  • any1 notice this is a darker version of adventure time?

  • this trailer is really awesome

  • Imagine if bakshi and miyazki would have made a movie together, that would be awsome but would never happen

  • this movie is awesome props Ralph Bakshi.

  • Horst Wessel Lied in animaion movie, how awesome is that? :)

  • One of my favorite movies and I still have it on VHS?! I know wtf is VHS...

  • I USED TO TRIP SOOOOO FRKN HARD TO ALL OF RBZ FLICKS AND TRUST ME THIS MOVIE IS ONE OF THE BEST TO DO SO LOL..:D

  • can someone find the song that starts at 0:22 ?

  • Ralph Bakshi is obviously on the best animation and live action directors ever

  • i think i know the reason why the film had such a short budget,

Raggedy Ann & Andy was being produced at the same time as Wizards, and Raggedy Ann went highly over budget not allowing 20th century fox to give more money to Bakshi

  • @aquelescaraaaaaaaaaa Ya know, it also happens that 'Star Wars was being made by Fox at about the same time as this flick, .. and it's always struck me that they both shared a few similar ideas ( like people riding on saddled alien beasts for one thing ).

  • @Skulldini it may share some similar ideas, but im talking about the animation department. Raggedy Ann was suposed to be Fox first animated film, but went highly over bugdet and missed the deadline, making wizards fox first animated film

  • Ralph Bakshi knows how to animate Women watch Firea and Ice ;)

  • @DrLeonardBonesMcCoy Well, I've noticed that his style of illustration & animation got alot more naturalistic in his later and more big budget flicks ( including Fire and Ice ), wheres his early style was much cruder and more expressive I think.

  • there is some scenes that were never used in the actual film...

  • COBALT 60

  • Who thinks this movie is like a cross between Fist of the North Star and Ferngully?

  • @EmpireEarthPlayer93 Like this is not crappy.

  • disney on crack

  • My favorite Bakshi film! Its also my fav retro-fantasy animation!

  • @AungUnElric

If you liked this movie, i recommend these similar movies: Heavy Metal, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind (aka Warriors of the Wind), Fist of the North Star (1986 anime version), LightYears (Gandahar), Time Masters and Mad Max Trilogy, seen them?

Do you believe this movie is also an environmentalist animated film too? there are themes about it.

  • @Johnlindsey289 I've seen Heavy Metal and Gandahar. I liked some of the stories in Heavy Metal (Harry Canyon, Captain Sterrn and Den), others I thought were kinda weak, although I adored the Moebius styled animation in Tarrna. I thought the way all of the stories were tied togeather was kind of unnessicary and stupid though. Still a very interesting film.

And I abosolutey adore Gandahar. Wizards deffinatly is an environmentalist movie but it has alot of other messages too.

  • @AungUnElric

Have you seen Akira or Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind by Hayao Miyazaki/Studio Ghibli? similar post apocalyptic animated movies only Nausicaa is Sci-fi fantasy like Wizards with the same film ideas and message, rent it. Patrick Stewart is in it as a voice as is Chris Surandon and Edward James Olmos.

  • @Johnlindsey289 I'm not even a big anime fan but Nausicaa is quite the beautiful story :) And the fact that it has not only Patrick Stewarts voice but also Uma Thurmans makes it quite cool too.

I think that both the Heavy Metal characters Den and Arzach (the magazines seed for Taarna) deserve their own full length, hand-drawn films.

  • @AungUnElric

Do you find wizards similar to Nausicaa? same plot about the world devested by nuclear war and there is a special person to help clean it up and make it breathable and that kind of thing. Miyazaki is an awesome filmmaker eh?

  • @Johnlindsey289 Yeh, Nausicaa deffinatly has some similar traits that wizards has.

And yes, Miyazaki is a great visonary.

  • no one else noticed the fairy whore showing off her nipples?

  • @MrLadyGaGa838 its a common thing in Ralph Bakshi movies, you have to get used to it.

  • @MrLadyGaGa838 most women have them, even some men, alot of which arent prostitutes

  • @meeces13 lol

  • @MrLadyGaGa838 seriously your name is mr lady gaga its laughable that you would say that with a name like that and doesnt everyone have nipples? i heard women in africa go without shirts oh no more whores, dumbass

  • This movie truly is awesome. My favorite by Bakshi.

