Was Gyruss rereleased on the SNES with different music?
I played the Commodore 64 version of Gyruss and it had this music. I remember seeing a port of the game and was disappointed that it didn't have the classic Bach remix. That's why I'm wondering whether it was on the SNES that they replaced the theme, rather than the NES.
fuckin rights, this shit rules, sucha sweet game back in the day. I musta beat it like a 50 times, haha. It really felt like a sci fi alien shooter in so many ways.
One of the first NES games I ever played. Kind of spoiled me, I wondered why so few games were able to have equally badass soundtracks (and why virtually all the others that did were Mega Man games LOL).
Ultra is actually a subsidiary of Konami used to get around strict North American licensing rules. The fact that they reversed the code is pretty interesting.
I'm actually referring to the 1-up cheat after defeating each boss. You have to position yourself at certain points on the screen (the equivalent of numbers on a clock, starting with 1). You'll hear the 1-up sound effect if you did it correctly. As for the Konami code, that is actually done in reverse.
Anybody else know about the secret 1-up technique? Best kept secret in the cosmos. My bro made it to the frickin Sun, man! I can only make it to Mars at best. By far one of the best NES games EVER!!!
@Camwi The original game music was fairly heavily based on a version of Bach's Toccata in D minor by a British band called Sky (no relation to the soul band Skyy) which featured classical guitarist John Williams (no relation to the Star Wars composer). Sky's version of Toccata was released a short time before the game came out.
My mom used to play the fuck out of this game when I was little. I think I remember sitting and watching her play, and she'd get really pissed at the last boss.
Opening (From J.S. Bach's "Toccata and Fugue in D Minor"), Start BGM (From J.S. Bach's "Toccata and Fugue in D Minor"), and the Main BGM (From J.S. Bach's "Toccata and Fugue in D Minor")
I remember Gyruss! The music to it was very addictive, I love it. BTW, to the person who asked earlier the composers I see listed in my NSF file are Uetaka, Hujio, and Sakamoto.
I got this game when I needed some games for my new yobo nes,I looked randomly around the store and found this game. I didn't really know anything about it, but I picked it up anyway. OMG i will never regret getting this highly fun and addicting game! The funny this is that when I got it, Due to the misleading font on the cartridge art, I thought it said GYAUSS
Gawd, this game drove me up the wall. I remember *hearing* the music, but not quite *listening* to it because the game frustrated me so much. lol. It's not too bad.
back in the early 80's, Gyruss taught us the importance of music in videogames. I'm not pretty sure if when I was a kid, I spend the coin to play the game or to hear its music.
wtf stage 1 is normal but wtf stage 2 has those round thing gyruss on the xbox 360n and gba dont have that

Nintendo 3DS? A 3-D update of this game with updated music? Think about it. THINK about it for a minute. Am I right?

The Konami code is as follows:
up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, B, A= 30 lives.
The Gyruss game reverses it like so:
A, B, right, left, right, left, down, down, up, up=30 lives.

it sounded 34 times better on CBM 64

The C=64 had worse graphics, but yes, the NES music blows.
Of course, the arcade is the best, and with MAME - why would you even want to play the crappy ports?

Anyone know where I can find MP3s of these songs? I want to make some Gyruss ringtones.
FleshPeeler 2 years ago
Wow, so the music is based around Bach's work? That's pretty badass.
Camwi 2 years ago 16
I take it that's why none of the NES bands have covered it. I always thought it would have sounded great if the Minibosses or NESkimos played it.

Yes it was Bach,
The songs he wrote were used these BGM's:
Opening (From J.S. Bach's "Toccata and Fugue in D Minor"), Start BGM (From J.S. Bach's "Toccata and Fugue in D Minor"), and the Main BGM (From J.S. Bach's "Toccata and Fugue in D Minor")
