  • is the gear thingy included in the package or is that yurs?

  • Check out my other vids. The Hemi video is now posted.

    Thanks,Gearstrip76

  • where did you buy it and wich one?

  • @Bullet0626 If you are asking about the Hemi . . . it was made by Testors and I purchased on ebay.

  • Thanks for all your nice comments. I had a lot of fun and adventure putting this together. I knew about the vegetable oil problems so I stick to [no pun intended] Quaker State. No oil pump so I keep runs short. I wanted the generator to set in a more traditional position. "slinky460" Do you use anything for bearing surfaces on your crank journals or just plastic to plastic ? And. . . what would you guess my RPM to be at top speed according to this video ? THANKS!

  • @gearstrip76 Motor oil may cause long term problems too, so be careful here. Styrene reacts to so many different things over time. The newer engines use a stronger plastic, but will degrade quicker. I would just guess about 1200 RPM. Keeping it well oiled, they will run a long time below 1500, but faster than 2000 could cause problems. Years ago, it was found out that this is a Studebaker 289 design. A really hot factory engine in 1959 when the Visible V8 engine was designed.

  • @slinky460 Thanks Slinky. I was concerned that motor oil might be a problem. I'm working on a visible V8 Hemi right now to run approx. 2000 RPM or better. I guess there is no question as to where they got that design.

  • @gearstrip76 The Hemi would be really nice and one of a kind for sure, The Studebaker 289 was first designed a smaller CID in about 1949. It was way over built and was as heavy as a big block Chevy. Lots of metal. It powered the famous Studebaker Hawk, which at the time was a factory hot rod. Later it was even supercharged, but the weight of the engine was like a boat anchor in relation to the HP. It never caught on and Studebaker was gone. But lives on with the visible V8.

  • @gearstrip76 I hope to see your Hemi V8. These are kind of rare and I was told not made anymore. If you do make one, I would use Labelle plastic safe oil or similar so as to not trash your rare engine. I had two electric starter motors for the early Visible V8 that I restored and put away in storage, but used Soybean oil for lubrication. Now they are both gummed up and I tried to clean them up the best I could, but they are already breaking and spliting in places. I don't think they will survive

  • nice gearstrip i also have a visible v8 that can go 5000rpm. I really like the tripower setup, it was fabricated nicely. Also Ive worked on a lot of engines and the visible v8 resembles an oldmobile engine more than anythingeles.

  • One other thing. Do NOT use vegetable oil even thought the instructions tell you to do so. 1996 and up kits. You will trash your little Styrene engine.

I would use Labelle plastic safe oil or similar. Revell knows about the problem, but won't admit to it. You can wash your engine out early with soap and water to save it from a meltdown. It usually takes about two to three months of exposure before damage.

  • @slinky460 Also see my "part #1 " of this engine. Poor video quality but just as fun. Thanks,Gearstrip76

  • Also I like the offset generator bracket set up. I have been telling people that you don't have to go 7000 RPM like I did to have a nice little engine. As your model has shown, these engines work ok at the lower speeds too and look just as nice.

    Again, good job.

  • Wow, really nice job. I like the three two's setup. Well done.

  • @slinky460 Your V8 is truely AWESOME !

  • @gearstrip76 Thanks, but I don't have tri power. Also someone I know, was doing burnouts with his visible chassis until it blew up the transmission. These are going for about $800- $1000 each on ebay. Even blown up, he sold it on ebay for $140. The visible chassis and the Visible V8 fit together. If you see one grab it. I seen one at a yard sale for $5 10 years a go. Did not think to get it. Oh well.

  • @slinky460 I've been keeping my eye open for a Revell chassis. They didn't produce or sell many chassis kits. I would love to have one. Just waiting for a reasonble price. The only one I've ever seen in this area . . . the asking price $1200. It was complete in the original box.
