  • Terrible quality, but honestly this song is so goddamn amazing I dont even care

  • ill tell you what, i love em, i drove all the way to atlanta to see them

they played a half of a set, 8 songs, didnt say a word to the audience. Left, didnt play an encore

they lost alot of fans that day

  • What a great band

  • Damn, i wish they would come to Virginia for once, I would do anything to go to a show.

  • Awesome tune. Modest Mouse hasn't put out a song I don't like.

And I live about a mile away from where they all grew up. Which is a plus.

  • Is he well-known in his the town he grew up? Just curious.

  • Depends on who you ask. Most of the people who have moved here for Microsoft or Starbucks or whatever don't, because, honestly, they tend to fit the white-man stereotype. All they listen to tends to be pop and rap, even the older generations. The families that have been here longest do, though.

  • Ic ic...i know what you mean...that's pretty cool though. they seem like an interesting, cool group.

  • They are. I've been a fan for years, and they just keep getting better. They've had more influence than people would think, too - a lot of groups in the Seattle area have a similar indie rock feel. Some are more like parodies of MM than fans, but there's a lot of good music that these guys have influenced. If you like them, look up Slowly We Survive, Seahouse, Zephyrs, the Lonely Forest, and the Whore Moans.

  • which part of Corvalis or Tacoma are you all from? Has go be NW! Cant be CA and DEFINITELY not back east!

  • Actually, I live in the Eastside. They all grew up in Issaquah, WA, which is a mile from Sammamish

  • If Modest Mouse ever came out with a home video of their concerts and behind the scenes footage, Id buy it.

  • @deer22 they do have a movie, its called untitled, a modest mouse documentary

  • @deer22 if modest mouse released a home video of their concerts and behind the scenes stuff i'd buy it if the number on the price tag was the same as the number on my bank balance.

  • I have been obsessed with this song for about 2 years now. The only thing that has come close to pushing it off it's pedestal is The Whale Song

  • <3 spitting rat

  • oh man... the memories. I was there.

  • I want some professionally filmed live Modest Mouse videos with soundboard audio :(

Until then we only really have stuff like this for these songs. Thanks for uploading.

  • i'm currently obsessed with this song, its one of my favorites by MM

  • It's one of my favorites too....but the best part is when its just instrumental after like 3-4 stanzas

  • @okhombreftw cheer up baby

  • I was obsessed with this song for about 3 months.

  • That kicked ass.

    Sweet combination

  • holy shit they sped it up

  • I had a chance to go see Modest Mouse a couple of days ago but by the time I realized they were in town, tickets were sold out :(

  • any modest fans know the reason of the second mike ? i know it makes his voice sound different but does anyone know a purpose if there is one ?

  • yeah the second mic is to make his voice sound different lol

the whole purpose. it just has no bass and high on the mids and treble

he uses it in some recordings and uses it for the live shows too

  • like toymachine said it has no bass or highs but besides that theres really no purpose besides the fact that it just adds to the coolness of modest mouse. he's been using it since some of their earliest releases

  • The mic is probably a green bullet which does indeed make vocals sound what I consider a tad more intresting when you play epic sets like modest mouse does. I use one in my band and a few other bands use it too. A band by the name of Woods uses it for every song.

  • playin the intro (da dum da dum da dum....) on guitar is quite a workout for the thumb of your fretting hand

  • yea i kno

  • Dued it is

  • At last last MM show I went to they did the same thing, combining Spitting Venom and I Came as a Rat for the last song of the encore. FUCKING EPIC. I'm so glad someone recorded them doing this, eulogyoflife is made of win

  • they did it tonight at orlando too, amazing.

  • same in st. louis, I was mind-fucked by MM

  • yeah the trumpets are amazing

  • I got goosebumps at 4:00. So epic.

  • The final half is the greatest.

  • The final half is my favourite from the entire album. : )

  • thanks for posting . youre lucky enough to see that live x

  • he did that at the modest mouse song in spokane, which was amazing. i came as a rat is such an underrated song.

  • Ahhh, I was at this show..Amazing!!!!

  • This blew my mind. x.x

God I wish they played this when I saw them. Dx But they ran out of time.

I got their setlist from a security guard after the show so I knew they were planning on playing it. =]

  • Thanks heaps for putting this up. I saw them live last month and they played I came as Rat at the middle of spitting venom which was amazing

AND just had to see it again!!!!

  • I effing love it.

  • Modest Mouse, please come to Sweden! Awesome band..

  • marqelton; Skulle inte dom komma till hultsfred?

    älska Modest Mouse!<3

  • anyone have any idea what this song means? Granted, it may mean different things to different people, but what's the general consensus?

  • AMAZING live!!! perfect song to close a concert to

  • I would kill a man to see them live but they wont come anywhere near kentucky GRRRRRRRR I love how he ends with "I came as a rat " That was orgasmic.

  • Exactly. Except I'm waiting to see them in Vegas.

  • i am waiting to see them in rochester NY on june 16

  • As my friend likes to say, that was wigidywigidywigidywack

  • Whoa.. I didn't expect him to end it with "I came as a rat".. That.. was.. AWESOME..

  • I think it has the same chord progression as I Came as a Rat.

  • I was there too! To the left of the stage. Such a great show!

  • i saw them at red rocks aug 1st

    amazing

i want to see them again in june

one of the best concerts ever

  • That bit when the lights go up...

    LOVE IT!

  • Wicked, Awesome...but I'm more used to hearing it at the record pace, still awesome

  • Such a great show, I was there that night.

    Thanks

  • i don't think words can describe how i felt when i heard this live. at the part when both guitars are playing and isaac is shouting i just want to run and go punch something or slay a dragon...

