  • @goodbyestangeles

    I agree :)

  • "fresco dining....", theyre biting the shit out of the venus project

  • Strange that the only people who will be able to afford this place are most likely people who got rich off of selling Oil (Rich Arabs).

It seems we humans have a great sense of irony.

Also, since its an Arabic Nation, women will still be property and lack rights, being forced to hide under uncomfortable black garments in this "future" place.

Seems more like a nightmare to me.

  • It seems like you need some reading to do and a visit to the place. The real irony in what you wrote is that the group that represented the UAE and the Arabs in the IRENA hosting nominations was led by a woman, sheikha Lubna Al-Qasimi, and the group contained more than 6 great Arab, Muslim ladies who can do the same work a lady in a bikini would accomplish, and better! Please get over the Taliban thoughts you're stuck with, and the typical "rich arabs with oil" silliness, we work hard as you do.

  • Fucking prick Racsist

  • @99meemo99 that is not the point, give the women a chance to choose what they want to do, if they want to wear the garment, let them wear it, if not dont threaten them with stoning or death. the Sahria Law is a premitive set of laws that our barbaric ancestors would have been accustomed to not 21st century people.

  • I went to a seminar / presentation about Masdar city by one of the heads of CH2M Hill, the project management company based in the US. She said most of the residents would be international. That means there will be a rich diversity.

I do believe that the women in UAE choose to wear the head scarf... if not for conservative respect for themselves, then for the fashion statement it is becoming in the immediate region.

  • And how about sitting outside with your girlfriend and our group of friends, girls in tank tops included, having a laugh while enjoying a cold beer and a pork sandwich?

  • @Flluuxx

You're right. UAE was making tons of money off of oil. But they realize that the oil is running out. I admire them for being the first to take a major step in the direction of sustainability.

Also consider this... the rich upper class are the ones who have the largest impact on the environment, with energy consuming house, multiple cars, and all the food they want.

Americans constitute 5% of the world's population but consume 24% of the world's energy.

  • "Solar Power. When will people learn?"

Nah, I kid. I can't WAIT for this!!

  • Is it available to search on Google Maps? =-\

  • the generic city is born. looks more like a aseptic clean hospital than a worth living city.

and the statement of "the first ecological city" is just a curtain to conceal a huge dissipation of capabilities.

do you know, what it needs to build that huge area? an immense need of material. and do you know, where all the water comes from? they are using seawater desalination systems and all the desalinated water goes back to the sea where it disarrange and destroy the ecological balance.

  • tssss, such a pussy, it's like puting ice in the occean. after the water gets used it goes back into the systeem as rain or whatever and mixes again with ur saltier water...........

But besides dissing you, they could throw to the side and make salt flats and produce salt at an higher rate than normally

  • all the teachings and wisdom brought into one community!

im studying renewable energy engineering at UNSW, and trust me, if only the world could embrace ideas for communities such as this, i would be the happiest man alive,

but i have my doubts that this will happen in time, and i also have my doubts about how quickly the oil "kings" can change direction, and give their money away to ensure birth of the new before the old lifestyle dies away.

all we can do is save energy, and vote for change!

  • Hey, Im in college also and Im interested in having a career that involves the environment, but I don't really know what is available. Could you give me a couple of ideas and maybe some colleges that you know of... I live in the US.

  • I don't really know much about any universities in the US, im from Australia, but theres obviously what i do, theres also similar stuff like Photovoltaics, then theres Environmental studies..those are the names of the courses at my uni anyways, theres strants of a science degree that focus on the same, it really depends on whether you want be an engineer, or other, and then just selecting either majors or something like that. Start by choosing a university, then the course, that may help.

  • sounds good, but what happens when a walled city needs to expand? eg. when the residents' families grow after generations?

  • I'd love to live there :D

  • i kinda like this idea, ive alwyas admired arabian city architecture anyways and this is also a perfect environment so why not

  • This city may have an over-planned atmosphere. They need to be careful not to make it feel like a cruise ship where ever people go. The latter could get to people over the long term (unless they have an 'emperial ego' that requires constant nuture - most of us don't).

Glammer and glitz is all very nice, but the novelty can wear off too quickly, possibly leaving you with a long-term design mistake. With urban design, you MUST think long-term - too easy to be seduced by short-term novelties!

  • that´s a great proyect to reduce the pollution in the planet,

  • YOU ARE FREE

TO DO AS YOU ARE TOLD

  • EXACTLY.