  • the princess reminds me of one of vaughn bodes broad characters as does necron 99 who reminds me alot of cobalt 60

  • disgusting

  • Looks like America's original answer to anime. Now days American cartoons that want to have an answer to anime actually adapt the same drawing style but have sucky plots. Back when Wizards was made, they answered the Japanese people's animes with American cartoons that were just as violent, making them not always appropriate for kids, but kept the American drawing style, just the opposite from now days.

  • Nazis, Wizards, Nazi Wizards. Hnnng!!!!!!

  • This movie was awesome. I think it was one of the first American anime movies with adult themes.

  • i have the movie on dvd and i watch it almost everyday XD

  • Check out my video, uses filtered live action, rotoscoping and public domain footage.

    a must for Bkshi fans.

  • I guess he made this LOTR rip-off after he couldn't make the second part of his Lotr movie.

  • @tutu1987 This was actually BEFORE LOTR believe it or not.

  • @Headbanger142 Whatever, still sucks. And he could still steal the idea from the book

  • @tutu1987 Steal what idea exactly?

  • aweyeah.. Princess Eleanor animated titties.

  • @gonzapalo

Do you think she's as hot as Crysta from Ferngully?

  • This is the best movie trailer of all time. For any movie. Ever.

  • Comment removed

  • Just saw this movie.

It was hands down amazing! greeat story! and animation!

  • Is that Joan Rivers doing the VO?

  • THEY KILLED FRITZ!

  • @SuperAdamMan64

The joke in the film is a take that against Robert Crumb for killing off Fritz the Cat when he found out that the film was made without his knowledge.

  • @pixargod

Yes it is an in-joke of sorts. Does this remind you of a gory version of Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind? same kind of enviromentalist animated movie with Sci-fi/fantasy themes

  • This might just be the most over-looked fantasy film ever... It works on so many levels! it can be veiwed as haunting and serious and at the same time, can be a riot to watch!!!

It makes me wish that the studio had more faith in this film and gave Bakshi a bigger budget. Not that the finished result wasen't awseome, it was, I just think Bakshi should have been given more money to animated more parts of the battles, instead of roto-scoping most of it.

  • GENIUS STORY!

  • what the hell?!

  • This movie is just....Awwwwwwsome!!!

  • I finally watched this movie and it was great to hear Susan Tyrrell again, the montage scenes reminded me of the style I had to use for several college projects, and some interesting ideas were scattered about, particularly in the background designs. But overall it felt very jumbled, cheap in some spots, and it was hard to believe that it was supposed to be a "family film." It was nice the first time, but I wouldn't feel bad if I had to go some time without watching it again.

  • Best movie ever. Best narration ever! (at least the narration in film is...not trailer...which is a promo and contains no narration from film). Not best trailer ever though.

  • hmm throwing in serious material with cheap animation and horrible voice acting... interesting lol

  • @shaktiX hey man this is back in the 70's cut them some slack and besides I think the cheap looking animation works really well for his movies.

  • Awesome movie, i saw this 24 years ago when i was 6 with my big brother who rented this movie, Fire and Ice, Warriors of the Wind (aka Nausicaa), Starchaser Legend of Orin and Watership Down as i was exposed to mature audiences animated movies.

If you guys like this movie, i recommend Fist of the North Star, Fire and Ice, Princess Mononoke, Ferngully, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Winds, Akira, Heavy Metal, and Starchaser Legend of Orin for similar movies.

  • gotta be high to enjoy this..

  • this movie is a big WTF

  • A woman narrating a trailer? I can't think of any other trailers with a woman narrating it, unless it's something like Dune which had a woman narrating at the start so could be sampled for the trailer.

  • aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand I will watch once again - GO NECRON GO! my childhood hero :D

  • toward children for example as George Orwell's "Animal farm", and likewise, I watched it too. People should think about it, that not every animated movie is for children, and sometimes it can cause many bad memories, like why pigs sold a horse for a couple of jam jars. I am 25 and I will always hate that kind of filthy disturbing movies.