  • this is the music i listen to when i slay dragons

i only wish every could listen to modest mouse and slay dragons what a great world it would be

  • this is the music i listen to when i slay dragons

i only wish every could listen to modest mouse and slay dragons what a great world it would be

  • GAWD I LOVE THIS SONG!!!!

  • Let it all drop

    Let it all drop

Oh let it all fall off!!!!!!

    modest mouse rules!!!!!!!

  • i strongly believe that anyone who has listened to the moon and antarctica, this is a long drive, the lonesome crowded west or even good news will agree that johnny marr was not a good addition because of his pop backround.

  • yeah i kindof agree. i think they should go to a 4 man band again. issac with a guitarist drummer and bassist. that is just me though.MCR sucks

  • while i loved all those albums, i still think that marr was a good addition, sure the music isnt the same as it was, but it's still damn good music. i think marr just adds a new element to a band that was already pretty amazing.

  • i totally agree. Their early albums, even the old high school demos, have a raw edge about them. The new album tries to be some sort of strange concept album that didnt grab me the same way moon and antartica did. I wish they were the way they used to be, before they got popular.

  • I'm a much bigger fan of old MM. However, Johnny Marr isn't soley what has made the band worse. Isaac is older and doesn't do the drugs he used to. I wouldn't expect the same passion innovation from him now as when he was 20 and as high as a kite.

BTW Johnny Marr doesn't have a pop ground. The Smiths are the archetype of indie.

  • As long as Isaac Brock is fronting Modest Mouse I don't care who they add. And that's very true about Johnny Marr. The Smiths were not a 'pop' band. Modest Mouse is just expanding their musical ability. They're only getting better.

  • if you listen to old mm and the new mm w/ johnny he added a certain structure to the songs

-like in night on the sun that song could begin anywhere in it and last a year long

the new mm has a certain set of guide-lines now it follow a

    intro-chorus-climax-anitclimax-chorus- end

if you listen closely you can definately tell

  • to put in a way that me and my friend also realized, their newer stuff has gotten more "organized". he hates it, but i like both new and old modest mouse, so its all good in the hood

  • Well said, and so true. Although, Good News did have a real structured song base as well w/o Johnny. I don't know if this new derection that they're taking is a good thing, especially with a band who is so respected for their freekydeeky old style. Regardless, you cannot deny new the songs like carbons aniversary. KILL THE EXPECTED!

  • my fav song by them

  • ive seen this live, twice. its unbelievable.

  • one of my faveriout modest mouse songs

  • Two amazing songs combined...Sweet! I wish they did this for us at Eagles, but they didn't play Spitting Venom. *Tear* They played it at Lollapalooza however.

  • haha bitches i saw it live encore with the extended jam into i came as a rat

  • my favoriiiteeeee song from their new album.

  • Wow! I'm surprised at how good the quality is for this video. Thnx for filming my fav Modest Mouse song. I wait till i see them in a month!

  • "you were talking soda pop, you talk it quite a lot, the opinions that i do not give, and the opinions i aint got". that line is from "white lies yellow teath"! kinda rare but awesome. im partial to old modest mouse but this is my fave new one

  • Ring around the rosy...

  • i love this song

  • i appreciate u filming this, but isn't it kinda boring at a modest mouse concert to film instead of dance and enjoy the music?

  • i love at 4:00 when the trumpet starts, the best, i liked this video alot

  • This is probably my favorite Modest Mouse video. Thanks for posting it!

  • This song was so good live. I just saw them at the Gorge and this was one of my favorites along with doin the cockroach. I love how issac started singing i came as a rat.

  • the ending they did something different at like 7:30 or something, what was it?

  • threw in an "i came as a rat" teaser

  • The instrumental part of this song is genius. With all of the Dynamics, it make you pumped.

  • I hope they make a video for this.

  • the best spitting venom was played at the Eletric Factory on 5/3/07

the version i have is 15 mintues long

  • yea i was at that show i was a little dissapointed with the set list but that song was awesome. they gotta bring back some more lonesome crowded west and long drive songs

  • i was at that show.. it was greatt.. where did you find the version you have?

  • go to myspace and search "Isaac Brock Live"

he was doing a countdown of the best live modest mouse songs and that one was number 13 or 14 i think

i can upload you the version if you want

  • I recorded it?

  • i like all there old stuff more even though this is good

  • 100% agree with that.

listen to the Spitting Venom/I Came As A Rat mix.

it is a veryyyy good blend of new and old stuff.

  • this album is definatly the best

  • all their albums are diffrent and suites to different people and feelings, but i still disagree with this being their best.

  • this version is faster than the album version

sounds kinda like a good rap song, o ris that just me...

  • Aaaaand who's cell phone was this recorded on?

  • I saw MM four times and I recently saw them in Philly and it was one of the best shows so far. Their new material is great as always. My friend thought they wouldn't be good because he's only seen them on TV.

  • you saw them recently in Philly? arent they playing there the 19th?

  • yeah they're pjaying here again. The show I was at was earlier this summer at the Electric Factory

  • I saw them 2 years ago at the Electric Factory. It was a pretty good show.

  • how bout you hold your fucking camera still

  • gives me chills...

  • encore was awesome btw

  • fuckin EPIC song

MM is the shit. well done getting most the song

  • iw as there the trumpet was the BEST part

  • this song is so great i like it

  • They're amazing live...

  • can someone plz upload the video ?

  • wow you got most of this song!! thanks!

  • i was there!! :)

  • thanks man...i was at this show....it was crazy and the trumpet was very uplifting

  • I find the trumpet a bit haunting. It's wonderful though

  • thank you!
