The word "da3we" means "calling for somthing, promoting, or preaching someone to adopt a faith or a belief". However, since "son" is not a familiar word in the Lebanese dialect for me, I tend to believe that "da3we son" means "beat the crap out of them". Not a word for word translation but an interpretation. The word for word translation is "step on them" as an act ot beating up.
Lebanese are Phoenicians and Mediterraneans ONLY and nothing else. Lebanese-Phoenicians can NEVER be related to Arabs (who didn't even exist), Israelis, nomadic Hebrews, Africans or barbaric Westerners.
Lebanese people speak their own language and
have their own culture, separate from the surrounding Middle Eastern countries. Lebanese are descended from Phoenician origins, and are NOT so-called Arab.
is this a good teaching program??? i want to learn lebanese well. I did rosetta stone arabic but it is "classical arabic" and no one speaks that form. at the end of the cd's (1 and 2) of this program what can you say and how advanced can you get? if anyone knows please help.
I was thinking of the Amman dialect lol but yeah you're also right. There are different words used in all three places, but its all still technically a form of Arabic so I wrote "pretty" similar :)
I love it, espescially since you have the written so we can see what it sounds like when spoken...I wish I could see the writing a bit better against the pictures. Thank you very much for sharing this. Now I'll be able to impress the hot Lebanese guy I'm into :P Beautiful language!

Hi Daany-
You are right. That's why the common Beiruti accent is used in this vid and the cds on Learn-Media site.
mishighlak 2 years ago
mishighlak,
In the Beiruti dialect, when you say "I want",
am I supposed to say "baddi" or "biddi"?
I hear both and I'm a tad confused. lol
justmine4me 2 years ago
I would say "Baddi". I heard it and spoke that way while I was growing up in the vicinity of Hamra street in Beirut.

Daany3ll,
If you don't mind me asking, where in Lebanon are you from?

this is a pure informal language i.e. The dialect spoken in Beirut (the most common spoken dialect).
mishighlak 3 years ago
How much different is this dialect you're teaching (Beiruti) when compared to the dialects used in Damascus and Amman?
justmine4me 3 years ago
Not too different, the words are pretty similar its just some stuff is pronounced a lil differently.
mites7 3 years ago
You know, I heard otherwise.
I heard that Beiruti and Damascene dialects are similar in pronunciation but somewhat different in vocabulary.
Then again, I won't ever know this stuff. =P lol
