If you open a program such as IMVU or Firefox that's already installed in your pc before getting Sandboxie and you open it the program stays in your pc?
Great review. Also a great program. The only question is,how does the average user know the good items from the bad ones?Is there a way to know?Or a way to tell which items are suspect or malware when downloading.
Very Good Video. I installed the program and it works really well. Does not slow the internet. It uses a trivial amount of resources especially when compared to Anti Virus Programs. I had MSE previously and it used 100MB of ram plus required a daily update. I never make comments on websites unless I truly like something, so Sandboxie is the real deal. Very simple to set up. Another benefit is all history is deleted so Programs like CCleaner dont have to be used.
is there any benefit in running something like Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware program in sandboxie? Surely that kind of program isnt going to download viruses onto your harddrive? And also if you did open it with sandboxie and you did a scan, which detected malware, if you try to remove the malware, as you are using sandboxie, wouldnt the malware still not be removed? Im kind of confused there..
@EagleDestiny no, there's no reason to run an anti-mal/virus program inside the sandbox.
If you are surfing the interweb and you pick up a drive by virus/malware you will either know it right away or it might be a file that is set to auto-run when you boot up the computer. But since you are running it in a sandbox, it will never actually be able to highjack your start up, because you delete the contents of the sandbox, thereby deleting any hidden malware.
@EagleDestiny when I dl a torrent, I run it sandboxed to see if it is hiding a virus.
The other day, a WMV file asked me to download the correct codec in order to play the file -wmv?!- which obviously I had. At this point I was already infected (which is no big deal) I just opened my sandbox control, and deleted the contents and I was clean.
The malware never made it to my real hard drive.
I never open my browser or read e-mail or run unsigned programs un-sandboxed.
@zzzlt Do you understand how clocks work? You can't slow down your wrist watch to make it to work on time. YOUR COMPUTER IS NOT A TIME MACHINE! Don't be retarded.
Also from there site & quite worrying , & NOT the 100% "safe surfing claimed in the video"...... "It should be noted that, from time to time, people are able to find some vulnerability in Sandboxie, an open hole through which malicious software can still infiltrate the system. This happens every few months,"... so please remember this when useing the software , I myself on my First test of the software got a worm on my PC from a file I downloaded from within the Boxed web browser..
from the Sandboxie site "The 64-bit edition of Sandboxie is somewhat "DISADVANTAGED IN TERMS OF SECURITY" compared to the 32-bit edition of Sandboxie. The disadvantage is a result of a component present in all versions of 64-bit Windows called Kernel Patch Protection, (capslock added by me for easy reference)somewhat a shame if your running a 64bit pc sandboxie installs automatically & configure your AV at set up it can have access to the stuff in the box even though the AV is outside the "Box"
@paulspydar - When the video was made there was no 64bit support and now that there is the whole setup has changed and something that needs to be covered again. As with any program, it is down to the end user to be cautious when downloading and recovering. I download all kinds of malware, rootkist, password stealers, backdoor bots etc and have had nothing escape from the sandbox to date :-)
I have sandboxie installed on my windows 7 and I can't install the flash plug ins. It says 'error' I can only install them without running firefox un-sandboxed. I messed with it and then I was able to install the plug ins while using sandboxie but now I get no sound on youtube videos when I run it sandboxed. If I unsandbox it then yes I can hear and see everything. Any help?
@LSDodgers - Uninstall Sandboxie, clean all temp Files, reboot, reinstall Sandboxie. Firefox plugins are better installed outside of the sandbox then restart Firefox sandboxed :-)
@secuu321 - It is great and highly recommended for keeping the bad stuff safely out of the way and recovering only the good stuff....it's one program I wouldn't be without :-)
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, enjoy the holidays :-)
Hi cotojo1253 I upgraded to the newer sandboxie and now it isnt working right do you think I should uninstall it and install it again to see if that works? THANK YOU
NuubLolXD - you can use any AV alongside sandboxie, it's preferable to do that so that you do get warnings of malware. Delete the contents and it never existed. Use CleanMem - it's free - which will boost your RAM every 30 minutes and reduce any lag :-)
hi coto I downloaded a zip file to my desktop and it is in the sandbox but I can unzip it in the sandbox so how can I scan it inside the sandbox if it was on my desktop I could right click and go to scan with mbam?
bailout15 - If you have recovered the zip file to your desktop you can unzip it to your desktop, then run it sandboxed. Many zip files won't open within a sandbox environment, but its always worth trying that first. In either case, right click and scan with MBAM or go to virustotal (dot) com and upload the zip file and it will be analyzed :-)
I have sandboxie thier is something I dont understand if you use malwarebytes in the sand box and scan how does it have access to the files on the computer I thought sandbox doesnt allow programs access?
bailout15 - because mbam is not installed in the sandbox it will still access the local drive. If you scan with mbam before deleting the sandbox then scan after deleting the sandbox you will see different readings :-)
EthanDroid - it's 100% safe, it's creates a virtual area on your machine and NO it has no malware or viruses with it. It's also widely used by those who deal with malware for test purposes :-)
Hey Cotojo, I would just like to comment that using Sandboxie and System Restore is a security flaw. System Restore WILL restore the emptied contents of the Sandbox and store it as a restore point. Please watch my video on how to fix this issue. We certainly do not want to restore malware. =D
Search my username and watch "Sandboxie And System Restore = Disaster!". YouTube does not allow me to post urls, sorry... =(
4DarkAces - If Restore Points become infected it's easier to scan with Norman Malware Cleaner which will clean all infected RP's. I agree that no one wants to restore malware and Eraser is a superb utility :-)
So I can install a programm like Malwarebytes the sanbox. But I can't recover it from there once I install it in SB? Do I then just need to delete my sandbox and install the normally ?
eezdva - If you install a program within the sandbox it would normally be for testing purposes. It would be better to install malwarebytes normally and surf within a sandbox recovering only what you need to. MBAM is a great on-demand scanner which, if downloading malware in a sandbox it will pick it up, delete the contents of the sandbox and scan and it will find nothing :-)
