These old B&W popeye cartoons were a hoot to watch. Brings back memories of watching these in the summer when I was a child back in the mid over CH17 WPHL here in Phila. Pa.. Wish some cable channel wouldn't mind showing a marathon of them and some of the A.A.P. color ones. These still crack me up after all of these years compared to today's trash.
beginning at 4:41. Me and my brother always laugh our asses off seeing the part where they chase after the spinach can while making mock-japanese sounds.
Thumbs up if you couldn't help laughing at the scene.
Hahaha..."I've never seen a Jap that wasn't yellow!" Great cartoon. You have to put yourself into the 40s frame of mind to appreciate it, though, since it is pretty racist by today's standards.
I am Japanese and have nothing against this cartoon - I actually like it! It reflects a different time when Japan and the US were at war. The Japanese likewise had propaganda containing stupid American stereotypes. Personally, I'm glad both Japan and Germany lost the WWII. Their countries were both run by wicked, fanatical dictators. You think our world is bad right now? If the Nazis and Imperial Japan won the war, it would be Hell.
@frtw4428 I agree I am from Germany and I am currently researching US Propaganda during WWII and how it reflects the governments policy. The people behind these monstrosities needed to be stopped.
I find the Japanese culture and language fascinating. Unfortunately the only thing I know about Japan I have learned form Books and manga. I hope I will one day have the chance to go to Japan
@AlSidre I'll think you'll like visiting Japan - hope you get a chance to see it. It's a lot different than what you'll read about (at least in the mangas!). Tokyo itself is a giant hi-tech "Megapolis." I prefer quieter places which reflect Japan's natural beauty. Try Nagoya, Hakone, and of course, Mt. Fuji ("Fuji-san" as everyone here calls it).
@frtw4428 I have all respect for Japanese and I understand why many are against stereotypes these days, but you have a big point there. All would be hell if Germany and all the others won. I just wish so many lives didn't have to die or suffer through it all. After reading about Hiroshima from those who survived and saw everything that went on after the bomb, it goes to show that war really is Hell
thumbs up if you are watchin this in 2012....

It was a time of war. When, if you lost, your livelihood and future were gonee....thats why it's okay to be racist if it means.victory