  • @yolenka707

Well Bakshi's movies and some of Japan's animated movies aren't for kids you know.

  • when I was about 5 my mother accidentally brought this movie with many more normal animated movies, and I was shocked, I watched it over and over again alternately with little mermaid and smurfs, and then she took it away, and I forgot the title, but it was like nazi propaganda movie to me. I was scared of it, and recently my friend found it - I told her it was ugly and rough, and my memory wasn't wrong. This movie shouldn't enter Polish movie rental places, because as animation it was charged

  • @yolenka707 Some of my favorite movies are the ones that frightened me as a kid. For you it was Wizards for me it was Cool World Ralph strikes everyone haha.

  • Everything happens for a reason. The Ramones made songs of one minute or so because at first they needed to use the recording studio the less possible, cause they didn't have money. What I mean, is that needs sometimes create new ways of making a piece of art, and that's what happened with "Wizards": it only got its freaky style of animation because of that. And it rocks!

  • What is this I dont even. Its like Im really tripping balls.

  • Rofl! "the future Führer"

  • *THE MASTER OF ANIMATED MAGIC

*live action footage with a shitty filter over it*

    *slideshows*

*a handful of frame-by-frame animated bits all of which look generic and uninteresting*

lol I bet people only like this guy because OH MAN CARTOONS WITH VIOLENCE AND GORE SO REVOLUTIONARY (for its time)

  • @RaymondoPerson "live action footage with a shitty filter over it" it's called rotoscoping and it's a hand drawn copy of live action. Give them credit for what they actually did. It's not as if they could just click a photo shop filter. "frame by frame animated" How else do you animate? Anyway don't judge him by what is essentially a stoner film. he's done some genuinely good films that are well animated and don't rely on gore. Try 'American Pop'

  • @chazzplaya I know what rotoscoping is but a lot of the stuff in this trailer (like the bit at 0:13) doesn't even look rotoscoped, like they didn't actually draw over the live action footage or anything.

"How else do you animate?" ...okay you got me there

also, I guess I'll give that a try.

  • @RaymondoPerson "doesn't even look rotoscoped, like they didn't actually draw over the live action footage or anything.'

In defense of Bakshi in this regard, it's worth noting, mid-production, Wizards got slapped with some pretty harsh budget cuts (they weren't the only ones, really. It was going around 20th Century Fox at the time. George Lucas went to bat for him and also got his budget cut, albeit not as steeply.) So the 'just filtered over' parts here were forced by necessity, not sloth.

  • @DrugLordKai

To add to this (blasted comment length) as a further testimony to how stretched this film was for money near the end, some of those painted over sequences were actually lifted from films that had already been filmed prior (can't remember the full list. I seem to recall 'Zulu' and 'Patton' were two of the big samplers, and two of the easiest to spot therein.

  • @DrugLordKai plus the fact that the budget was so strained that a lot of the drawings and animations in this film were from the original pencil tests.

Although in retrospect a budget does force a certain creativity. Such as the "horses" in this film with two legs. They did that because two legs is easier to animate than four.

Though I do wonder how the film would look if Bakshi were given a bigger budget.

  • @DrugLordKai the rotoscoping wasn't that overused in this movie. it was used at two sequences, and it wasn't nearly as half-assly executed as say lotr at the hornberg scene

  • @chazzplaya

American Pop is awesome, now that i grew up with as a teen in the 90's with that movie and one of my faves. Wizards is very mild on the gore factor but if you want gorier animation try watching Ninja Scroll, Fist of the North Star, Elfen Lied, Urotsukidji Legend of the Overfiend, etc.

  • @RaymondoPerson

Oh nothing's more violent than some of the animated from Japan, THOSE are way more violent.

  • @RaymondoPerson ONE YEAR LATER: I mean YEAH, it's sort of what distinguishes him mostly, and what's wrong with that?

  • I'd probably have to be massively stoned to be able to (think I can) follow this..

Has all the Bakshi trademarks - rotoscoping, mental psychedelic scenery...

WTF is going on with the music though!! I assume this was just what was used for the traier...

