How have I never heard of these girls before. Marvelous work and voices. Brings back so many good memories. Music made these days just doesn't give me that same feeling. Classics, what beats them? x
@everybodylovesmyb... So funny that you guys were just recently talking about this verse, because I just learned of it as well and wondered why I had never heard it before either. I noticed it in the introduction of the sheet music I have for this song from Crawford Music Corporation, copyright 1935 -- so it's not unique to the Boswell rendition here.
I'm another who has just discovered the Boswell Sisters. The world doesn't know what it is missing by not being more aware of this genius trio. The melodic and rhythmic creativity, the faultless blend of voices, the underlying feeling of fun in every phrase. I feel like we've just regressed in pop music since this time, even though there are many different styles I like. Extraordinary.
If I'm reading the info on the leading Bozzie web site correctly, this song made to number 3 on the US pop charts in early 1936. The Boswell Sisters were hot during the previous 12 months, scoring several top ten hits. Then with a few months/weeks, they disbanded. The reason I read is that they "wanted to spend more time with their families." I wonder what they would have accomplished, if they had stayed together.
Like if you are listening to this song in 2012 :)

Awesome! I didn't know that Ella Fitzgerald was heavily influenced by the lead singer of this group.

@spoonido: I think that introductory verse is a Boswell creation. I've searched the lyrics on the internet, and haven't found it anywhere else.

I agree. I think it's fair to say that they sent pop and jazz vocals in entirely new directions.
