  • =O ! THE SPEED OF THE FEET MOVEMENT!

  • Gods, I can't stop watching this video! One of my favorite things EVER, possibly the best version of this solo that anybody's ever done. Sooo incredibly steamy!

  • By gosh! she is good- and beautiful!

  • @ILoveFriedFetus ... Dear Cannibal: I re-read my french-to-english translation from six months ago and nowhere could I find a mention to the Russians "owning" ballet. Can you please tell me where it is? But now that you mention it, I could believe this of the french, but the dutch and chinese? give me a break!

  • sylvie guillem is a goddess. she is everything that i aspire to be as a dancer. her technique is flawless. but i can only ever wish to advance to a level of such high caliber, because i cannot imagine anyone, let alone myself, ever achieving the same greatness. i can simply watch in awe and that will have to be enough.

  • @SwanPrincessXXI

What I'd like to know is what SwanPrincessXXI is saying in Russian.

I can recognize the letters but not the words! (can somebody translate the words?)

I tend to believe that Russians are authorities on ballet, since they have the greatest ballerinas in the world, so it would be very interesting to know what she has to say about Sylvie.

  • @flubished that's a myth. the russians do not "own" this art. please check some of the french, dutch and chinese dancers. people tend to think of russia as the producer of all the top primas, but that couldnt be farther from the truth.

  • @solokevin

    The French man says:

"an iron will, a perfect technique, a great beauty and incomparable gracefulness give the impression that everything is easy, and what legs! One of the greatest ballerinas of our century. A veritable delicacy!"

Evidently the french man is correct!

    You are welcome.

  • keeps leaving me breathless

    so f****ing perfect

  • I gotta study with her!

  • She is such an extraordinary dancer!!

  • @Flippables What? This is Raymonda!

  • @cpalmerston It is just my personal opinion, but I like Mariinsky Raimonda much better. See how Lopatkina dances it and you will know what I mean, although you may still disagree with me.

  • This is very old , but still beautiful ....

  • When she does those hand claps, it's so commanding! It's like - bitch you better pay attention - and then she intoxicates you back into submission again... so beautiful and controlled and amazing!

  • Gives me chills!

  • she is soooo amazing !

  • what does the man say in french?

  • @solokevin He says "When she appears... When she appears, the music gets through to you bugs-nibbled-like : blame on the press photographers, doing everything that is to ruin your delight"

"She" reffering to Sylvie, naturally :D

  • Une volonté de fer, une technique parfaite, une grande beauté et une grâce incomparable donnant l'impression que tout est facile, et quelles jambes! Une des plus grandes ballerina de notre siècle. Un véritable délice!

  • the best

  • She must have legs of steel!

  • This is so intense! All I can say is wow.

  • Злая и вульгарная кобыла, которая понятия не имеет, о чем она танцует!

  • she is just amazing in this video. energy like a tiger or a black panther on a hunt, moving graceful like a down feather in a warm summer breeze. but there is also something very lascivious about her. like sex for your eyes :) and nevertheless you still see her intelligence and brightness in her movement.

    GREAT!

  • Those arches..... oh wow....

  • She is a virtuoso. Above all other variations of Raymonda!

  • I love that you can actually here her clap. It just adds emotion. She changes little things and add nuances that one else does and it just exudes beauty

  • @VivaLaBeauty22 and if it is I am going to scream if this gets taken off because I can't get enough of this video

  • @VivaLaBeauty22 why would it be illegal? it's not the balanchine version, there is go gestapo :)

  • very nice Esmeralda!

No way can it be a princess!

  • @zakales I believe this from the ballet Raymonda

  • Ca fait longtemps qu'on a pas eu une danseuse comme ça à l'Opera de Paris.

  • her arches.. ahh i adore this lady!!!!!!!!!!

  • I could watch this ten million times and NEVER get bored. She's so captivating with her performance quality. And the fact that she's badass with her technique helps too.

    She. Is. Not. Human.

  • @ilovebenton I SOOOOOOOOOOOO love your comment! You seem to be somebody I MUST get to know better!!!

