I'm afraid I have to concur with other's observations. As much as I liked Garland in many of her performances, she seemed to be phoning this one . As a singer myself, as she took her mark, you can see she just wasn't into the delivery. By this time in her career, she had way too much vibrato and modified the high notes. I interviewed her daughter Lorna for a radio show of mine some years back and I'm afraid she was possessed by some of the same demons. The interview never aired!
Cool, breezy & hypnotic, Judy is in glorious form making "More" a timeless classic with her sublime soulful performance...mesmerizing rich vocal filled with passionate yearning, Garland simmers thoughout building to a note that nails it at the end only as Judy could do...Bravo!
Although I believe Ms. Garland was one of the greatest talents of all time, I think this particular arrangement of MORE is the worst I've ever heard. She's good. The arrangement is uninspired and plodding. She would have been much happier with a version like that of Bobby Darren. It's just all too serious and makes the simple song seem lackluster for all the over-produced orchestration. That's probably what she didn't like about it.
@toddsherry Thanks for your thought-provoking comments. I agree that the arrangement is a bit too ploddy. If only 'they' (producers, musical directors) allowed Garland to sing more jazz, so that her improvisational style could be demonstrated.
esta cancion demuestra lo importante de ser buen compositor.solo las grandes lo pueden cantartodas buenisimas.un caudal de expresion humana.fuerte.muy fuerte.cada cantante es un MORE.
With Judy you not only heard her sing a song but she was also an actress whose facial expressions constantly changed to suit the number she was singing.
We've all read that she didn't much care for this song, but "sang the hell out of it anyway!" Indeed! And you can tell she's kind of amused by it. It looks to me as if she is fighting breaking into a laugh. In great voice here, however! Very full-sounding.
Judy was sometimes criticized for always singing the "same" songs (I think her concert audiences would have rioted had she not!), and this one was one of several "new" ones which she did during her show's run. Very pretty!
Than you for posting this..one of my favourites, great quality too, Judy looks a little tired around the eyes..but I love the way she walks onto the set and up to her position with the look of 'right lets do it then' written all over her face, and delivers the song perfectly.
I'm sorry but by this time in her career she is not just phoning it, she is high as a kite and about to crash.

It was the schlock tune of the day, and she did what she could with it.

Such timeless beauty... she had (and HAS) more talent in her pinky than many of the "singers" of the week we have now.

@waif55 The truth is that Judy could have sung the listings in a telephone directory, and given it emotive meaning

Chunky: Haha - yes - exactly that look. And after she culminates - there is this sensation of having been exposed to something larger than life...
