  • another reason to learn french.

  • Sounds awful in French!

  • I would add that techniques to dubb are different depending the country.

For the exemple of French where there is usually 2 different dubbings.

    - Canadian French: translates nearly word by word very close to original.

    - French for the rest of the world: Keeps the meaning with different words because move of the lips is seen as very important for credibility. You can't have a "m" with an open mouth for example.

After you can find that actors are good enough or not ;-)

  • how can u people destroy great TV shows by dubbing them??? :(

  • There are always been pros and cons for dubbing (I usually watch subtitled movies but dubbing doesn't disturb me):

Cons : no more original voice. Sometimes, it's bad, sometimes it's better (think Schwarzenneger :-)

Pros: most of the planet can watch foreign movies except US where distributors say that audience don't want dubbing: just protectionism for their movie industry in my opinion.

And some movies are better dubbed, again ....

  • because of its poetry and its philosophy ive always placed B5 before Battlestar G. BSG is still dope though

  • My French is not as good any more as it used to be a few year back, but I still understood most of the dialogues. Sounds like the voice actors did an awesome job. Much better than the German dubbing in my opinion.

  • Sci fi, and fantasy shows need to learn from B5! Best sci-fi show ever.

  • the sound of shadow ships always sends a shiver down my spine!

  • lol. I know some french and understood parts, but none the less, FUNNY!

To practice my french, sometimes I listen to B-5 in french ot use french subtitles for fun.

  • Funny. I don't remember Justin speaking French.

  • @sunnchilde He's the man inbetween. He's multilingual.

  • I found the video quite fascinating though I don't speak french very well. Just the different accents and all illustrated the characters in new and weird ways. That and some of the voice actors sounded very nice lol.

Also, I have to ask, do you liked dubbed or subtitled versions better?

  • It depends on the show.

For example, I always watched Lost in English so I can't watch it in French.

I started with B5 in French so I'm used to the French version and I know all the best quotes in French.

If I like the B5 dubbing, there are as well terrible issues with the translation that is not very accurate sometime (for instance, "So it begins" is never translated the same way all along the series).

  • Another comment about the French dubbing. Some voices are quite close from the original like Delenn's , some are very far like G'Kar's, but it is a very moving voice when needed.

    For fun:

Delenn's voice (Veronique Augereaux) is married to Bester's voice and they do as well Marge and Homer SImpson.

Garibaldi's voice is Fox Mulder voice

Londo's voice (Gilbert Levy) is the director of the French version of B5, ER and many shows.

Boxleitner's voice in S2 is Steve Buscemi's. It changed with S3

  • Wonderful.

    Go on.

We need B5 more than ever.

    Thanks for posting.

  • Thank you

I agree. There is never enough B5 :-) and I'm afraid there will be not new material before a long time :-(

I did that one because I did not find French videos of B5 and no complete version of the Z'ha'dum ending...
