the interviewer is such a moron, he is doing his job objectively, he is on a witch haunt on this teacher that might not be a good writer, but has clearly had an impact on the classrooms where his books have been applied. The neuroscientists had a lot to criticize but I didn't hear any alternatives.
@caritotorres24 Letting children have a break in lessons and do a bit of physical exercise will work. It also has the added benefit of not giving part of a school's budget to a charlatan and not involving lying to children about the particular brand of magic he's peddling.
It's my opinion that Paul Dennison should have pressed a few brain buttonsor done a few exercises before he came on here for this interview - he came across almost as a complete charlatan, who'd have thought...
If this guy actually had a brain, he'd be dangerous. Actually, even without one he's managing to damage the good name of Science. He claims that holding water in your mouth enables it to reach your brain faster as it is absorbed through the roof of the mouth. Complete drongo.
And why is it that people who claim they "Just want to help people" seem to mostly want to help them clear out their bank accounts?
@ThatRandomGuy15 Not *another* brain gym zombie, *THE* brain gym zombie. He's he founder. And in 15 years of peddling this nonsense he hasn't even got his pseudoscience straightened to out to form a persuasive, let alone believable, argument. Flippin' heck...
This interview does the process and the activities of sensory integration a great diservice. For those of us with children who are labeled as slow, stupid, behaviour problems etc, the adding of activities that improve their wrting to legible and as such enable them to pass the written exams is not a joke. It is a godsend. So all of you who mock are very plainly niave about living with learning disablities and are just as uninformed as the interviewer.
@maxinehaller Hello. As a teacher who has worked extensively with children with learning disabilities I understand what you are saying but here is why brain gym is neither necessary nor sufficient for meeting your child's needs. There have long been a number of strategies available for stimulating sensory responses and processes which have been used with great success on children. And 40 years ago I had a teacher who put us through a morning routine which helped 'wake us up'.
@maxinehaller cont. All these without the totally laughable nonsense this man touts under the claim of science. He has borrowed heavily from these programmes (most of which are available to educations services at little or no cost) in order to make squillions of money. And he degrades science and interferes with the ability of kids to learn and understand science. Belief that just because you say something, it is true, is not science.
concerning the mans conviction that we are partly electrical, I ponder whether there is some logic to it, even if in a limited sense considering our nervous system, and the transportation of any given information between the connectors in the brain, as well as managing one's contemplation and handling such things as visual information, and cues sent across the nerve network throughout the body, and how neurological scans are able to display and analyse brain activity. pls remark
if there is some form of electrical message/cue/impulse activity occurring across the nervous system could one also investigate grounds for response demand or instruction by certain activity or applying pressure as an indicator.
pardon me to qualify my curiosity: I notice many behaviors and tendencies we have when doing things like trying to think, without actually considering of what benefit they are, like scratching the head or ...ctd
I was discussing peculiar tendencies we have that for reason of familiarity I haven't considered for thought, rubbing our chins or putting our forehead in our palms and so applying pressure. could there be innate little things that we do, habits without thought, ways the body of assists itself? could there be rational behind us putting our chin in our palms and biting our nails when we're seriously concerned. does me peering/squinting my eyes when...
Cntd from pt 3, to be inspected in order from pt 1 the beginning of my investigation.
I left off saying that often when analysing a serious/worrying issue in my mind I notice myself as with many folks peering/squinting my eyes, and I intended to speculate whether that in anyway was needed, yet I noticed that relaxing my eyes didn't allow me to get into that deep pensive state of drilling the issues, could changes in simple facial musculature influence brain chemicals...cntd
wait for it... I am merely inquiring. I am aware that putting a distressed or exceedingly frightened look on your face even for experiment stimulates stress chemicals in the brain.
When you tickle someone and they are unable to restrain you are directly sending impulses through nerve points that are signaling involuntary laughter activit that could potentially render someone defenseless. in other words points on the body that allow one to directly manipulate body function through nerves.
...such 'special points' or 'points where nerves are connecting' could explain the fingers below the collar bone, the idea then being if I can stimulate reactions in my body by stimulating / massaging certain nerve connections. I know that improved blood flow can be stimulated. to signal a certain muscle group to relax a nerve communication must be triggered/reach. by massaging or applying pressure I am initiating a reaction impulse/signal as I explained with tickling
so if contortions of facial muscles due to anxiety affect/trigger brain chemical production (e.g production of sad/warning/stress/ chemicals that encourage panic/hopelessness) relaxing those nerves and muscles through gentle massage would mean they would no longer be signaling the same brain alert that their fixation/contraction was so end stress chemical/indicator production and so restore brain function to normal operation, when your next stressed tense your neck muscles then release.
lastly to understand the hopping while touching the opposite knee and other body coordination things try the related video on the right titled 'Brain GYM' posted by utyaiu, its real challenging you'll enjoy some. it causes your mind to have to grow/develop flexible and unrestricted pathways to cope like muscles, therefore making you sharper and having better access to all the underutilized/untapped stores of your brain like learning to use the mouse left handed (can change in ctrl panel)

