  • if he was an eskimo and did that in an eskimo community they would throw him out... all the way to europe or america!!!

  • brutal! change your title!

  • I laughed!

  • yea jeff its a little different here

  • Hahaha, really funny comments in the end :)

  • professional

  • lol, thats hilarious!

  • yup. that's how the Eskimo did it.

  • Much more entertaining than most of the anal purists succeeding on here. Thanks - just having fun in a kayak and not showboating your pony-trick prowess... whatever next?!

  • You don't need a skirt to roll

  • hahaha dude you did not even try to roll

  • You can roll without a deck, you can also hand roll without a deck, you just need to be quick, there are no second chances.

  • i knew it wouldnt work when i saw you had no spray deck

  • duh. i'll work on that- thanks.

  • you need a skirt yo.

  • the kayak look s abit rough

  • teehee, funny XD

  • yep you right i dont know why you have a thumbs down

  • actually it is possible... i did it. i learned the roll by watching youtube and after some days of watching kayak videos i did it first try. its no big deal. if you watch the movement often enough you can do it automatically. watch and try!

  • this was awesome. mostly beacuse i actually thought i could learn an eskimo roll by watching youtube,i'll say i am the bigger idoit on this one!

  • I like the coment by the cameraman at the end haha

  • That is exactly how I do it. I guess I am good to go. LOL!

Seriously, can you roll a kayak like in this vid without a skirt? I have a Old Town Otter that I want to try to roll but I am not sure it can be done. I have cheap skirt but not sure it will hold out the water.

  • yep you can but the kayak will be half full of water

  • yer u can roll without out a deck but you got to be fast! No hanging about under there or you fill up with water!

  • I think you sent that to the wrong person, yes I know you can roll without because Ive done it tons of times and it only starts filling with water when air can get out of the canoe, I get in it upside down then roll it back

  • your kayak looks funny with that bomble bee look just put some wings on it but painting it is a bad idea it comes off and looks like shit

  • ... sinking when the boat is completely full, unless you have some air left or air bags. Some kayaks can still manage but likelihood of staying with no spraydeck constantly filling with water or with a full cockpit and you inside well it speaks for itself. BTW are yoou a member of any clubs? I am and i dont find that unless you are or have proof of decent skill that you should give advice etc. Most of the time this advice is more than likely going to be wrong. Just saying.

  • HEHEEE ))) thats pretty funny )) thanx for vid )))

  • again nice vid but it did say roll not swimmer!!!!

  • I thought it was pretty funny! Just some guys having fun. The rest of you people...Lighten up.

  • this is crap and mr camera guy, full rolls have no effect wether your in the northern or southern hemisphere or whatever. Oh and eskimos have nothing to do with kayaking, they just named a roll the eskimo roll. Do you seriously think eskimos have spraydecks etc. Pathetic!

  • ...The eskimos invented the roll to keep them out of the icy arctic waters when they were fishing. If they had to get out of the boat then they would probably have died. Also you don't need a spraydeck to roll.

  • He's my mate, (ZMAN) yes we, well i do know that eskimos did invent the roll to keep them out of the water when fishing. No you don't need a spraydeck to roll but i found that rolling without one causes the following. Extreme difficulty achieving the roll as your boat fills. Extreme difficulty paddling afterwards as your boat has a constantly shifting weight inside it that can cause you to end up in the drink again. A chance of your kayak sinking when the boat is completely full, read nex com

  • zman293 you got told..

  • ur stupid haha

  • go fuck yourself

  • Comment removed

  • aint hard 2 roll whitout a spray deck.

Onlything i think is hard when you roll whitout it is 2 stop. so you dont roll over agen

  • this guy really doesn't know what he is doing. Even without the spray deck, you are able to do an eskimo roll. The only hard thing about it is not letting the kayak sink when you get back up : ). Lol even i am able to do eskimo roll without spray deck

  • same

  • i can but then i go back the other way

  • dont you think thats pretty obvious? fair enough, shame the boats going to waste but its fairly clear to me that the guy is just pissing about so chill mate.

  • what brand of kayak is that?

  • That is what it looked like when I tryed it for the first time with no skirt on.

  • thats called capsising not rolling

and yes they do go all the way around

  • what the hell is that kayak lol!

    100000000000 years old:D

  • The deck basically just creates a flat surface around you on top of the kayak/canoe, just like the hull bottom looks. The skirt is what ATTACHES to the deck and comes up on your body to resist spray caused from waves/paddle strokes. 2 different things both working in conjunction to keep you dry.

  • captainnapalm

actually you have a spraydeck on a kayak learn the difference and you would no there isn't one apart from the material used and one is tighter than the other and you dont need a deck on to roll i can do it easy enough it just depends on how experienced you are

  • whats up captain cat got your tongue

  • you need a spray deck lol

  • hiya captain just to let you know that if you consult google images on spray deck it comes up with a deck also if you look in the practical guide to kayaking and canoeing pg 35 last paragraph demostrates how to fit a spray deck ohand by the way being a qualified instructor for nine years hmm im sure some where in that i know what im on about p.s shot down and wee'd on son

  • "dont they go all the way around?"

    haha perfect comedy

  • you kinda need a spray skirt, otherwise you'll take in a lot of water and it'll be almost impossible to right yourself.

  • its called a spray deck

  • Google spray deck and then google spray skirt. It's called spray skirt. Thanks for trying to share your knowledge, but unfortunately you fail. Next time make sure you know what you are talking about. On a canoe, it may be a spray deck, but on a kayak it is a spray skirt.

  • Yes CaptainNapalm is correct. ANd you definitely do need a sprayskirt to do it.

  • There is a vid on youtube of a guy that does it w/o a skirt, so it's not mandatory, but you need to be good.

  • wad is the function of the spray skirt?

  • A spray skirt keeps water out of the cockpit. it's usually a neoprene deal that fits tight around your waist, and the other end is roughly the same size as the cockpit opening and slips over a rim and is held tight w/a drawstring.

  • Spray skirt/Spray deck

They are the same thing really

I call mine a spray deck

But I have noticed other people calling is a spray skirt

It doesn't matter that much in my opinion

The neoprene spray skirts/decks donthave a draw string in my experiences but the material ones do as the neoprene should be slightly smaller than your cockpit so you have to stretch it on

  • Well, around here if you were talking to another kayaker and called it a spray deck they would probably say, "Oh, you mean a spray skirt."

  • hahaha

  • I think the trick is getting it back the right way up, I've managed to get it upside down without even trying ;-)