  • i still cannot believe that she actually did that. sylvie......i love thee

  • I can't say anything; just WOW!!!! (sorry for my english)

  • its not just her body its her whole persona that really makes this incredible!!

  • WONDERFUL!

  • She is not HUMAN!!!!!!!!

  • Just took my breath away. Everything about this is stunning and more especially the fabulous footwork that speaks absolutely of the Paris Opera training! Thank you so much for sharing!

  • I have seen Sylvie doing this live in London. The whole Covent Garden was keeping his breath, no one moved, we were all like frozen. She created a moment of ultimate beauty, ever such french class, glamour and cristalline perfection. And the bow is priceless, so chic. After seeing her on this it is very difficult to see anybodyelse

  • @fabiolousful I saw Makarova in Raymonda live way before I saw this performnce - Makarova for me wins hands down. Her bearing and arms alone totally awesome. Her Swan Lake too made us all hold our breathat the ROH she 'rippled' and created such a mirage, like the set was moving, but it was her! Still, we are lucky to see such great dancers, what ever their nationality/training, aren't we?

  • Probably my favorite interpretation of this variation -- her pointes are so incredibly strong and articulate!

  • This dance is just a work of art from top to bottom. Everything about it is magnificent.

  • i have always loved her feet. i would kill to have them

  • Wow this girl is to die for! Her legs, feet, and grace are definately worth watching. The company tht I am drool over you when we watch u and our teacher is like think of sylvie ladies!! Anyways you inspire me sooo much :)

  • I prefer Natalia Makarova's arms and hand movements in this variation of Raymonda to those of Sylvie Guillem.

BTW, Makarova does not audibly clap. This is more than a simple stylistic difference. Natalia's approach to Raymonda is both proud and very regal. There is nothing overt to indicate any kind of folk dancing in her interpretation.

  • Makarova's version is very beautiful, but i do think that had to do more with the style of the choreography rather than the dancer herself.

Makarova is a great dancer, and this is not to offend anyone, but I find that Sylvie Guillem's amazing work is just not incomparable to any other dancer.

  • you can? as in really? extracting the sound. do you need to download anything?

  • If you have firefox, get the DownloadHelper add on. After you've downloaded the movie extract the sound with AoA audio extractor

  • This Raymonda is so different from the one by Irina Kolpakova. This is so sharp and strong while the other is so tender and graceful. How come it is so different? (at first I thought this was not Raymonda at all!?!)

  • Because this is the Nureyev version.

  • I'ts those leans that she does ... omg ... absolutely exquisite.

  • She's the only dancer since Kirkland to have that "STAR" thing going for her. If there were more dancers like this then ballet would gain in popularity again.

  • @jondavwal Kirkland???????? wow you are really ballet savvy (that was sarcasm in case you won't get it)

  • @jondavwal Couldn't agree more. Her port de bras alone is "worth the price of admission," but everything else is dazzling, as well. She and Gelsey are really incomparable.

  • the best and most beautiful balerina this days...

  • Probably the very best the 20e century has produced!

  • Please if someone can e-mail me this music i would be really thankfull!!!!!

  • eleniyen, google search "youtube to mp3" and you can extract the audio from any youtube video

  • Buy Raymonda, Act three:Variation IV

Moscow symphony orchestra & alexander anissimov

    Glazunov: Roamonda (complete ballet)

    .. off itunes

  • This is addictive. best ballerina of all time

  • heeee ! J`ai dansé sa l`année passé <3

  • she just makes me want to get up and do dome streches. she is so inspiring and easy to watch.

i love her burres(-misspelled) and her

  • bouree

  • yeah, uhmm...

    thanks.

  • and i totally agree with you. her dancing is so calm making the dance look really easy, and her bouree's are so elegant it looks like she's just drifting - soft yet strong and gentle yet so sharp.. sylvie guillem is a truly amazing ballerina.

  • And her feet are absolutely beautiful

  • Shes is greatest dancer I love her.

  • Shes is greatest dancer I love her.