Look, there is a lot pseudo-science BS in the lingo with these guys. Yes.
However, all I know is that his exercises really, actually do work as advertised. Their descriptions as to WHY they work are pseudo-science, but the fact is that THEY WORK! For a hundred years, scientists had no idea HOW aspirin worked--- look it up! But, the fact was, Aspirin got rid of pain. It worked. Brain Gym does too. I don't know why, but it DOES!!!
Dennison is not a good advert for his ideas. It's a shame that Americans can't seem to get good independent journalism.
This also goes to show how children can just soak up anything they are told. This is why religion should be left until kids are old enough to think for themselves.
We need men like this in America. I have never seen such an display of awesome interviewer in my life. Contact the director of foreign transportation. We are going to import a Paxman!

The journalism on offer here is a gross example of cynicism and backward thinking. Paxman and the producers of this programme should be ashamed. Taking comments out of context, boorish and boring questions. And juvenile, cheap shots. The BBC ought to know better. Brain Gym exercises are available for no charge at all. Children, parents and teachers all over the world and in the UK learn better because of it and have a sense of who they are, physically, intellectually and emotionally. Wise up.
But it really doesn't matter how biased you think the journalism is... anyone who tells you that you can massage your carotid artery through your ribcage is demonstrably lying!
of course. anyone with even a kernel of knowledge would see straight through it (tou'd think) but i was lectured only the other day by a woman who sweas you can increase the oxygen to your brain by massaging you temples!?

News reporters like that should be fired. So stupid. I wonder if he believes in yoga, chinese medicine, qi gong, etc. Probably not, in spite of all evidence that supports it. I feel sorry for Paul, who helped so many people, if you read testimonials all over the internet.
If there is so much proof then why is it still called 'alternative medicine'? If an 'alternative medicine' is proven to be demonstrably effective it is no longer called 'alternative' and simply becomes medicine...
When a plant is proven to cure a disease it is no longer called 'alternative medicine', it becomes simply 'medicine'!
Exercise is great. Brain Gym is means of getting rich fast. If it's so wonderful I reckon Dennison should offer the exercise for free and not make such an obvious marketing scam from them. All kids should exercise and I'm sure no-one would disagree that fuelling the brain with oxygen is bound to have positive effects but all the "brain buttons" nonsense proves that you can get away with anything in the US!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
PSEUDO OR NOT, when someone buys into something that works for them, why knock it? BG is easy to implement for kids with special needs.... Like simplified yoga movements. I'm sure there are critics of YOGA, too. Dr. D is a highly-educated man, whom I have met. If you met him, or read his story, you would understand. We are so quick to criticize things.Have you tried it? When you see a child use a BG movement to control anger, you might then understand. Until then, read about the BG BENEFITS!
Why knock it? Because million of pounds of our money is being spent on complete quackery. No-one would deny that getting kids to focus and exercise helps them study better. But there's no such thing as a f#cking "energy yawn". And this dangerous bastard is making millions out of peddling complete bollocks. Just listen to him. Listen to this interview. He's a dick.

Of course exercise isn't a waste of money - but no one has a profitable trade mark on that which drains much needed cash from our school system. Also, what about the effect this is having on kids' science understanding? The first part of this clip shows these children spouting complete bullshit thanks to Brain Gym
