4.6mm is smaller than a 22 caliber bullet. Thats not going to stop anything even if you can penetrate armor.

@loggerbomb He's basically saying that if you have to face an attacker without body armor the 9mm will be more effective being as it will make a bigger wound channel. These tiny fast rounds designed to penetrate armor are great but the trade-off is the small light bullet isn't very effective on tissue. The main point is that they get thru the armor though because if they don't then you're in trouble.

Though I thought in testing the round had decent tumble and was effective on bare tissue.Personally, I'd rather have a round that would penetrate armour than one that wouldn't necessarily. I mean when facing an attacker you are not just going to shoot him once, your going to shoot him until he is dead, so to me the slight variance in wound size is not a concern.

@loggerbomb It may have but if you compare the 4.6 AP round to a quality 9mm hollow point round the 4.6 won't even come close to the same tissue damage. The primary way a bullet kills, outside of a CNS hit, is blood loss. The more tissue that you can tear the faster your attacker bleeds and is no longer a threat. Your point about having the capability to penetrate armor is valid though. A bigger bullet is of no use if it is stopped by armor.

@aaron4820 they're were testing for penetration capability .Helmets are made to be more impenetrable than standard body armor against projectiles. If the 4.6mm could go right through the helmet, it will be able to do it to body armor aswell.

So as a science show, to effectively make a point, they should have at least kept all 3 test subjects to be constant, otherwise it's completely meaningless...
