i dont know if its right to ask but i have a 19 gallon aqarium with one koi which is 3 inches big and two fantail both at 2 inch, for some reason my koi gets scared or spases out when i walk past the tank, all it does is swimms very fast and hurts itself by hitting the glass. could some one please tell me what i could do to calm the koi.
@mrasidhu I have two small koi in a tank as well.Oneof them(the newest one) does the same thing.I believe that it is where it is getting used to the fast motions of you being around tha tank.My other koi doesnt do it anymore which I have him for about a month now.The koi that are in my 625 gallon pond do the same thing. They just have to get sued to you.
Excuse me, what kind of koi is that burnt orange / black speckled one. thank you for your time, I have one of those but he's a butterfly koi. Thanks again.
Why not? It works! I have a Gourami and Angelfish living with my Goldfish, oh and yes, it's been over a year that they've been together with no problems =)I say let people be, it's not your business if he has an angel there or not, plus, realize that your comment won't change a thing.
Adding an airpump will do little. They are gasping because there is not enough O2 in the column of water to support that many fish. Koi need greater space to grow and develop. Even a point 6ft by 6 and 6 deep should only have like 10 or 11 koi in it> your aquarium is too small.
That should say "pond" obviously. Your going to start loosing fish when these babies reach near a foot - they won't be gasping for air because there will be so little, they will be dropping like flies. Read about koi please - google what they actually need - not what you think.
i have a little koi and its been acting really weird is like its completly off balance and he lays at the bottom of the tank and he swims side ways is it swim bladder? if so what do i have to do i have him in a hospitle tank feeding him some peas and i read a book and it told me to put some salt in it it said you can use table salt so i put a little of that in i hope he gets better ???

The koi is breathing rapidly, you need an air pump.
