i appreciate the effort you guy's put into this but............you truly miss the meaning of this song..for what ever reason.....please stop doing this song your way......let Warren rest in peace....
This is the coolest cover ive ever seen...in a way its even better than the original, luv it! (: it would do with some tabs XD for the guitar...really underated this video is
You jackass. You took a poignant song written by a guy pretty much on his death bed and turned it into something cheaper and tackier than christian rock. you suck.
I disagree with bill cause the dropkick murphys version of amazing grace rocks.. but yes.. this cover is absolute refuse and these guys should be shot
i dunno... these guys sound pretty good together, and at least they choose good tunes to cover, but this is just too far off. that being said, they dont all deserve to be shot. maybe just the fiddle player.
I was too lazy to turn the volume off as I wrote this comment. They turned a great, touching song into something that could be played during a 90's sitcom...
While I'm all for people promoting the music of Zevon, this sorta sounds like Zevon meets Crowded House (bleugh). Strangely upbeat considering the lyrics.
I read once that Zevon liked to drive round playing 80's Euro pop very loud, not sure he mentioned having them cover his songs!
How does the choice of song determine ones understanding of the lyrics? I think if this artist had done and exact cover, it would have been fine. But, the fact that they took a beautiful song and put thier own twist to it is more of an honor. If you knew anything about music and art you would know that it is common practice. Ever heard of the "Star Spangled Banner"? Everyone puts thier own twist on it. Does that mean they understand the lyrics even less? Try thinking for yourselves fellas.
I couldn't agree. They could have chosen one of his older songs to play for fun. The lyrics are way too serious to play like this. And this guy have no sense of what the song is about.
I tend to agree with RattInnacage - this was the first song Warren wrote when he was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer; "Shadows are falling, and I'm running out of breath". He was a clever lyricist. He wrote this song about leaving as in dying, and they make it sound like leaving as in "Well, I'll be moving on..."
Warren's songs had depth, and you need to see right to the bottom of them before you sing them. The version on 'Enjoy Every Sandwich' - that's how to honour the man.
In conclusion, regardless of the tempo or 'interpretation' of this particular song, to play it is an honor to the deceased writer Warren Zevon and to play it well, even more so!
In response to the last comment- I have listened to both this version and the original, and feel that the message is the same in both. In fact, the first time that I heard this song, (via this rendition by the Buzz Meade Band AND not knowing the background of the writer) I was nearly moved to tears just by listening to the lyrics.
I just had to stop this about one minute into the video. I'm not sure if this band had any idea of the meaning of the words. Different interpretations are one thing, but totally ignoring the context of the lyrics .... I'm not exactly sure what to think. The interpretation is just so off base, the song ends up having no meaning what-so-ever.
I'm not even sure that my comments make a lot of sense. It's just that I'm so appalled by this recording. I just wish I could give it 0 stars.
Took a sad song and made into something you would put on the soundtrack of a Disney movie during the end credits. Fuck you die slow.

No, the words are accurate -- Warren says "think of me and smile." He would.

its just a different way to interpret it, warrens version says everyone once in a while think of me and shed a tear, this is think of me and smile

I like this. They put their own unique spin on it rather than just attempting to copy Zevon's version.

Why is this listed under Zevon. This is total J Arthur!
