I almost think this could stand to be a bit more jarring, annoying, whatever, to really sound like DJ Sharpnel.

This almost sounds too pleasant, lol. If you crank that female vocal's pitch up two octaves, then increase the bpm a little bit, I think it'd be even more like Sharpnel. It's not Sharpnel if your ears aren't bleeding a bit.

There's a long story behind "You". The honest original is a background piano piece from the video game of Higurashi no Naku Koro ni. One of the voice actresses then made a worded version called You - Visionen im Spiegel, which is performed by Yuzuki. Then each main character was given a version of it with different lyrics and arrangements sung by their voice actors, which is the Dear You series. Tada, there you go makexmexpieces, if you haven't found that all out by now. XD

The drum kicks Sharpnel is experimenting with is there to add a flow of beats. Basically I'm stating he's incorporating breakcore and drum and bass elements. It's not the stand 4/4 drum kicks. It adds interest to the rest of the song. It really adds if you ask me. It's just about finding the right pattern.