  • wow....someone should make this movie again with today's animation resources...wow

  • @Gabycat no its fine as is.

  • 0:56

TASTE MY MAGIC FINGER OF DOOM

  • Wait. They call Ralph Bakshi the master of animated magic? And yet his previous film was Fritz the Cat i think. Huh.

  • Yea, but he also made Heavy Traffic and Coonskin before Wizards. Both fantastic and purely Bakshi.

On Fritz, he was using R. Crumb's ideas, to get his film career off the ground. Crumb was a hot commodity back then, so using his name helped Bakshi get the studios to let him make his first feature length. It made money based on the shock value of being the first X-rated animated feature length.

Bakshi's a hustler, no doubt, and helped turn Crumb off of film, but he's a visionary animator.

  • @NerdcoreMonkey

Of course Fritz The Cat was the first X-rated animated movie long before hentai, do you know what hentai is?

  • Great Trailer

  • Good movie. But what impressed me the most was the use of rotoscope.

  • I like ralph bakshi...though, he could have done much better with his interpretation of the Lord of the Rings...I feel he did an adequate job.

  • @Irishborne imo I like bakshi's lotr far better than jackson. at least he kept himself faithful to the book, with the exception of some the character designs... I would rather have a complete bakshi lotr than jacksons trilogy...

  • @tarkeke

I thought Jackson's movies were more faithful to the books than Bakshi's attempt or the last one by Rankin-Bass, they managed to keep the spirit of Tolkein. They are for fans of Tolkein and not for Bakshi fans.

  • @Johnlindsey289 rankin-Bass movies were HORRIBLE imo. peter jackson went on with his own direction too much.. so many changes to the story and even the characters.. many of the events felt like filler too me, especially the whole aragorn is "dead" stuff in two towers..it was ridiculous, and don't get me started on faramir

  • TRIIIIIIIPY!

  • This movie rocks! an old proto-type to the kickass Fist of the North Star with the similar storyline and all.

    Love htis one.

  • I think ralph bakshi was very high when he made those films.

  • what song is at the very begining

  • I'm finally here!!! Why am I here you may ask? I don't have a clue.

    Ah, forgot, this movie rocks!!!~!!!

  • UMMM...no, "what" was or "WHAT THE FUCK DID YOU TRY TO SAY?"

  • Your 17. You dont know shit!

  • your a fuck stick.

  • do I's got brain probles?

  • obviously you've never done any LSD.

  • This show is a trrrrippp...

  • haven't seen this one yet. The only Bakshi films i've got on DVD are "The Lord of the Rings" & "Fire & Ice".

  • Go get this movie. I found it on DVD a few years back. Now I want it on Blu-Ray.

  • I love dis movie, I like how it blends sci fi and fantasy elements. Bakshi needs a comeback.

  • The narrator sounds hot

  • It's Susan Tyrell, she's gorgeous!

  • Have any of the haters actually seen it? Cause it's a pretty cool movie...

  • this vid makes me wanna waste myself

  • yeah nazi wizards LOL

  • when I saw the nazi symbols in this trailer I falsely did the hitler salute.

  • I read an article about raphl taking some much acid to create this film. pretty cool

  • Look whoever thumbs downed me your a loser, raphl did take LSD creating many of his cartoons so fucking deal with if your anti-drugs.

  • dont worry bout it they thumbed down the guy who said "Coool..." too...

  • Coool...

  • i own this on vhs

  • awesome movie

  • ... I must find this movie... and watch it, so my mind may be truely screwed... seriously...

Tolkien World... with a Nazi wizard?

  • futuristic fantasy setting with links to world war II

  • The narrator sounds... bored.

  • @mangamadde She is heartbroken due to the events of this movie.

  • @mangamadde she sounds hot. You sound gay. Hug your mother.

  • @mangamadde

when you're emerging from a nuke holocaust, you ain't got no energy bro

  • @mangamadde it's the 'ludes man...

  • @mangamadde Nah, just stoned lol

  • @mangamadde If anything, she sounds depressed.

  • @mangamadde she sounds stoned

  • creepy ....but Cool

    O_o

  • Yeah this movie is fucking awesome!

  • holy shit!!!
