your hair holds curl. My hair is curly naturally and takes quite well to this method. So, if your hair is the same, you could keep it in during the day until it dries and then take it out. You should sleep with them in if your hair is naturally straight though!

  • Love the tutorial. Also, love your eyeglasses. who are they by.\

    thanks

    ellen

  • Thank you! I don't think they're a particular high end brand. I got them from Hakim Optical.

  • Would this work for someone with very tightly curly hair?

  • Yes, most likely. I can't be too sure of the outcome though. I would suggest doing very large pin curls with large sections to create something a little more loose.

  • this is great, I've been wanting a way to curl without heat!

  • Great! I'm glad I could help :)

  • This was great! I really want curly hair but I don't have a curling iron so this is perfect for me. I'm defenetly going to give it a try! Thanks for a great tuorial.

  • Wow, I'm so glad you found this helpful. I hope it works out for you!

  • ive decided im using this for prom this friday :]

    (thanks for the video again!)

  • That's great! I hope you pose pictures :)

  • I was alrewdy used to pin curl my hair before going to bed (my family always laughs at me, but - oh, well), but your tutorial really helped me to get rid of frizziness and to avoid irregular loose curls! Thanks!

  • Wow, that's great! I'm so glad it helped. Thanks for commenting and watching my videos!

  • it looks like we have very similar hair texture and thickness...i just LOVE the way your hair looks with the end results, so I just have to try this looks out.

Only if it turns out good will I post a vid response...[crossing my fingers..]

    WE'LL SEE!!

    thx

  • Thanks doll! Its always easier to work with an instructional video if you have similar hair. I hope it turns out for you!

  • great video! That's how I do mine too :)

  • Thanks lovely, its so much easier I find!

  • Great video, you explain everything so well! I'm off to try pin curls now :)

  • Thank you, I'm relieved that its informative and well explained :)

  • What's on your lips? They look so full and pretty and l ush :)

  • Thanks! Gingeroot cremestick liner from MAC and Prrr lipglass from MAC.

  • I'm def. trying this tonight! I have a feelin it won't turn out very well, though.

  • You never know, it may just turn wonderfully. Keep at it :)

  • Absolutely gorgeous - you are mighty talented and have gorgeous hair!

  • Why, thank you! You're very kind to say so.

  • Thank you!! :D I will try this out most definitely.

  • Great, I would love to see it! :)

  • Did you show the result? Cause I didn't see it :(

  • No, there is a seperate video for the end result with styling. I just uploaded it but had to take it down because I couldn't use the Frank Sinatra song I put in it. So, it will be up in a few hours :)

  • This is GREAT! Thank you for this tutorial.

Btw - I love your haircolor. Do you dye?

    What dye to you use?

    You are an awesome teacher!

  • No problem, thank you!

Yes, I do dye it at the salon. My colorist uses to different red colors to get my bright, copper red. I'm not sure how she does it but I did take a picture of Nicole Kidman from Moulin Rouge into the salon so she had a visual.

  • Cool - thanks. I do love her hair color in that movie.

I'll have to take something similar in - though red is such tough up-keep; especially in the heat.

  • your curls always look wonderful! I'm so glad you're doing tuts for hair too! :)

  • Thanks love! I'm glad you like it.

  • This is a fabulous tutorial, it is really helpful as I have always wanted to try pincurls, but didn't know how! So thank you, I will be trying this very soon! <3

  • Wow, thanks! I'm really glad the tutorial will be helpful. I want to see everyone's video response when they try it!

  • Wow you are absolutely stunning. So classy and beautiful!

  • Thank you so much :)

  • i love all your videos, and im def gonna try this =]

  • Aw, I'm glad! Post a video response when you do. I'd love to see!

  • I need to pratice pin curls more. They take sooo long for me to do, but apart from using Hot Sticks, they are the only curl that stays in my care without falling out in a few hours.

  • Me too. I had to fix it this morning, trust me. Aren't they great? For someone who is lazy like me, they stay in so long with little work after they're out!

  • Doh! I accidentally added a comment w/out spellcheck...I meant to say I have no natural curl but since your pincurl experiences and mine are so similar, we must have very similar hair texture. This is a great job! ( Feel free to delete my other comment , by the way...)

And yes, you are so damn gorgeous! The glasses make you look like Gene Tierney in The Ghost and Mrs Muir. You remind me of her, anyway.

  • Yes, my hair us very thick and coarse ans tends to be dry. I can't use product like you because of the frizz. Thank you so much, that is one of the best compliments I have ever received. I wish I was as flawless and beautiful as Gene. You're so sweet!

  • Indeed. Product does increase the frizzies. I can't figure out how it works so well for StrawberryKoivintage...Her hair must just be naturaly silky due to her Asian heritage.

  • I always have to add so many things to my hair just so it looks shiny. It can be very dull, especially with my natural hair color. I don't think I'll ever go back, lol. I wish I had to texture. The only time I got close was when I dyed my hair black for 5 years. It always looked so soft.

  • This is great! I was just asking my mom if she would pin curl my hair today LOL.(she is the pin curl queen) I have shorter hair so it will probably turn out like you said, Shirley Temple. But I'm ok with that because I CANNOT get a curl to hold in my hair, not even with heat. Will see if it works lol, cross your fingers for me :P

  • Great tutorial! I wish my hair was long enough to wear like that! Lol:)

  • Thanks love! You can, but you will probably come out with more of a thirties, Chicago-esque bob! It would look lovely :)

  • Can't wait to see the finished product. I wish I had longer hair so I could try this myself :)

  • Thank you! You can do it with shorter hair, depending on the length. It will probably turn out more like a bob with a very taut curl though.

  • Amazing!i have always failed at pin curls! but now that you have basically spelled it out for me i am so gonna try this, this weekend!

  • Aww, good! I'm glad. It can be tricky, even if you have done it more than once. I hope it isn't too dark and that the tutorial is detailed enough for you to grasp the main technique!

  • no it is perfect i totally understand now where i have basically made my major mistake in the past! so thank you!
